Whenever I visit Jax I always look forward to real BBQ. Usually I visit another favorite but this…read moretime my sister and I decided to try out The Butt Hutt for the first time. We came in on a Wednesday evening. We asked about the menu and were told at the counter that it was Wing Wednesday and the wings were $1 each. Well how could we not add those onto our order. We ordered a Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese, and corn nuggets, a Brisket Platter with corn nuggets and beans. We also ordered a large mac for my son and a side of lean brisket. For the wings we ordered the Cajun ranch. Our food started coming out in about 5 minutes. Firstly, I was shocked at the wings. I love wings, but they aren't something I usually order often as I find them just OK. There are only a couple places that I visit specifically for wings. Well, let me tell you, I would make a visit back just for these wings. OMG, the Cajun ranch was simply amazing, really addictive. They were my favorite item. We devoured them. The burnt ends were very good. I appreciate they are big chunks of brisket with no pull pork filler. The flavor was amazing as well and the bits of fat melted in our mouth. The corn nuggets were fine and the Mac N Cheese was quite tasty. We enjoyed the meal so much, were were trying to figure out somewhere for a family lunch the next Sunday and came back again. This time my sister, son and I brought my dad. We of course ordered more wings and burnt ends and brisket with lots of Mac N Cheese. The food really is something special. The wings are absolutely wonderful and the burnt ends are a hit. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants and will always be on my list of visits to enjoy when I come back to Jax.

Ma and Pop's Food Truck proves that a humble exterior can hide a kitchen with serious talent. No…read moreflashy wrap, no chrome, no glowing LCD screens, just two of the kindest owners in Jacksonville serving some of the best soul food in town. Today they rolled into my office parking lot with an oxtail special, a plate loaded with fall-apart oxtails, jerk rice, green beans, and cornbread. I added mac and cheese because a good carb plan requires commitment. Plastic utensils seemed like a bad match for oxtails, but these bones surrendered at the slightest nudge. The meat was rich and silky, full of flavor, and entirely too good for a desk lunch. The sides were no afterthought. The mac and cheese was creamy and indulgent, the green beans properly seasoned, the jerk rice fragrant and bold though a few grains resisted the bite, and the cornbread leaned sweet, closer to cake than bread, in a way that felt like dessert was already built in. You could pass by this truck without a second glance, but you'd miss a meal that demands your attention. 4.5 out of 5 stars Soul food this good deserves a table, not a parking lot.

The party was such a success that it turned out to be 86 plates. Not only did they dish out enough for everyone, but they did it with haste and taste. Everyone was absolutely raving about the flavors of every dish on the menu. The birthday party wouldn't have been as great without them. We HIGHLY recommend for any event and thank you so much Ma and Pop Food Truck for all you did for us. That family-owned feeling and food went a long way with us. Can't wait for the next event!

Wowza! I have wanted to stop here several times and just never made the turn. Tonight I changed…read moreall that, did a u-turn, and found my way over to the truck. There was a very polite young lady out front who was taking orders. I told her it was my first time, and asked for her suggestions. I'm a big Patacon fan, but she suggested a couple of other things, so I decided to go with Empanadas. I chose the pollo & queso empanadas. Food is cooked to order so you do have to wait a few minutes, but boy, oh boy, is it worth it. I took them to go, but just had to peek once I got to the car as they smelled amazing. They also included a sauce and napkins, which I appreciated. Once home, they were still piping hot. The chicken was stuffed so full I swear there was not any space left. The cheese was stringy and oh so good. These were probably the best empanadas I have ever had. The sauce was a great accompaniment as well. I can't wait to go back and try other items. I love Venezuelan food and I'm so excited they're not far from home. She told me they are usually at the spot Thursday - Sunday, 4:30 - close. r
