My wife, daughter, and I decided we wanted some quick Mexican food on our way home the other evening. We popped by Los Lagos to see if they offered good food closer to home than many of the other taquerias in Roseville and Antelope. It was around 7:45 and chairs were already up on tables in half of the dining room. Making it feel less than inviting to dine in. I asked the cashier what time they close, and I was told 9:00. I was wondering whether we should just go, but decided to order anyway. (In retrospect I wish we had left). My wife ordered a wet burrito, it was not good. In fact, it was pretty bad. I took a couple bites to see for myself. 90% of that burrito made its way to the garbage bin. My daughter ordered a regular burrito and it was ok at best. I on the other hand, I ordered a combination plate. The chile relleno was actually pretty good. The tamale and enchilada were both okay; the food was all luke warm to cold. The chile relleno raised my rating from one to two stars. I think it's safe to say we probably won't be back. I think it's safe

A great local family owned and operated restaurant. We have ordered taquitos, burritos and more. Every time we have been here our food has been great. On this visit we ordered the nachos and taco platter. I was surprised at how many street tacos came in the platter. Everything was delicious! Such a great deal on that taco platter. This is our new favorite! They have a chips and salsa bar,

These are my soggy, greasy Birria Tacos with way too many cilantro stems.

My husband pick up an to-go of birria tacos that were $13.99. Horrible tacos, soggy with grease, hardly any meat with a lot of cilantro stems and some of it looked Spoiled. My 3 birria tacos were GROSS tasting! SAVE yourself a big disappointment and Do Not Eat Here. Even the broth served to the side had way too many stems from the cilantro. Big Rip off!

This taqueria was so cute inside. The walls had awesome paintings and the food menu was super extensive! Everyone there was so friendly and it felt like a family environment at work, which was a nice touch. The tacos I ordered were basic, and paired perfectly with the salsas they had at the salsa bar. Tacos are my favorite go to.. I liked that they weren't too greasy, although the salsa was a little watery for my liking they still had a depth of flavor. Making this place a go to. The Quesabirria tacos looked delicious, I can't wait to try them next time!

My burrito with everything.... But anything. lol not even salsa.

Short story I was debating carolinas or this place and I picked this place. I ordered a cabeza burrito with everything and lettuce. Also flautas. When I got home the flautas looks like burnt taquitos and my burrito had nothing instead of everything.WTF... the wife didn't want to eat here flauta plate and I got stuck with a beans and rice burrito. I don't know what to say.... Should of just stayed home.

"Rolled Tacos"... very lame.

Service and staff - great! Food... really disappointed. Ordered "rolled tacos" and this is what I got (see pic). I know it's not a 5-star restaurant but dang... really overpriced for what it is. Generic Mexican places like Carolinas and Adalbertos is MUCH better. Don't waste your time and just go to the Adalbertos

It's "noonish" on Saturday, June 05, 2010, and I've arrived at Taqueria Los Lagos to enjoy lunch.

Taqueria Los Lagos is a smaller, family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant, located in Antelope, CA in a suburban shopping center, dominated by west coast giant Winco Foods. The restaurant is staffed by mostly family members, serves delicious Mexican cuisine, and is open every day of the week. A true bonus is on weekends, the restaurant opens early and serves menudo, along with birria. Muy sabroso! As you enter the restaurant, you'll be treated to the main dining room, with booths against the wall and tables next to a low partition that separates the dining from the kitchen/order area, and a couple of tables that seem mostly to be used for customers waiting for their "to go" orders to be ready. The floor is tiled, and the one of the walls is painted a rich vermilion red, while the back wall is lined with "faux" bricks. Real acoustic guitars decorate the painted walls, and decorative pennants hang from ceiling. There are also a few potted "faux" cactus plants, to give the dining room a "faux" desert atmosphere. Mexican popular music was playing in the background. I sat at a booth, since I was by myself and didn't want to take up a table. Actually, I sat at multiple booths and each one had the same problem... when you'd sit down, you'd sink. The vinyl booth are tired and worn out, and need to be replaced. I ended up a booth by the entry door which was slightly firmer - evidently diners prefer not to sit by the entry door - but it was near the window, which provided better light for photography. Like many taquerias, Taqueria Los Lagos operates on what I refer to as the "taqueria format." There are no printed menus, as the menu is posted above the order counter and the window to the kitchen. You make your selection from the posted menu, pay for it at the cash register and in return, you're given a number. Then you seat yourself at the table or booth or your choosing, and when your order is ready, it will be brought to your table with a smile. Now that all of the virus thing is mostly in the rear view mirror, Taqueria Los Lagos has opened their chi;s and salsa bar for business again. There are several varieties of salsa offered, including salsa verde, fresh salsa, guacamole, salsa picante, salsa roja, and crema, which is a somewhat unusual, but welcome offering. Not shown in the photo but to the left are little containers for salsa "to go" or to bring back to your table, and silverware that is "serve yourself" style. From the "Daily Specials Sabados y Domingos" menu, posted above the order counter, I went with menudo and corn tortillas, and like birria, it's only offered on weekends. That's very common among Northern California Mexican restaurants, as there is a long preparation time with menu - 8 hours or more - and it's renown as a "hangover cure" which makes this savory stew a perfect fit for weekends. I chose corn tortillas, but flour tortillas are offered. The serving was very large, and included a generous portion of tender, honeycomb tripe, cut to the perfect size, and lots of hominy. The broth was brick red, savory, flavorful, slightly spicy, but not at all hot. A nice thing was the stew arrived at just the right temperature, as I didn't have to wait for it to cool to enjoy. Perhaps this is the reason it took so long for my lunch to arrive? Whatever the case, Taqueria Los Lagos serves an excellent bowl of menu every weekend! When I opened the tortilla warmer I was in for a pleasant surprise, as it held a stack of three large, thick, corn tortillas. By looking at the tortilla warmer, you get the idea of the size of the tortillas, as they were the same size as the tortilla warmer! The tortillas were toasted just right, arrived tender and slightly moist, and were THICK... perhaps some of the thickest corn tortillas that I've enjoy during my "foodie" travels in the greater Sacramento area. Such a great side to a bowl of menudo and perfect for dipping! With one tortilla, I took a little cup of fresh salsa - from the chips and salsa bar - poured on a tortilla, rolled it up, and made kind of a "veggie" taquito of sorts, which made for fine dipping into the menudo. The menudo arrived without any additions, so I made a trip over to the chips/salsa bar and loaded up on diced white onion, cilantro, along with oregano, and dumped it all into my menudo. Now I was ready to enjoy!!! Great menudo, great chips, great lunch! Weekends are for menudo, and in the Antelope area, Taqueria Los Lagos is menudo, as they serve outstanding menudo! Oh... don't forget the amazing corn tortillas... I wasn't all that happy to find a piece of a cow knuckle in my menudo, which seems to happen to me much of the time, so I fished it out, and placed it in an extra empty chip box. I took a trip over the chips/condiment bar and grabbed fresh cilantro, diced white onion, along with Mexican oregano, to enhance the flavor of my delicious bowl of menudo. Muy Sabroso!

Ordered a wet burrito and received a pile of refried beans, rice, watery guacamole, watery sour cream and strange looking brown sauce with shredded cheese. Food tasted old and bland. I was really scared to it eat. Needless to say I was very disappointed and plan to not return. I would rather eat Taco Bell.

Grease with a side of food vary disappointing, great customer service and vary nice restaurant but the food NEEDS A BIG IMPROVEMENT

Nachos were a disappointment.

I'd thought I give this place another chance, first visit their tacos were not that great today I ordered nachos and this is what I got when I got home. Gross never again.

Tacos de pollo.

Delicious. Run fast to get el caldo de res. Y los tacos de pollo tambien son ricos. My dad took me here, and the soup is delicious. They can sell out but I highly suggest the caldo. It was delicious with all the fixings. I'll be back. Good authentic food

The good: the service was excellent. I didn't feel like we waited for anything and I didn't feel like they were always there. The chicken fried steak was excellent and quite a lot of food. The teriyaki chicken itself was good and the rice was good. The bad: the vegetables which came underneath the teriyaki chicken seemed like they had been steamed in a microwave. They had an odd texture. It was a minor thing, but it was something I noticed so I'm including it in this review. Prices were a little higher than I expected, $22 for chicken fried steak? The ugly: N/A It's rare that I come to these particular restaurants and I don't order chicken fried steak or corned beef hash plates because I feel that's where their strength lies. But I was in the mood for lunch so I tried it. It was good, but I still think their breakfast menu is where they excel. I will continue to frequent these locations as their service is top-notch and their food is quite good.

I was in the neighborhood so I decided to try this place again. The place is still very bright and clean, and the menu hasn't changed. A wide selection of a lot of different things. Primarily, crêpes and burgers. (of course) I decided to go with the Greek crepe. Cheddar, onions, feta, mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, and black olives. For my side, I chose the salad. Just as good as before. First of all, the salad, the greens were very fresh, and the vinaigrette had a nice tongue to it. It was not overdressed as some people do on salads. The crêpe itself, it was tender, and it was large. They were very generous with the fillings, and everything played well with each other. I was kind of curious about mixing feta and cheddar, but it was amazingly good. The saltines of the feta was a wonderful contrast to the creaminess of the cheddar cheese. Both cheeses went well with the entire crêpe. I was going to try one of the dessert crêpes, but after this thing, I was full. Next time I will come in specifically for a dessert crêpe. We ordered the Hidalgo Benedict, Popeye omelette, and triple plate all with potatoes. Everything we got was delicious! The potatoes were perfect. Soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The poached egg was runny and the chipotle hollandaise sauce had kick. I liked it much more than regular hollandaise. We did find it odd there were no menu prices. Not on the board and we didn't see a handheld menu with full prices. Maybe it was there but we missed it. Once we paid we thought prices were higher than expected. We still had a good breakfast and would like to try their sweet crepes next time.
