Had a great time at Fat Radish during our Labor Day trek to Bayfield County! The Friday All You Can Eat Fish Fry was excellent (for only $16?!!!!), as both the whitefish and trout were fresh and well breaded, the included potatoes and green beans were well seasoned, and the salad was cold and refreshing. My partner's Lake Superior Fish Tacos ($12) were also excellent, with the only regret that they weren't more of them. Finally, the service was excellent: we wanted to catch the sunset at the Cornucopia Beach and they rushed an order of trout out to us so we could make it. The Fat Radish, located inside a house in Cornucopia, Wisconsin, is a fabulous spot to get a vegan meal in the Bayfield-Ashland area. They label all their vegan options and even have vegan baked goods. We sat outside on one of their two patios and had a lentil loaf ($20) which was a savory, old-school style of vegetarian/vegan cooking you don't see often anymore (it reminded me of the classic Moosewood in Ithaca, NY). We liked it. The side of french fries ($4) weren't crispy enough, so these felt more like mashed potatoes once you started eating them. The black market curried roasted vegetables ($20 + $6 for tofu) is vegan by default and tasted fine. Lastly, we liked the vegan, gluten-free oatmeal cookie ($3). Stop by the Fat Radish for a nice meal after a day of hiking to see the sea caves of Lake Superior. read more

Very disappointing. Ordered bruschetta and Brussel sprout appetizers. Brussel sprouts were great, bruschetta rather sad. Free bread was good. Vegan in group was happy with lentil loaf. Burger was ok for another. Steak wasn't great and sides with it weren't good. Was excited to order lemon picatta with fish - was pretty bad. Very gloppy and unappetizing- ate very little of it and lost appetite. Server seemed to not track disappointment until much later in meal. Server didn't apologize for the meals- implied it was our issue for ordering that. Was not offered discount on expensive meals. Offered fish tacos but the lemon glop killed any interest in food. did get some average cookies. Not ever going back. Place has lost a few steps since moving. read more

The service was awful. I am all for (and understand) when good food takes time. I think it's completely different when you are avoided or made to feel bad when asking for things like silverware, napkins or water. When entering, a sign asks that you wait to be seated. I watched 2 servers walk around the dining room multiple times without making eye contact with our group or the steady stream of people behind us. Wasn't even too busy as evidenced by one of the servers going back to sit behind the counter. When we were seated, we were told we could sit wherever we want. Why even put out the sign? Took a while to get water. We were able to order within about 10-15 minutes but didn't get silverware until after our food was served and we had to ask for it. No chit chat until the end of the meal which just seemed a little too late. They almost seemed annoyed that we were there. Another 10 minutes after we were done before we got the bill and could close it out. I liked my grilled cheese with the soups of the day but my companion was not a fan of their meal - mufaletta sandwich. Would have preferred the mac and cheese probably or maybe some of the creative deli salad options. All in all, it has potential but I would only recommend if you have time to kill and if you don't care about human interaction. read more

We got here at about noon and barely anybody in and within about 20 minutes every table was full. I was in a party of 8 people with one "child" ( she just usually eats off the kids meal) We got A few appetizers then ordered and I know the sign says they support the slow food movement, but just to let people know it took about 25 minutes for everyone to get their food. We have three of the cuban bowls, fish tacos, quiona balls, Mac n cheese, the nachos, and the chicken fingers from the kids menu. I got the cuban bowl without guac or pico and it was good but if I was on my own I wouldn't have paid for it because it was $15 for not that much food. Like A 1/4 of the bowl was meat 1/4 of black beans and then a bed of the rice and a crap ton the veggies all over. It was alright and I know the restaurant selection is few here, but I don't think it was as good as people made it out to be. read more

We had a late breakfast there. I had the Irish Benny, which was fabulous. My wife had the breakfast burrito which also was good, came with a very good cup of cut up fruit. Service was good. Old spot (was the Village Inn), now totally redone into a vibrant new spot here in Corny! Just the interior work makes this restaurant/bar worth a stop..lots of air and light. But don't forget to try the food! The whitefish was sooo good, as well as the delicious/spicy curry bowl. Most of the offerings are locally sourced (Stella Artois isn't exactly local). Just recently reopened as The Fat Radish, I suspect that the taps will reflect a more local flavor. So slow down, stop by and try this new experience! read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the region. it is not a fast food restaurant, but the wait staff is most friendly and brings drinks and appetizers fast. when your main course gets there, you will find the wait is worth it. We made reservations and arrived on time. A table was ready for us. So far, so good. Unfortunately, we had to wait for nearly 90 minutes after ordering to get our food. Our server was great and kept us updated, but some in our party were ravenous by the time our order finally arrived. The trout (both pan seared and deep fried) was excellent, but the pan seared whitefish was unexpectedly dry. The burger was great, but it was a burger, and a bit expensive. Refills on the all you can eat fish did come out quickly but that was a small consolation after the long wait. Overall, the visit was rather disappointing. read more

We just finished a kayak adventure and we're looking for food. We didn't think we would find anything except typical bar food but OH MY we're we wrong. The Fat Radish was amazing! I wanted to order everything. Unfortunately due to COVID they were not making breakfast but that was fine for us. My wife got the Black Market Curry Bowl and I had the the Cuban Mojo Bowl. I loved by choice. You could tell they used all fresh ingredients and the pork was wonderfully prepared. But then I tried a bite of the curry, it was amazing and I wish I had ordered that instead. We might just return again if we don't like the other options in the area. We found this place the first day here and I can only hope there are more restaurants like this one. read more

With all the hype about needing reservations, we were able to walk in and sit down, we were actually the first of the evening, albeit on a Wednesday night, but still. Now the food. The appetizers were pretty good. The dinner soup and salad was good. The dinners were not. My wife and I wanted the whitefish on the couscous with capers. But they were out of whitefish. Understandable in many places, but we were 1,000 feet from Lake Superior and less than 2,000 feet from one of the most active fisheries in the area. I am confused, but that wasn't the biggest issue. Our two dishes sat under warmers long enough for the sauce to set up, skin over and start to crack open. My daughter got the curry veggies, and neither of our dishes had flavor. I mean, none. My wife added salt and pepper to her dish and she never adds salt to anything. We were disappointed. I thought this place was wonderful!! While I was visiting bayfield I actually went there three separate times ( breakfast, lunch and dinner) throughout the week. I couldn't get enough!! The atmosphere durning the day is very quaint and causal. For breakfast I got the crab cake Benedict and sweet potato hash. It was so good. All of the ingredients are fresh and local and you can definitely tell! I went for lunch one day and had a grilled cheese w/ avocado and French onion soup. Again, amazing!! At night the put white table clothes on and it becomes more of a high end feel. I was most blown away by dinner. I had white fish with gratin root veggies. I swear I talked about that meal for days after!!! If you're in Bayfield I highly recommend this restaurant any time of the day! read more

Everything we had here was good. And the prices are fair for the quality. The beef and blue cheese sandwich was amazing. The smoked whitefish was light and delicious. I have mixed feelings about this place. It's awesome that we have it in our little town. The concept is great. They make very good cappuccinos and cocktails. Their to go sandwiches, bakery, and lunch menu is consistently good. The issues are however so consistent and frustrating that they detract from our experience every time we go there leaving us disappointed. Specifically, I somehow always choose whatever they are out of on the menu and not once have they told me ahead of time what they're out of so I don't fix on that item. While good food does take time (as is posted clearly in the restaurant), here it takes an exceptional amount of time and the food is frequently not hot when it arrives. The menu is awesome but the execution is very hit and miss. We've tried nearly everything. Finally, the menu rarely changes. I have not posted a review despite coming here ~30 times over 18 months because I want them to do well but today I was finally asked how everything was. Pleased to have been asked I answered "oh okay." The response was baffling - a laugh. That's it. Not "how could we do better?" Just had a nice evening out with friends we had the flat iron steak and it was absolutely fantastic . We also had the leg of lamb and it was also fantastic. The Shrimp el Pasta Fresca had great potential but when it comes with less shrimp than a shrimp cocktail it really takes a hit. The pasta with it was really good with some kick but very small portion, and only 3 shrimp . We had the bruschetta as an appetizer and it was very good just missing a balsamic drizzle or even some olive oil. Drinks were really good and the Dublin Moscow mule was tasty. A small sandwich shop cafe serving a variety of wholesome fresh sandwiches (and breakfast). We popped in on the recommendation of our hotel to grab sandwiches prior to our kayak adventure on the lake. They've got quite a selection of big hearty fresh options. My wife and I opted for turkey and Brie served on tender cranberry bread with arugula and a tangy whole grain mustard (really good) while others in our group tried turkey Swiss cheese and apple on ciabatta which were also great. Caution-sandwiches are pretty big so you might want to consider sharing (my wife could only eat 2/3 of hers). Prices were good, especially given the high-quality ingredients and size. A perfect place to stock up for that bayfield adventure. We liked it so much we even stopped back the next morning for breakfast-I had quiche while others got delicious egg sandwiches.
