Delta Diner is literally in the middle of nowhere. They do their own thing on both the food & service front, and the whole thing works. You're going to get the whole spiel if you go but the highlights are: 20% auto grat on every order (fine by me) and no menus. There's a board but the dishes will be explained to you along with 3-4 specials. You'll probably have to wait. You don't get to pick a booth or the counter - they've got a system here. I'm good with all of this because the food is GOOD. Despite tempting specials I couldn't resist the Mexican Benny which is homemade corn cakes topped with perfect over easy eggs, smothered in a homemade chipotle chorizo sauce. It's served with fresh whole wheat toast (the only kind they have) which is perfect for mopping up the delicious sauce. Honestly one of the most flavorful things I've had for breakfast in a good while. Service was friendly and efficient. It's "pricy" for up north but you are getting excellent quality - worth it IMO. If you go, do things their way and you won't be sad.
Holy Norwegian Hot Cakes, Batman! This quaint diner is such a fantastic surprise! We walked in and we're greeted so friendly by Tina. Our server, Suzanne was so kind as well. The menu is printed above the chef, but the servers actually recite the entire menu, including specials table side. I chose the Norwegian Hot Cakes and they were absolutely fantastic! The pancakes are thin and dusted with powdered sugar. I then squeezed fresh lemon juice over the top of them and the hot cakes are filled with little bits of jalapeños. It sounds a bit weird, but they taste delicious!! Mary the chef is very talented and super nice! Will definitely be back again and recommend you come check this little special spot out!
I love this place! What a hidden gem! I was vacationing in the area with some family and my dad recommended this diner. We came on a Saturday morning for breakfast.. had to wait an hour to be seated. In the meantime we grabbed a cup of coffee, checked out the local artist that was setup outside, and even decided to grab a breakfast beer at Earth Rider Brewing which was built in a portion of the parking lot. Delicious raspberry beer, not too sweet! The food was well worth the wait! I love their business model.. the waitresses aren't tipped, and instead paid an hourly wage. They really take their time with each table explaining the menu to you verbally.. talking you through their business model and go into detail about their entrees and the ingredients and explain where they're all sourced from. They buy most of their baked goods and produce from local businesses. Some items featured things like locally foraged mushrooms! The food was astounding! I had the salmon and eggs with a blue cheese pesto, others in my party had the denver steak and eggs. All of our hash browns were cooked perfectly, and the eggs were cooked perfectly over easy. I appreciated that everything tasted of high quality and not loaded with oil and grease. My mom tried the German pancake. The lemon curd (?) that was on top was delicious! The atmosphere was great, a very retro feel but everything was clean and comfortable. You didn't feel like you were sitting in a greasy diner. I would absolutely recommend this place! It is worth a drive and worth the wait.
I drove 8 hours to "go camping" with the fam...well i planned the trip only because i wanted to check this place out. Amazing breakfast those pancakes are so good youll wanna slap your momma. I wish they had the red eye gray like they showed on man vs food but the hot cakes were good. Our waitress was nice i like the verbal menu it forced me to make a decision because im indecisive. I honestly would drive the 8 hours back to get more breakfast. It was that good. Serving sizes are good. That amazing sour dough bread its so beautiful you will cry. I also liked all the gift shop stuff and i bought too much but now everyone knows Ive been there so i feel cool
Damn good food in the middle of nowhere. Delta Diner is destination dining at it's finest. Tucked away in the Chequamegon Nicolet forest is an old school diner relocated and refurbished. When it's busy expect a wait. There isn't much room but you can linger outside or sit in your car. There is also an ice cream/coffee outbuilding that you can check out while you wait. They carry Purple Door for you Milwaukee folks. Once you're seated prepare for no menus and a long explanation of the menu and the pricing of the food. They also add 20% gratuity to the meal up front. Which is all explained to you. No complaints there. It helps to visit a few times because the run down is shorter and you get your food faster! We ordered 3 meals each time we visit. That way we get to share and taste more food. The food is so amazingly good too, that it's worth busting a button on your pants to enjoy. On this visit we shared a Dutch baby pancake with strawberries, lemon ricotta and cream. It also came with a side of bacon because everything is better with bacon. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the pancake. No regrets there. For his main breakfast, my boyfriend ordered steak and eggs which he loved. I ordered the blue plate special pork stuffed hashbrowns. I'm such a dumb Dora though because I had that last time I was there! No worries though, it was just as delicious as the first time. On my next visit it is my mission to try something new. I swear! Service is usually great. Everyone is very friendly and they have a mode of operation that works well for them. It is rather impressive that the servers can memorize the whole menu board plus 5 to 6 blue plate special and the whole gratuity speech. I enjoy Delta Diner and can't wait to return. I highly recommend it for anyone travelling in the area. Or for anyone looking for a great road trip for breakfast. Get some!
I could write a book about the Delta Diner. My sister worked here and all my fiends worked here when I was in high school. I love the building, I love the food, I love the staff, and I love Nina and Todd! Imagine an old school diner dropped in the middle of a forest with the most delicious food and you have the Delta Diner! It's such a fun and unique place to visit. Every single time we are home we make sure to hit up breakfast. This last time we even hit it up twice! You walk in and chances are you may end up waiting for a bit BUT I promise you it's always worth the wait. We decided to hit up the bar because that's usually open, there's not a ton of seating but the bar especially in front of the grill is my favorite! Was helped by my childhood neighbors, love that! We decided on Stuffed French toast, per usual. Pretty sure Daniel got a normal breakfast, I LOVE THE TOAST AND HASH! Add some hot sauce and I'm good to go! The second time we went with the Dutch Baby, YUM, my brother the Mexican Benny, spicy but oh so good, and the boys got mimosas. It was so stinking good each time and this is a place I tell strangers about. Please go if you find yourself in Northern Wisconsin. Huge parking lot, defiantly a wait for breakfast but worth it, and the food is to die for. You'll love it!
What a cool place! It looks like- because of the signage- that this place is super busy during the summer. But it is winter and we arrived at the end of their serving day. We had onion rings and **deep fried Mac and Cheese- with a chipotle mayo** that was AMAZING! Wow. Really really good onions rings too. The server was super friendly and very enjoyable. They offered us free coffee as it was the end of the day- what a great stop! The building was one that looked like a 50s vibe train dining car. Beautiful tile inside- with fun tables and counter seating. Loved it.
Stopped through after a trip to Madeline Island. We ate a lot of good food at Madeline so weren't expecting much when we stopped into the diner on our drive home. OMG!! This place was phenomenal. Can you beat a $4.50 mimosa?! -We shared an order of two Norwegian cakes- a thin, not-too- sweet pancake batter with chopped jalapeños, topped with powdered sugar and served with a wedge of lemon to squeeze on top. It was so good!!! Would definitely eat a whole order myself as a meal. -BF got the stuffed French toast (stuffed with fresh berries and house made mascarpone). It was so decadent- the berries were juicy and the mascarpone was rich and delicious. He loved it. It came with a side of bacon that was probably the best diner bacon I've ever had- thick and crispy. -I got the PBLT- a perch BLT! Lightly fried perch on sourdough-wheat sandwich bread, spread with chipotle mayo (don't skip it), more of that thick bacon, and lettuce and fresh tomato. It was awesome!!! See the picture. Fries were great too- salty and crispy. My mouth is watering just writing this review- we will definitely be back. Love u, Delta Diner.
A beautiful September day drive through northern WI and stopped for the Monday burgers. amazingly flavorful! Our waitstaff was on point and even though we couldn't eat inside we had a beverage and sat in our car... reminded me of the drive-ins we experienced as kids. Cannot wait to come back and try their breakfast! Definitely worth the drive!

Traveling through from Memphis to the west coast, had to come via the Delta Diner! Never fails to please, and we were so pleased by the blue plate seafood fritters and stuffed hash browns, whole wheat multigrain delicious toast, and so friendly service. The owner stopped by to visit our table and tell us tales of his time checking out Tennessee BBQ, and the waitress ground our coffee and made sure we had everything we needed. We always feel like family here, but let me tell you, none of my family cooks as good as this!!!. We can only stop by about twice a year, but breakfast at the Delta Diner is truly one of the highlights of our year. Stocked up on diner swag, including three bags of ground Counter Creature coffee roasted at the diner! That coffee is making our RV smell great as we drive away. read more
If you want to do pickup, call in advance and schedule a time. They won't let you place an order in person...even if there's no wait and empty tables. Perhaps a COVID restriction. I wasn't ready to eat at a restaurant, but since I trekked here, I decided to stay. Asked to sit on the patio for better air flow and was told that table is still dirty and I had to take a booth. The host wasn't thrilled when I insisted on waiting and sitting outside. At a time where everybody has different levels of comfort, I'd imagine a bit of flexibility would be key. The rest of the staff was incredibly friendly and they are all over the cleaning and safety measures. A great menu of options, but just wait til they walk you through the daily specials. The sweet potato hash is mixed with real potatoes, and a fantastic savory mix with eggs on top. Had the stuffed hash browns. Highly recommend getting over easy eggs on top as it was a bit dry. Good flavor on the Dutch baby, but was crazy about the jam on top or mushy center. Worth the stop and be prepared to sit a while. read more

What an awesome little diner with great service and great food. We were there for breakfast and the stuffed hash brown was excellent, the bacon was great, everything was good. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. read more

We drove on beautiful country roads through lush green forests to get there. The staff was super friendly and our breakfasts were delicious. Pedro's Mex Benny and Norwegian pancakes with bacon were our selections and we ate every bite. The place is cool and clean. It was fun to watch the staff work together in a small space like a well oiled machine. Highly recommend! read more

We have been here many times. For breakfast, burger Monday's, and lunch! Always excellent. Always fresh ingredients. Always friendly. A fantastic original menu with great specials! Today we did the BLT with fries and cheese curds. Outstanding! read more

This place is amazing! Stopped by over Labor Day weekend on the way home from Northern Wisconsin and this made our vacation great! We literally drove. an extra hour to detour to this amazing place!! Thanks guys for great food and service especially with us coming in at 1:30pm(they close at 2pm and we never felt rushed by the hospitable staff). We will continue to swing by as much as we can in traveling from the Twin Cities. read more

Five stars hardly covers how good this place is. I have my father on law to thank for driving us nearly TWO HOURS out of our way heading up to Canada to eat lunch at Delta Diner. I would've driven further now that I've eaten there! First, you have to get over the fact that this diner is a culinary oasis in the middle of frickin nowhere! Located in the northern half of the Chequamegon national forest it is close to nothing. Deal with it cuz the diner rocks. We arrived at nearly 2 in the afternoon and grimaced because the gravel lot was full. Chew on this, 2PM on a Tuesday, middle of nowhere, Forty-five minute wait!!! Great sign! So we wait. While waiting I perused the hours of operation. They close at 4pm every day how great is that! We were seated after only a 1/2 hour and the ambiance and atmosphere are pleasant and welcoming. 1950s diner ambiance through and through! Our waitress was Jen and she was phenomenal. Explained the whole menu and joked around very comfortably. They were out of a few things seeing as it was a bit later in the day, understandably. She did give is the heads up that they only had 2 omelets, and one piece of pie left, awesome because we ordered them both!!! I ordered the Pedro Mex Benny A++++ I am always blown away when I get a really far out rendition of a breakfast dish that works perfectly!! I would compare this Benedict creation to Heaven on Seven's amazing brunch creations. The egg was served on to of a piece of unreal cornmeal bread! Apple wood smoked bacon A+. ( of course ) Blue plate omelette. My buddy got this and I don't really remember the exact heavenly creation but there was brusselsprouts and asiago involved. A+++ PBLT - not to be missed take on the classic BLT. Lightly fried fresh local lake perch and some crazy good chipotle mayo took this classic sandwich to a whole other level. A+ Chocolate malt A+. Crazy good and then they set down the tin with another 2/3 of a shake in it!!!! Well played Delta! If you haven't been convinced to go out of your way to get to Delta Diner then you obviously cannot be saved!!! Thank you Todd & the staff for a 1st rate experience! Review 100 - Eclectic and in the middle of NOWHERE. One of the best diners in the USA. I'm from NJ, and have eaten in the finest restaurants in NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, etc, but no finer diner food exists in the world. Infinite attention to detail. Check out the tray of hot sauces that accompanies breakfast. The breakfasts are unbelievable - try the 3.) Eggs, Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Toast (their own blend) - Hashbrowns are world class. A must get. Or the Lucky Denny - (another Must Try). Or the Norwegian pancakes. Or the stuffed french toast. Friendly service, in a gorgeous vintage diner. Say hello to Todd. If you must wait, please do so - it is worth it. If you are ever in town - GO. read more

Off the beaten path, classic diner look and feel with fabulous food and service. Hidden in the forest on a popular county highway and vacation area, this place is a must see. I had stuffed hash browns with cheese, smoked pulled pork shoulder, topped with an egg over medium, a side of bacon, multigrain toast, and a jalapeño aioli. This place can have long waits for breakfast. read more

DROOL! Nestled inside the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, this is easily one of my favorite diners in the world. A must stop any time I'm visiting from Chicago. Don't sleep on the toast! read more
