I used to live nearby, back in the early 80's. Not sure I ever dined here though. I learned the resort is a more casual version of the higher end restaurant. I was seated in the bar area (no choice offered), which was odd as this was mid-week and the place was far from crowded. I was attended quickly and placed an order for a Tanqueray martini. It arrived well mixed. I decided on a porterhouse after confirming with my waiter that the filet would not resemble a t-bone, but be a full filet as a porterhouse should. The steak was cooked properly, salad and sides fresh and delicious. I took off a star because my waiter gave up on me. He had checked in several times (I eat really slow these days and it was a lot of food) and the last time offered to bring me a box. I was ready to order dessert, but after a full ten minutes of an invisible waiter, I went to the hostess and offered to pay. She said she would send my waiter to my table. So, back to my table I went and waited some more. By the time he arrived, I was very unhappy. I had planned on coffee and dessert. But ended up going to the gas station next door and picking up some canned espresso and cream. Walking to my car, was an olfactory assault. If you've ever driven past Harris Ranch and the miles of cows standing under the shade structures in their own feces, you have a mild sense of what I experienced. But this was so much worse. My eyes began to water as I imagined I was walking through the feed lots. The stench of urine and cow crap was obnoxious. Some way to end an otherwise good meal. Between the service and the outdoor aroma, I doubt I'll return. read more

We stopped in this hotel for the night on our way moving from San Diego to Sacramento to cut up the drive. We had read that they accommodated a lot of RVs and people with U-Haul's, etc., so felt safe staying there for the night. Checked in about 9 PM. Everybody was super helpful. We have our cats with us so we were a little stressed out about how it was going to be, but they made sure that we were comfortable and we were in a really nice, large and clean room. I did think that the property is a little bit dated. They've done a good job with upkeep. The only issue I really had was that when I got out of my car there was a very strong animal smell. I asked at the front desk with that smell was, and they said that it was fertilizer that they applied to the fields that night. It was intense. We got up and we're back on the road by 5 AM. Unfortunately we did not get to try the restaurant although I heard that their steakhouse is excellent. Also, the pool looked really beautiful and clean. read more

Made a pit stop here at Harris Ranch Resort because we have always been curious about this place and wanted to eat some steaks from the source. Since it's right next to Interstate 5, it is very convenient for t9ad trips doen California. ​When I initially looked up the restaurant, I was a bit confused because online it seems that they have 4 different restaurants, and I wasn't sure where they are all located. But we just went and followed the signs that said "Restaurant." When we walked in the main entrance, the first thing we saw was the Country Store. To the right is the Horseshoe Lounge, the Prime Steakhouse in the middle, and Ranch Kitchen is towards the end. I think they also have a barbecue restaurant, but in a separate building. This place is massive. ​We decided to dine at Ranch Kitchen, where there was a huge group of people sitting right outside. I originally thought they were waiting for a table, but they were all just there for the restroom since this seems to be the place to be for pit stops down I-5. It was around 6 PM on Monday, and we got seated pretty quickly. ​We ordered the 14 oz. Choice Ribeye (medium rare) and the Country Fried Steak. Both included either baked potatoes or mashed potatoes (we opted for baked) and broccoli and carrots. The ribeye also included either a soup or salad, but given the current scare with the lettuce parasite, I opted for the clam chowder. ​They start you out with hot bread rolls and some salted whipped butter. The ribeye was very tender and delicious. It was well-seasoned and does not need steak sauce or anything. The country fried steak was quite tasty and comes with a massive amount of gravy, the way I like it. ​Overall, this was a great stop with great food. The service was amazing and the waiter was very attentive. This will definitely be a regular pit stop of ours. read more

It's been a few years since we were last here for a meal. Of course going heading north or south on the 5, it's kind of a stop for everyone. One of those places that's its a must to try out and if you're craving a steak. They have both the hotel area as well as the restaurant. Plus most people would see this place if there's charging their car as the charging station is literally right in-front of the entrance. We stopped off hoping to grab a meal and to watch the Mexico and England game that was going on. Well that was a dud as the bar dining area with televisions that had the game on was 21 and older. We had some minors with us and our pup so that didn't work. I did speak to the hostess that was at the counter and asked if they had a television in the main dining area. They said there's a room that they could turn the tv on but once we got to that hostess table and asked them about it, they mentioned that there was no television. The whole reason was to have a meal and watch the game. We ended up not staying as it wasn't worth it. The last time we did enjoy our meal in the bar area. This time we were hoping to have another meal but it just wasn't available with our situation. The place does have a nice country store with amazing fun and nice stuffs as well as a nice butcher. You don't get those at places much these days. This visit wasn't what we were hoping for but I guess it wasn't meant to be. It is off the freeway a little ways but most people will see it when they stop for gas or charging station. Theres plenty of parking along the front. Also hotel/resort is right next door. *This is a review for the resort itself, not the restaurant, as we did not eat there but opted for the Harris Rabch BBQ House instead (delicious). My husband and I were roadtripping from San Diego to camp outside of Sacramento and got a flat tire near the resort. It was 110 degrees out but somehow I was so charmed by this place, I was able to convince him to get us a room for the night. Our room was so quiet, large, clean, and cute. The best was so comfortable, but they could add a pillow for soft pillow sleepers, as both were so overstuffed and big that I gave up and slept on a sweatshirt The property has three hot tubs, a lap pool, three restaurants, multiple gift stores- I mean, all things considered, it was adorable. If I ever find myself trapped in the armpit of California mid July again, I would come back for sure! read more

A must stop anytime I'm on my way home from Southern California. This place is off the I-5. I've been here a few times, always on weekends, but this was the first time I came on a weekday. It's also the first time I did not have to wait for a table to be available! I believe my waitresses name was Kristina who was great. Great service! I ordered the 14 oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a Cesar salad to start. The steak was cooked perfectly however the baked potato was a little cold as if it was made before the steak was ready, but this was a first and I came for the steak anyways! The place was pretty quiet and I sat in the bar area, so that was interesting. Overall this place is always a must stop for me and tastes so good! It is always great to stop here on a road trip up - or down - I-5. The Ranch Kitchen restaurant (one of several here, and the casual one) is the focus of this review, although I also grabbed some steaks from the store to take home. I have a couple of go-tos here: the battered green beans with chipotle dipping sauce and the chopped wedge salad (also available in a traditional, not-chopped style). The salad was fresh and with blue cheese - extra on the side. Both are great, and came quickly, with a side of a cheddar cheese roll and lots of whipped butter. The only thing that might be better is the house-made biscuits, served with some of the breakfasts. Both are delicious! My server, Angelina, was great. Finally got to see what all the hype was about. Our car group met some members of a car group from SLO there for lunch on a Saturday. Our tables were ready when we arrived and we were all seated pretty quickly. There were a lot of us, we filled a couple of back rooms. I had the oriental chicken salad, but wish I would have splurged on a steak. I was at Harris Ranch, after all. The food was good. Service was good. Due to it being a Saturday and us having a large group, some tables were done eating before other tables even had their orders taken. The food was a mixed bag. The Caesar salad was just okay -- the chilled plate made it feel like the salad may have been pre-made. The house bread, though, was warm, soft, and delicious. The burger was pretty good overall: the patty came medium rare, leaning toward rare, with a nice char on it. The top bun was solid, but the bottom bun got soggy and wasn't worth the calories, so I left it behind. Service was okay. Food and service at the steakhouse was great . Except at the bar area the hostess was not welcoming at all. We understood it was busy but she just made us feel unwelcome. We waited in the hallway for our reservation with drinks in hand. It was very awkward. We wanted to have a celebration cocktail before dinner and there were many small tables open. We stayed at the hotel and it was nice. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean . Would definitely stay again. But not sure about the service at the bar area. Management needs work on the customer service. If you want to try the restaurant steakhouse you will get a good experience. Just might want to avoid the bar area . read more

We pass through Coalinga about 4 times per year and never pass Harris Ranch by. While we have stayed at the resort and eaten in the restaurant, we mostly stop by on our way through. We love the country store for there curios and munchies. I also usually buy some of that great Harris Ranch beef. They pack it is ice so it easily makes the 10 hour trip home from there, Whether stopping for a quick shopping trip in their country store, some great food in the A+ restaurant, or grabbing a brisket sandwich at the general store next door. Harris Ranch has it all! They also have clean restrooms an charging stations. Break the monotony, Harris Ranch is a must stop on your long road trip down I-5! read more

If you ever need to stop and stretch your legs on that long road trip from the Bay Area to Southern California, make this your stop. Arrive hungry and ready to have the best steak or prime rib cut of your life. The decor is rustic ranch. They have a fine dining restaurant, but sometimes when we go if we are dressed too comfy on the ride, we will eat in the bar. Sometimes my husband prefers this so he can watch a game on their big screens. We always have a great meal, and are never rushed. Staff is very kind and friendly. The ambiance is relaxing and very pleasant. We go once or twice a year. Sometimes more. If we end up there at a busy time of day and need to wait for a table, their gift shop is wonderful. I always love to look around in there and often find unique gifts or decor. read more

We have been to HR RV Park twice now. Once for an overnight and once for a weekend stay. Both visits were great! The cookies at check-in are awesome. The bathrooms are some of the best and cleanest you'll ever see in an RV park and the FHU, level, pull through spaces are wide and long. The WiFi is good enough for streaming. There are 2 dog parks and a set of pickleball courts. Access to the gym is included with your stay. We enjoyed the huge heated pool, the pool bar and two of the restaurants. There is free coffee in the hotel lobby offered to all RV guests every morning and it is very good. They also have tea for the non-coffee drinkers. I would recommend Harris Ranch Resort RV Park to others and we will be coming back, since the entire family loves the pool and the food. read more

Review for the resort and the restaurant incoming! Stayed with the family for a night on our way to Southern California as we were in need of respite after crushing Bay Area traffic. The room was very clean, and solidly appointed for the price (under $200 with AAA discount). In the morning we took a swim in their gorgeous swimming pool. It was an early morning because he had to get back on the road. But, if I were to linger it would be right next to that pool or that awesome horse shoe bar across the lot at the restaurant. Breakfast was awesome. I had the country fried steak and eggs. It was a very tender piece of tenderized steak and the gravy was lights out $29.95. Kids had the "little cowpoke" which was a pancake, bacon slice and an egg for $8.95. The pancake was tasty and the bacon was a large cut (I had to get my Dad tax in). Only downside was the avocado toast (but who would order that at a roadside cow restaurant?) My wife would! HA! It was $18.95 and she felt like she was being punished as it was just a single slice of bread with avocado and two poached eggs. She was really hoping for a larger portion for the price. Overall, it was a really solid 5/5 experience. We left something in the room accidentally and the front desk called us before we even noticed. They said they'd take care of it and we will cruise by on the way home to grab it. Really awesome customer service. For a resort in the middle of nowhere I get no real complaints. I mean it smells like poop outside but there's like a million head of cattle down the road so that makes sense. Also, no foul smells in the hotel or restaurant. We stopped here as a party of 5 to eat a casual lunch. My husband and I have stayed here and also ate here for dinner so we wanted to bring our kids. For the price, the food was just mediocre. My husband ordered the ribeye sandwich with fries. He enjoyed them. However, I ordered a small wedge salad and tri tip sandwich that came with mushrooms and horseradish cream sauce and a side of beans. My salad did not taste or look fresh, but the bleu cheese dressing was good. My daughter loved the beans from my meal. My sandwich was unfortunately not up to par. The sandwich was cold, which was unappetizing for a tri tip sandwich. The bread was soft and would be better served toasted. The horseradish cream sauce was only on one side of the sandwich and there were barely any mushrooms and cold shredded cheese, which I thought was strange. Overall it was not bad but would have been better if it was warm with melted cheese. My kids enjoyed their chicken strips, fries, and tri tip. Next time I think we will just get the tri tip sandwiches next to the gas station and save money. read more

First room I had the shower had no pressure and no hot water - easy, call the front desk and they move me. 2nd room - shower worked great, lay down to sleep and wake up with 2 tiny bed bugs crawling on me.. freak out. Lift the mattress and there is a slightly larger, but dead smashed bed bug and clear sheddings from a few other small ones. Could also see a few very small specks that looked like droppings. Call the front desk - guy comes up and declares them "water cress beetles". And BS me about water beetles...obviously bed bugs, I pointed out the clear signs and he said "nah, if it was bed bugs they would be everywhere". Told the front desk and she was rude and clearly annoyed - says it's water beetles as well.. They are 100% bed bugs and clearly an issue there. read more

Been to the airport a couple of times, today as part of Pilots N Paws. We stayed at the hotel overnight. There's a phone near the transient gate if you want a golf cart ride otherwise it's only a 5 minute walk. There is self serve, but appears have a plan B in case it's out. There's also a Harris Ranch BBQ shop near transient next to the Shell station if you don't want to towards the hotel. The hotel is dog friendly ($50 for one, $10 each additional.) There's room service and the pool is open till 11pm! read more

Yesterday the four of us were returning from Palm Springs on a week long golf getaway. We stopped here for a late lunch. Ordered- * hubby had a Reuben sandwich with regular fries * I had the derby cheeseburger with sweet potato fries * sis & BIL shared a derby cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a bowl of cream of mushroom soup Pros: * burgers cooked to order. We both ordered medium well burgers. Grilled onions * hubby said plenty of corned beef in his sandwich * sis & BIL cheeseburger split by the kitchen and had equal amounts of fries Cons: * $0.50 for grilled onions. Bermuda onions were barely grilled * $5.00 split order charge * my Arnold Palmer was very weak. Hardly tasted any lemonade or iced tea. * switched to a Pepsi. Too much carbonation since fountain drink. * food was lukewarm as it was a very chilly day out and drafty in the restaurant. From the kitchen to our table affected the food temperature. * service was spotty. Hubby had to request coffee refill. **October 2025: Sunday Afternoon Visit** I've done a handful of roadtrips and have always been curious about the steaks at Harris Ranch. This past weekend my friend and I decided to mark it off my bucket list. I saw two restaurants on the resort: one for everyone, and one exclusively for adults. I suspect that they both offer the same things, but for the sake of time we did the for everyone dining option as the adults only had a longer wait. My friend and I were seated immediately, and the interior of the restaurant had a lot of cowboy flair. I ordered a filet mignon medium rare with mashed potatoes and a clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious, though served in a very small cup. The steak itself had a nice char which indicates that it's heated up on a really high temperature. The meat itself was okay, I've had more tender filet mignon, but it was fine. Overall, it's okay. Glad I checked it off my list though! read more

The hostess greeted us warmly. We enjoyed the clean Ranch style decor, fascinating Ranch Antiquities, confortable seating, great menu and fantastic service! We were convinced that our server loved his job, took our orders for four including the kids meal and remembered every detail requested. Hubby and i split a burger meal and they were so accommodating. Gave us everything we wanted and more. The burgers were top grade beef, on fresh hot buns with all the accouterments. And those HorseShoe fries were as good as we've ever had, crispy outside and soft inside, served aplenty in individual baskets. The kids meal was a winner for our particular 12 year old "Really Good TriTip" loaded with fresh vegetables, that we helped to polish off. Portions were overall generous and a great price. Service wise: pretty quick, waiter came around to ask how was food while they attended to several tables Ambiance: the wooden sitting chair way too small and easy to hurt the shoulder of the knee caps!!! Harris Ranch is a favorite. We stop every time we are on a road trip on I5 to eat a meal. Any dish with beef is excellent. A lunch favorite is the steak salad. The Loaded omelet is huge and tasty. The servers are friendly and on point. We stayed at the hotel for the first time and we were impressed. Check-in was smooth with great service. The fresh baked cookies were unexpected and delicious. The rooms are huge compared to the average hotel room. There are two separate sinks with great counter space. The shower is walk-in and no tub. The bathroom floors are marble like tile and the room is wood laminate. The bed is comfortable with both hard and soft pillows. The surprise furniture piece was a soft recliner. There is a lap pool for swimmers and three hot tubs on the property. The room price was the most reasonable of all the hotels on our trip with a much better experience. read more

My two boys and I were staying at the resort. Upon checking in, I was asked if I wanted a room service menu and I said no we'll just go to the restaurant (I didn't know there were two restaurants and wasn't given any information). She said ok. (Without telling me the steakhouse required reservations). At 7:50pm we went to the steakhouse and the hostess was incredibly unwelcoming and arrogant. She told me I needed a reservation. I looked around at the half empty restaurant and she said all of those tables have reservations on them. She also said there weren't any openings until at least 8:45pm or maybe not at all. I walked outside, took out my phone, saw many reservations pop up for that evening and made a reservation for 8:15. When I returned at 8:15am she then told me kids weren't allowed in the front section and that we would have to wait for an upper table to open up. I told her she never mentioned that and she just glared at me. When I sat out front waiting another 15 minutes with my young kids, I counted 7 open tables in the upper part she referred to. At 8:30pm I came back again inquiring about our table. She ended up seating us in the "adults only" area for some reason. It was all incredibly strange, uncomfortable and unprofessional. It was very clear she didn't want us (or maybe the kids??) there. My bill was $150.00 so it's not like we were just getting milk and cookies. The food was just eh. We were very excited to eat there and left feeling really icky. The room was old and dated but the pool was phenomenal! This will be a one and done for me. read more

I only came to Harris Ranch Resort to visit its meat counter which has a great selection of beef. Prices were not too bad, service is great and friendly at their meat/bakery market. Specialty coffee is available there too! From what I can see, they have three places offering hot food, a cafe, a BBQ near their gas station, and a fine dining area. There are motel like rooms if you need a place to stay, but we were only passing through. read more

I drove several hours and was craving a great steak, so I decided to give Harris Steakhouse a try. What a massive disappointment. I ordered their prime ribeye, expecting a high-quality cut with a proper sear. Instead, it looked and tasted like a boiled steak. There was zero crust or flavor, and it wasn't tender at all--it was tough and a chore to eat. For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, serving a prime cut this poorly executed is unacceptable. Outstanding customer service and a true oasis experience. This was my second stay at Harris Ranch Resort, and this visit was even more incredible than the first. From check-in, the customer service stood out immediately--homemade cookies at arrival, staff helping with luggage via cart, and seamless assistance throughout the property. Everything felt effortless and taken care of. The staff consistently went above and beyond. I was offered golf cart transportation to and from the restaurant, and whenever I needed a ride back, it was handled quickly and kindly. That level of attentiveness made the entire stay feel easy and relaxing. The room was immaculate and very comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a Keurig machine, fresh brewed coffee downstairs, and a refrigerator. When I needed a microwave, one was brought up right away without issue. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful--pool, jacuzzi, palm trees, and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere at night under the stars. It genuinely feels like an oasis.
