My favorite burrito meat is carnitas, and I like it prepared simply, which can be hard to find, but El Michoacano does it right. This is a tiny square cinder block restaurant and has ten booths lining three of it's walls with high backs, which I usually like to sit in but these are not comfortable, because the seats have worn out after time. There are four or five tables in the middle of the dining room and each table is adorned with various hot sauces, salt, pepper, ketchup, napkins, and sugar. We were kindly greeted quickly by our server who brought us a basket of chips, which are seemingly homemade, but very dry for what we are used to from authentic Mexican restaurants. They do taste good though and she also brought their amazingly spicy salsa, definitely not for the weak at heart or tongue. They do not have soft drinks on tap which means you have to buy the cans or bottles individually which can really run up your tab. We have not seen our server since she dropped off our drinks and chips and it would be nice to see her again soon because this also has my mouth on fire and I would love a glass of water right now. We were served 34 minutes later which is quite a long wait for a Mexican food restaurant. Richard ordered a fried chicken burrito thinking that it would come out as chicken strips but it actually came out as bone-in fried chicken with french fries and refried beans and tortillas so he had to rip the chicken off the bone to make his burritos tacos. He described his food as wholly acceptable. I ordered a vegan burrito with all the vegetables that they have to offer, black beans which they don't have so I had to have the whole pinto beans and rice that I made sure they didn't use chicken stock. She brought it out dry, which may be my mistake I may have forgotten to say a wet burrito. It was actually one of the best vegan burritos I've ever had. The bomber now that it's been over an hour since we've been here and we have been finished with our food for the last 18 minutes. We are just sitting here waiting for the check. Are beverages or empty our server is taking care of a multitude of other customers. I certainly do not blame her this is clearly a management issue they have more customers than they are willing to staff for. I don't want to have to ask for the check because I'm doing a review on this place and I want it to be 100% honest. I couldn't take it anymore I called for the check I certainly don't blame her as she is swamped but I do blame the owners or managers for horribly understaffing this restaurant. So why three stars you might ask, I have to say that the food is really good and that's about the only saving grace of this establishment the service is horrible and not to the fault of the server, the wait time is horrible and not to the discredit of the server nor the cook this is all bad management. Will I be back? probably if I have the time and want some good food and don't mind wasting some time. read more

Wanted to like this place but it was only above average. Good quality ingredients and preparation, but food lacked the deep flavors I was expecting. Technically a 3 star review, but I would give an extra half star (if I could) for super kind staff, fair prices, and being something interesting at Coaling Station A (Coalinga). I've noticed a lot of places have "fallen" a star in food quality during Covid so I plan to stop here again post-Covid (assuming that's even a thing). read more

Safe atmosphere. Delicious warm food. Cold micheladas. Spicy salsa. Tasty chips. What can you say? This place hits the spot. Theyre authentic delicious food is made to perfection which will have you eating sauces off the plate. I recommended the alambres; full platter mixed with everything your heart desires from the restuarant. The micheladas: amazing. Those drinks will have you coming back for me after a hard day at work. I ate here for lunch today since I was in Coalinga for work. I thought the food was very good, the rice and beans were very tasty, the enchilada sauce was very flavorful with a little bit of tang. The salsa was hotter than most places I've been but I didn't find it overbearing by any stretch. I ate for $11 so it's very reasonably priced. This place is ok. We (my husband & I) walked in and chose our table which was dirty & we wiped it down ourselves. The waitress walked up & sat the chips & salsa on the table (while we were wiping it off lol) she didn't even acknowledge it or apologize. There were only 2 servers and both were young and one was new. The chips were ok, salsa is good and reallly spicy, almost too spicy but it's still good. So as soon as she sat our menus down she asked us what we wanted to drink, we said we needed a few minutes. She came back what seemed like 2 minutes... and asked if we were ready to order. We said we needed a few more minutes like 3 separate times. Anyway, i originally wanted a sope but they were all out. So I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas w/ rice & beans and also had 2 carne asada tacos on the side. My husband ordered the carne asada & shrimp fajitas. Our food was pretty good. My enchiladas could have had more sauce, but overall both of our meals were satisfying. When we came into the restaurant there was only one other table of 2. By the time we were done eating there were like a total of maybe 5 tables. Our server was ghost! Never came back for us lol. My husband had to go up to the front to ask for more flour tortillas (comes with 2) and he paid up there as well since he knew she would take forever to come back. The table behind us also had to walk up and pay. We will be back, I want to try other menu items and they have good beans & rice. I've tried a couple of the other Mexican joints in Coalinga but so far, we end up coming back to this one. The young woman at the front (Sarai, I believe) is always so pleasant and sweet when we order. We've only done takeout but it's always been delicious, hot and fresh. My go-to dish is usually quesadillas de camarones and this place (so far) does my favorite. My other half and dining companion always orders flour cheese enchiladas (even with a giant Supreme burrito). I always have to ask him to share because they are so good! Not a fan of the chicken flour enchilada, but the cheese is worth it. This will definitely be one of our go-tos in Coalinga. read more

There is no wifi here and I specifically came here because yelp said it had wifi. I improvised for my work and stayed for a plate of floutas. Which were actually taquitos but still pretty tasty and quite fresh. The salsa also had some kick which isn't always the case with table salsa. I had a sopa, enchilada, and tostada. The waitress was super nice and the food was good.

On our way to San Francisco we stopped for a bite instead of fast food drive through. It was definitely worth the detour! My husband and I both had crispy tacos that were yummy, with crunchy shells that were not oily. Chips, salsa and guacamole where good and the staff was very nice. Small minus that they had no agua frescas and were out of al pastor. We would definitely stop in again. read more
