Visited Taqueria La Monarca at about 8:00 PM on a Saturday evening. There were a handful of tables occupied, but plenty of seating available (seat yourself). We were greeted immediately and given menus. They have a wide selection of margaritas, as well as wine and beer. I chose a cherry margarita, and it was great! We started off with the dip sampler (salsa, guacamole, and queso). Guac needed salt, but was good otherwise (7/10). Queso has some spice to it, and was great (8.5/10). I had the Fajita Trio and it was very good - a solid 8/10. Spouse had the Beef Quesadilla and said it was also very good - 8/10. I took about half of my fajita to go and also brought home a piece of Piña Colada Cheesecake. It had crushed pineapple and cherries on top and was delicious (8.5/10) - the perfect ending to a great meal! Overall an 8/10 - would definitely eat here again. read more

This could possibly be the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Grease was pouring out of the ground beef taco and enchilada and pooled up on my husband's plate. I had to use many napkins to try and soak up the grease from the ground beef quesadilla I ordered. Ate just a small portion after scraping off much of the ground beef. Absolutely no flavor other than SALT and GREASE! Just terrible. read more

We were in town for the night, and stopped at a local store and the lady recommended this place over the other in town for Mexican. The menu is not huge, nor is the place (9 tables in the front and some in the back I think). We came at 5:30 on a Friday and got a table right away. We had chips, salsa, cheese dip, Mexican soda, margarita, kids taco place and fajitas. All were really good and we really enjoyed everything. Service was great too! read more

We haven't been to Ashland for a few years and planned on going to one of our old favorites,but reviews weren't great. Saw reviews on Taqueria La Monarca and decided to give it a try and so glad we did. Very nice little place. Much nicer in person than in photos. Great lunch specials. Lunch fajitas were great and strawberry Margarita was worth every penny. Service was fabulous. Our new favorite in Ashland. We will be back!! The restaurant boasts fresh ingredients, which is evident in their dishes. The carne asada and carnitas tacos, wrapped in what seemed like homemade corn tortillas, were quite pleasing but the meat was bland. However, some elements of the meal didn't quite hit the mark. The guacamole was too chunky for my taste, and the cheese sauce was just okay--nothing special. I visited during supper time, and despite the restaurant being busy, the service was efficient, and we received our food promptly. Unfortunately, there was a significant downside to our visit. We ordered a chicken burrito to go, and the person who ate it became very ill afterward, which was disappointing and concerning. Overall, while there are positives, such as the use of fresh ingredients and quick service, there are improvements needed in the flavor department and food safety measures. I hope my feedback is taken constructively, as I believe with a few tweaks, could really shine.! read more

Food (burrito trio special and birrias plate on back of menu) were outstanding. Margaritas and beer selection was large and we enjoyed our local hazy IPA and traditional margarita. Free chips and salsa started us off in a small space on a busy Saturday at 5 pm. Really tasty Mexican food! I love a chimichanga and theirs were excellent. Instead of one massive one, they serve theirs as two smaller ones and it is a winning idea. The meat to cheese to fried tortilla ratio is perfect. My husband got the Arroz con Pollo which is a favorite of his and he loved it (and based on my sampling of it, I see why). The menu has a good mix of the Mexican dishes you'd expect and a few things that you won't find everywhere. You should have no problem finding something that looks delicious. If I had one nitpick with the food, the chips with the free chips and salsa were merely fine. That's as negative as I can get with the food. The restaurant is small (though there is space to the back and not sure how large that area is) but not cramped. Everything was clean, bright and inviting. If anything, it was maybe a tiny bit loud between tvs, music and people which I really only noticed when talking with our server who was on the soft-spoken side. Service was quick and friendly. At here while in town for a work training. Place is rather small. I had the tacos which were amazing. Always huge extra credit when they have free chips and salsa. All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. After seeing a few other patrons order the fajitas I had buyers remorse so I will be going back to try the fajitas. read more
