On our way back from a road trip on highway 5 we decided to stop & get some food & this hidden gem popped up! I reviewed the pictures & I was sold. Upon arrival this place was empty, but it was just when it had opened. Eventually after we order it started to pick up but still it was very peaceful! Very good costumer service! We order a crispy chicken sand-which, a bacon cheese burger & Philly cheese steak loaded fries with a strawberry hibiscus lemonade! The crispy chicken sand which was perfectly made! The loaded fries were amazing ! & the lemonade was perfect balance not to sour not too sweet! I 100% recommend stopping here on your road trip if you are ever on highway 5! This time around I had a better experience. It's a Monday and I came right after school. It's been a few years since I walked into this local establishment & I decided to give them another chance. Maybe watching few seasons of The Bear made me more empathic to a small business. I use to work in a small cafe back in the day so working in food service can be trying sometimes. I noticed they have added some menu items and Friday/Saturday dining options as well. Today they had a Monday feature of Tri-Tip Sandwich with either fries or fresh fruit. A free drink was included and I chose lemonade with cucumber and fresh mint. OMG that was delicious. They also had several flavors, strawberry-Hibiscus, strawberry, raspberry, and the cucumber mint lemonade. I chose to dine in and I received my food hot. The fries were perfect. Crispy and not greasy. I chose a hot chipotle ranch & ketchup. Yah, being a vegetarian is hard. I wasn't vegetarian today. I tore up that sandwich and left no crumbs ok maybe the butt end of the roll but that's for Buddha. While waiting I saw the advertisement for Friday night dinners & Saturday Brunch with Mimosas & Micheladas. It's just two staff so go easy on them. They off a 3% discount if you pay in cash. My dad and I had a short trip to Coalinga and asked a local where to eat. She enthusiastically recommended the salty pickle. We got parking directly in front of the cafe and went inside. We were greeted immediately and were able to look at the menu board and make our choices. I ordered the teriyaki burger and the waffle style sweet potato fries with chipotle ranch. I also got the raspberry lemonade. The food came quickly and was presented on aluminum trays which really added to the ambience. The fries were amazing. They had a thin, crisp coating and were a perfect blend of crunchy and soft. The chipotle ranch was spicy with a delicious smoky aftertaste. The burger was absolute perfection. Cooked well, juicy and flavorful. There was the sweet from the teriyaki sauce and pineapple, savory from the burger and onion and I asked for a substitution and they readily obliged. The only thing I wasn't really fond of was the raspberry lemonade. It wasn't really tart or sweet and tasted more like a fruit tea. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the sweet and sour of a true lemonade. Overall I really enjoyed my visit. The food was so good, and I enjoyed just sitting down and chatting with my dad after a long drive! Stopped in here for a quick lunch en route to Pinnacles. My visit falls into the category of what the heck?! Thoughts: 1. It is not charming. Honestly that was my biggest disappointment. It's a bare large room with a few tables. 2. The menu is very limited: no salads except premade in a plastic container. 3. The hamburger was fine. Not notable but ok. The fries were the extruded kind: they should be banned . 4. They charged for an extra slice of pickle. At a place called the Salty Pickle. You order at a counter. If you have the time, come here instead of the typical stops like harris ranch or bravo farms. A slow paced chill restaurant in a slow paced little town, a little detour but great food! You'll be met by friendly staff and we saw quite a few locals eat here too. Chicken panini was ok, old boy Bleu burger flavor is great but definitely on the heavier side taste-wise. Mint cucumber lemonade was very concentrated in flavor and refreshing in hot weather. Best was the smoked beef dip, super smokey and had A LOT of meat. Au jus wasn't too salty either. On the side you're given the option of fries or fruit. Yes yes fruit is healthier but I'm willing to normally avoid fries to indulge in theirs! Lightly battered and crispy, not crunchy/tough coating like fast food and even some restaurants. And of course the pickle! Quiet, out-of-the-way place in a quiet out-of-the-way town, but well worth the visit. We stopped for lunch on our road trip and ordered the Beef Dip sandwiches. Fries were well-seasoned, sandwich rolls were soft, and the beef wasn't just enough to be hearty but not heavy. And despite the name of the restaurant, nothing was overly salty -- not even the pickle. The store-bought tortillas not to my taste, and it was a large portion we was filling hot sauce for me when I asked for salsa, and they grilled some jalapeños when I asked if they had pickled jalapeños. It comes with a side of fries. I ate in the interior has about seven or eight tables. Lots of room. There were two or three other families there having their lunch. The service was great. Google map recommended this place on a road trip when we passed through and needed to stop. The interior is vibrant and welcoming, and staff were friendly. We ordered a strawberry lemonade, teriyaki burger and chicken strips. The lemonade was as very watered down and tasted like flavored water. The chicken strips were the frozen kind, which isn't surprising for a kids meal. The teriyaki burger was good, and hit the spot for what I expected. The fries are some of the best I have ever had. My almost 9 month old even ate off my plate and couldn't get enough. We stayed a night in Coalinga and decided to try an early dinner at the Salty Pickle (they close at 5:30). It was clean, cute, with really friendly service and good food. I've been eating here for years. Everything is 5 stars. Quality is like Harris Ranch but not the cost. These guys can cook! It's upscale food (hamburgers are huge & taste like steak burgers) but their restaurant is just a little space. I wish they would expand to a larger spot & have extended hours for Breakfast. Lunch. Easily the best dining option in Coalinga and it's not even close. I'm only in town about every 6 months and my last visit saw that they now have wings. Being a wing snob, I just had to try them. Came across this place on our way home to Sacramento from Disneyland. The menu doesn't seem like much, but this little joint is WORTH A STOP IN! The staff is so sweet and the food is amazing.
