Pan-fried Halibut Almondine atop creamy mashed potatoes, with broccolini on the side.
    Jennifer S.

Last week I made a reservation for an early dinner last evening (Oct. 23), during the several days my sister and I would be staying in the area. We were some of the first guests to arrive, and were warmly greeted and offered our choice of tables. Chill-vibe music played on large-panel speakers installed flat on the ceiling around the entire room at a volume sufficient to direct the ambient feel of the place. Our server was pleasant, attentive and helpful in answering questions. We ordered the duck wonton appetizer to start, and then for entrees, my sister chose the Osso Bucco (paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio), and, because I love Halibut, I ordered the Pan-fried Halibut Almondine (paired with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc). The wontons were nicely arranged around a small cup of sweet chili sauce, all in a shallow bowl. They were piping hot, blistered-crispy on the outside and creamy-oozy on the inside. Pairing a bite with a dab of sweet chili sauce made for an exciting combination of textures and flavors. An excellent appetizer choice, one I would love to eat again. Next out were dinner salads, along with two warmed rolls and a ball of their herbed butter. The salad greens were fresh, 'springy' (not soggy) and beautiful, and were topped with shavings of carrot, slices of red cabbage and crumbles of feta cheese, along with a sesame-soy vinaigrette. A very tasty and satisfying salad. Then our entrees arrived, fresh and hot. Both entrees were beautiful in their presentation. My first bite of Halibut, though, was disappointing. It was tough, dry - overcooked - not delicate, moist and flaky as it should have been. Our server stopped by briefly at that same time to ask how our first bites were and did not seem to pick-up on our comments about the overcooked Halibut. The mashed potato bed the fish rested upon was creamy and flavorful, and really nice with the lemon browned butter pooling alongside. Adding more color and flavor on my plate were thin wedges of what may have been oven- roasted heirloom cherry tomatoes, some deep-bright green broccolini, and some bright green sprouts (perhaps radish?) that were on top of the piece of fish. The sauvignon blanc was the perfect wine pairing for my taste - providing a fragrant aroma, pleasant fruitiness and good body - although the pour seemed a bit scant (may have been a 3 oz. pour?). About half-way through my entree, I decided to stop eating because I was starting to feel full and I wanted to try a dessert. My sister's first bite of the steaming-hot Osso Bucco (and my trial bite) was one of great pleasure. Sooo tender, moist and flavorful! The truffle risotto paired nicely with the shank of pork. The sautéed vegetables seemed a bit overcooked, except for the broccolini. She said she enjoyed the Pinot Grigio wine pairing with her entree. She wanted dessert too, so stopped eating her entree about half-way through. For a dessert to share, we ordered the dark chocolate mousse. In was presented in a small brandy-snifter style glass, and was topped with a berry compote and whipped cream. It was creamy, silky and delicious, with rich chocolate flavor paired with ripe berry and sweet cream. It was the perfect size for us each to enjoy several bites. And when we received our check we saw it was just $5 (the dessert prices are not displayed in their drinks menu). We appreciated the "right-size" dessert at the "right price". When our server returned our boxed-up leftovers to us, I told her that my piece of Halibut was rather tough and dry, obviously overcooked, and that I saw one of the women at a table adjacent to ours had ordered the Halibut and had cut a piece of her fish and handed it across the table to her friend and I could see from its appearance several feet away that her piece of Halibut, too, was overcooked. The server seemed aware of this fact and alluded to "some new staff in the kitchen", but offered no apology or compensation, which would have been appreciated. In such a renowned restaurant, the "new staff" really ought to know how to properly cook fish beyond the confines of a deep fat fryer.

This restaurant is an a beautiful historic house. Reservations are highly recommended. Beautiful interior. We were sat immediately. We had a party of five. We had a duck won tons and mussels as a shared appetizer. I had the bourbon old fashion, which was also excellent. The service was very attentive. The char on the ribeye was absolutely amazing. Will definitely come back.

Beautiful restaurant with incredible food. We arrived on a winter weekend, didn't expect it to be very busy. I suggest making a reservation, luckily they were able to squeeze us in at a small corner table. Great service and delicious food. My first time eating ribs, I couldn't stop raving about them! Definitely give them a try when you're in the area, you will not regret it.

    Garlic Peppercorn charred crust ribeye

Super busy & full but the service was excellent. Very attentive, foods came out well paced & delicious. The cocktails were all looking amazing. Duck wonton is like a fusion of flavors dancing in the mouth & was piping hot. The chili sauce enhances the flavor - definitely need to eat with the chili sauce. Garlic peppercorn char crust ribeye was large portion and was excellent. All the tables were full but noise level wasn't so loud & nice ambiance.

This restaurant exceeded every expectation that I had. The food, the presentation, the drinks, and the overall ambience was amazing. There's plenty of free public parking and the inside of it is very cozy and home-y. I ordered the shrimp Thai noodles and we had the duck wontons as an appetizer. If you are staying in Bayfield for a weekend trip or if you're just passing through definitely consider the spot for food.

Made reservations for a Saturday evening dinner and I'm so glad we did! Good Thyme came as a recommendation and I'd definitely recommend to anyone reading this. Service was excellent and attentive. We ordered for starters the Wisconsin cheese curds, for our entrees, we had the 14 ounce handcut Ribeye (very tasty and done to perfection-medium rare) and the Almond crusted Whitefish (fish is light, airy and delicious, love the subtleness of the almond crust). They have a nice selection of wine and drinks, not too overwhelming. We sat inside but they do have outside seating, as well.

Fortunately This is a very fine dining with moderate portion not giant. The highlights are definitely: Caesar salad - made old fashioned way you can taste the anchovy Mushroom soup - almost like French onion soup but mushroom and without overwhelming cheese on top. It's so nice and light. Perfect start to a meal seafood ravioli served with salmon - ravioli is definitely the star . The salmon is just some back up dancer. That Ravioli is magic. Umami bomb definitely taste the ocean (in a good way) and the butter and all the good things in life. For desert - the berry cobbler is special of the day and it is just phenomenal. All great texture are there. Chewy crust. Explosive berry flavors à la mode. After dinner. You can hang out at the porch there's swing. Nice chairs overlook the lake. Next time we should probl stay here

Not sure why my cup of soup took 20 minutes to come, but when it did, it was the wrong soup. She left the wrong one at the table (smoky chicken wild rice) and said the kitchen was just heating up the corn chowder I ordered and it would be out on a minute. Three minutes later, the "corn chowder" was brought out. It was not hot and did not taste good. When the wait staff came out again, I asked her to take it because it wasn't good and her reply was "I'll see if the kitchen forgot something ". Wait....what?? I also ordered the forest mushroom flatbread. It looked pretty but this is a combination that should not exist. The flatbread was cut and then two fried eggs and arugula were place on top so you could not take a bite without losing the egg and salad. Also...when you say it is a "forest mushroom" flatbread, it should actually have wild mushrooms or just call it "Mushroom Flatbread ". On a positive note, the smoky chicken wild rice soup was delicious and the manager stopped by with her apology and a desert on the house. Hopefully I was just here on an off day

I came here for a fish fry just after Memorial Day and the outdoor seating weather was perfect for my pup. The patio overlooks Lake Superior, with a few buildings across the street blocking a bit of the view. It's a nice downtown spot so there are plenty of people out and about walking by the patio. I typically prefer a traditional Old Fashioned, but when in super northern Wisconsin, do as they do. I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and it was great. I even ordered a second one! The veggie dumpling soup was beyond my expectations -- I would have just eaten a bunch of bowls of that all night if I hadn't been set on fish fry. I got the Lake Superior Whitefish fry (Lake Superior was right across the street, how could I not?), which was just ok. The sides were great - french fries and green beans are a Wisconsin match made in heaven. The fish was alright, a bit fishier than I'm used to but that just might be a Lake Superior whitefish thing? Still, I found about 6 bones in the fish fry and I've never had that issue at a restaurant fish fry before. I usually give a few bites to my dog but was nervous on this one. So, overall a great experience and a fun place to stop by. I'd recommend checking them out.
