Prior to numerous changes in ownership this was a great restaurant but after the pandemic it went quickly. We had lunch there screw weeks ago discovered that the barbacoa was terrible. My wife ordered Menudo and it was horrible she even thought it tasted like they used Dog meat.! They also don't have the bucket of beer special any longe all in all a dissapontment. I've been coming to this restaurant for as long as I can remember. A lot of things have changed but the food is as delicious as I can remember! Considering how much food you get in a meal for two, it's definitely worth the shockingly low price. The service has always been amazing, especially when that one server (Nieves?) is there which is practically every day. Ambiance is fun on the weekends as they have karaoke night and although it's really loud it just makes you feel like you're at a family party. U can use restaurant.com certs here and what I'm guessing is their sister location in horizon. I had the parrillada for one with Al pastor. Comes with about 12 oz of meat, 9 tortillas, baked potato, quarter avocado, radish, lime, cilantro, sauteed onions. If u can't tell, it is a ginormous feast for one. I loved the tortillas that were griddled in some kinda fat. and all the different little things it comes with. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was that the Al pastor was quite fatty. If it was chopped up I probably would t have minded but I will not take bites of pure fat lol. Don't forget to load up on the red sauce, guac sauce and extra onion and cilantro at the salsa bar. The parrilladas get better at the 2 and 4 person package so I'd come with a group next time. So to be honest I almost drove past because I thought this place was closed down! It just kind of looked like there was nobody here. But my wife insisted that it was open so I pulled around. Boy am I glad she was right! This is fantastic Mexican food. I'm not the ultimate judge but I don't think you could get any more authentic. I'm a huge fan of Pastor and I was not disappointed. Very good authentic Mexican food at Santa Cecilia Restaurant, 5500 El Paso Drive, El Paso, TX 79905. Currently owned by Serrato DeAguirre and Olga Beatriz. Jose Marcos, the manager/cashier even poured the Indio dark beer in my frozen beer mug. The chips came with three types of salsa: mild, spicy and very spicy. Hector, the cook, came with the perfect Caldo camaron con pescado. The serving size was good, the price was reasonable. Jose Marcos checked on my needs every ten minutes, as there were only five tables with customers at 9 P.M. Approximately forty to fifty vehicles will fit in the parking lot. Bonus points, Santa Cecilia Restaurant has storm doors on both sides of the building. A wheelchair will safely navigate the hallway toward the restroom. The restroom was clean, well lit, has the mandatory grab bars and is ADA compliant. The sound volume of the television needs to be toned downed a couple of levels. The tables and floors were clean. I did not find any old chewing gum stuck under my table. Service was fast. Jose and Hector projects a friendly and professional manner, and can maintain customer eye contact. Next time, I will bring my family, relatives and friends to eat at Santa Cecilia Restaurant. This hole-in-the-wall eatery is a gem. First time in El Paso, and I wanted to grab something on the way from the airport to the highway (heading up to New Mexico). Of course, Mexican was the way to go. I mean, you can practically see the border from here. And in fact, you CAN see Mexico from here. Without that whole pesky going to Juarez thing. It was lunchtime on a Sunday, and it was fairly quiet. The young lady who would be my server was absolutely wonderful. She recommended the tacos al pastor, which says it comes with six (!!), but said I could pretty much get any number I wanted. Four sounded good. Beef or pork? Why not two of each. No problem. A few minutes later and my food was up. Nothing fancy, but sure authentic (which is what I love). The beef ones were okay, nothing great. The pork was, as expected, the winner. Great flavor, minimal fat. Plenty of cilantro and avocado to enhance. The lime wedges were not great - dry and barely anything came out. I also got a real Coke from across the border. All of this was, I believe $10.50. I came in to get my son some vegan tacos I asked the waitress if they make vegan tacos, the chef said they don't make vegan tacos so I asked the waitress if they can just place beans in the tacos instead of meat and again the chef said they don't do that, so I asked the waitress if I can just buy the beans and tortillas separately he took awhile to answer then finally said ok. The ghost of Ay Cocula has resurrected... This place used to be "Ay Cocula #1" - the other being the one on Lee Trevino. Now that Ay Cocula is no more, this place is EXACTLY what it was like when it was Ay Cocula. Even the menus are EXACTLY the same...and they still say "Ay Cocula" on them! Of course, the six-pack of tacos is the preferred meal. They didn't serve them with the grilled unions, but they're still outstanding. Santa Cecilia looks like a converted fast food restaurant - perhaps an old McDonalds or something similar. Anyway, go in and sit down and face away from the kitchen - you don't really want to count the numerous apparent health code violations. It's as close as you can come to eating off of a cart in Juarez ... and they must have had a VERY sight impaired health inspector when they checked this place. HOWEVER...these are a very worthy and excellent successor to the six-pack of tacos at the old Cocula on Trevino. Order your six-pack with some queso fundido (plain, no chorizo). A little queso and some of the freshly sliced avocado in your taco and you'll swear you've gone to taco-heaven...albeit a ramshackled, unkempt heaven... Five stars? You bet. Good service, great food. I noticed this place on the corner while driving through a neighborhood between Western Refining and the freeway. Hey, this place was pretty good. We had the platter for two with a side of tacos. Nothing fancy, just an old building behind Fox Plaza. Usually these hole in the wall places tend to have better food and the atmosphere is always inviting. My chelada was awesome, and humongous. The food was good except that they give you what seems like an entire stick of butter on your potato. I seriously doubt anyone actually eats it all because I didn't. Anyway, who cares about the butter...lets talk about the food. Yum yum yum. I ate every bit of it and I'm sure I'll miss it when I leave. I appreciate little places like this that don't skimp on portions and you never leave hungry or feeling like you wasted your money. Sunday evening, not too busy, the server acted more like he wants to sleep than anything else that he was careless of us. But service aside, we ordered the parrillada for four since we had four. A gigantic plate of greasy meat came. I do enjoy a juicy meats, but the steak and pastor was old and dried, as if they just heat up some meat to serve. Maybe it was all bad timing, so the food wasn't as fresh as it should be. Our experience is not the best. There are many places locally that serves parrillada so we won't be back for sure. Hopefully the server catch up on his Zs so he came make some deserving tips. read more

Been looking for some good tacos in El Paso and these were pretty good.. We ordered a parillada with carne asada and it comes with baked potatos and queso fundido. The tortillas were corn and cooked in oil. The parillada itself was meat and cooked onions as well. The meat itself was tasty and the tortillas were yummy. However it was all pretty much drenched in oil. Don't get me wrong the best food is the greasiest but it can and will get overwhelming very fast. They serve you salsa with totopos and the salsas were yummy. One downside is that our table was dirty when we got there and when the guy cleaned it up, he must've used a dirty cloth because it left the table with a stinky smell.. Another downside was that we asked for limes and toppings for our tacos and they didnt take us any until the 3rd time my husband asked.. Good food, but needs a bit of improvement in the service side. I got the parrillada for 2 half bistek and other sirloin a lot of the pieces of bistek were hard. I know a lot of places don't usually give out a decent amount of meat but you'd think the meat they provide you with wouldn't have a lot of fat or hard bits haven't tried anything else on their menu. Mexican food I have ever tried.We had carne asada, tripitas and al pastor tacos: the carne asada was bland, the al pastor was dry and extremely greasy, I squeezed so much oil out of them, and the tripitas were so so dry, actually crumbled! They put napkins in the plate, I guess they know how much oil will come out of the tacos and place the napkins there to mop up all that oil. The tortillas were also completely saturated in grease - disgusting. I can't believe I wasted my cheat day on this mess. We came here because they have good reviews, man are these people wrong!
