    Carnita's

Traveling south on Interstate 95, I googled "Best Yelp rated restaurants near Interstate 95-Savannah, GA". Lots of good choices came up so we chose Taqueria Los Compas. Located approximately a mile off I95, restaurant was located near the Savannah Airport in a small strip shopping center. We were quickly seated and studied the menu. My wife ordered carnitas and I chose steak and chicken fajitas. Basic choices. Food arrived quickly and that is when we realized we made a great choice. Carnitas had a wonderful taste and was so tender. Fajitas were just as good with wonderfully spiced steak and chicken. We loved our lunch and were happy we found this non chain, authentic Mexican delight!

Look at the picture of the horchata! It is DELICIOUS! AAAAND LOOK AT HOW BIG IT IS!!! I had the juevos a la Mexicana and it was magical!! So spicey and the beans and rice were perfection! Everything was seasoned perfectly! As a bonus they brought FRESHLY made tortillas!!! My hubs had the taco salad which looked pretty standard, but as he dove in, it became obvious that the veggies were sautéed with original house seasoning. Everything was SO GOOD. Once again, the Yelp reviews were ON POINT!!!! One Word to sum up... GO!!!

Chose this as our dinner stop on a road trip and am sooooo glad we did. The food here was just wonderful. The taco salad I ordered was loaded with rice, beans, and sautéed veggies. Throw on the house salsas (rojo y verde), and I overate because it was just so tasty. The fam devoured theirs as well. The inside is one big open dining area with a direct view of the kitchen area. It was decorated nicely, and still had some Christmas decorations up. There are some TVs for distraction. The service was not excellent, but it was good. We did have some challenges as one of the servers did not speak English, but using my basic Spanish words and a translate app took care of that. A second server did speak English and also helped us.

Might have been my favorite meal during my 5 day stay in Savannah. I wasn't expecting good Mexican in Pooler, but I was pleasantly surprised. Large portions, quick service and reasonable prices. Most importantly, delicious food. I ordered some tacos (cabeza, al pastor, suadero) for myself. My wife ordered some sort of torta and my 2 year old had a kid meal quesadilla. Also the largest agua frescas i've ever seen.

The tacos here were outstanding. Packed with a lot of flavor and made right in front of you. The ambiance feels like being right at Mexico. The service is top notch.

This Mexican restaurant seems like a family owned place but oh my god it is the best Mexican food I have had in a while. The place stays pretty packed through out the day but they are able to get everyone seated fairly quickly. The food also comes out very fast. We got the Pollo a la Plancha con Jalapeños that comes with tortillas. The corn tortillas were so soft and warm, did not taste any grainy texture. The chicken was tender and juicy and simple but their salsa and salsa verde were to die for. Everything together was a great combination to have had. The agua fresca was the perfect balance for the meal and this one will be a staple going forward. Highly recommend!

A new restaurant in Pooler - they moved into the old Pie Society location. The restaurant is small with about 10-15 tables. It's very clean with simple decor. You can hear and smell the food cooking - just a note, you will smell like the food when you leave as their ventilation doesn't seem to be the best. I stopped by the lunch. It was busy with a few people from Gulfstream and a lot of construction workers. There was only one waitress, but she was friendly and efficient. I had the asada tacos. They were ! There was a ton of meat on the tacos. The meat was so flavorful and tender. I requested lettuce and cheese only, but I believe the standard is cilantro and tomatoes. One of my new favorite lunch spots - affordable and delicious. I will definitely be back soon!

This place seems very legit but I think the carne asada I ordered was a little overcooked. It was very thin slices of meat and easily overcooked. The flavor was really good aside from the dryness of the meat though. The rice was good and the stir fry onions were also really good though.

Continuing my business trip foodie journey, I had to find a Mexican spot for Taco Tuesday. Behold, Taqueria Los Compas. Parking - They are located in a plaza with other businesses/restaurants so there is plenty of space to park Now to food. I ordered a Taco Salad with Shrimp (you have the option of 2 proteins - but I'm pescatarian) and I also ordered Queso and Mango Aqua Fresca. Listen. This was by far THEE BEST taco salad I've had in my life! Shell was fresh, crispy and they did not skip on the filling of the salad. *Chefs Kisses* Queso was a good consistency and decent serving size for price. That Mango Aqua Fresca..oh my goodness!! Do not leave without getting one! The establishment is quaint and clean for sit down. Service was courteous and efficient. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in Pooler!

Food was excellent. Authentic. Service was attentive, though my Spanish and their English was poor, we pretty much got what we ordered. My big complaint was my check was changed to a 25% tip when processed to the credit card. It's not much more, but a blatant credit card infraction that the credit card company is taking much more seriously than I thought, after I supplied a photo of my bill with amount and signature. So, .... Be aware. Hopefully someone there sees this and stops the practice. Next time I pay cash here.

You could easily miss this hidden gem, tucked away on the corner beside a gas station. There are dine-in options, but most people seemed to be taking their food to go. It's the best quick to go option I've seen. They had my order ready in no time. I ordered an assortment of tacos: carne asada, birria, and fish tacos, plus a side of guacamole and chips. To top it all off, I added their homemade cheesecake casera with strawberry purée... and of course, a large agua de jamaica con limonada. The staff were some of the friendliest I've experienced in the area--must be because they're from Cali lol. My only suggestion would be to leave the sauces off the tacos for to-go orders, or explain that "all the way" means everything on them. By the time I got back to my hotel, the sauce had soaked through the tacos, so I missed that classic one-hand taco experience. Also... definitely add extra limes. Thankfully, those chips came to the rescue, and the flavors absolutely did not disappoint. Bottom line: it really did hit close to home. The flavors were on point, and the true winners of it all were the fish tacos and the cheesecake.

Extremely disappointing customer service after 10+ years as a customer…read more I placed an online order for about $50 worth of food. When I arrived, I was told their system had undercharged me by $2. No problem, I was happy to pay the difference. Instead of simply letting me pay the $2 and giving me the order I placed, they told me they had already made something different and that I could either take the wrong tacos or buy two additional tacos. I had to argue just to receive the order I had already placed and paid for. The issue started because their online system only allowed me to select one meat option for a 3-taco order. My wife is pregnant and specifically wanted three carne asada tacos, so I selected carne asada (with the $1 upcharge) and placed the order along with about $35 more in food. When I arrived, they had made tacos with random meats instead and suggested I just take them. After finally agreeing to fix it, they insisted I pay the difference but charged me $3 plus tax instead of the $2 they originally said. I questioned it, and immediately after charging me they admitted it actually was $2. By then I had already been overcharged and no one seemed concerned about fixing it. So to summarize: * Their system glitch caused the issue * I was willing to pay the difference immediately * I had to push just to receive the order I placed * They overcharged me anyway and didn't correct it All of this over $2. After more than a decade of supporting this place, the way this was handled left a really bad impression. The food has always been good, but the customer service during this interaction was extremely poor. I won't be back.

I was lucky enough to get a spot on the deck and it's just a great atmosphere. The service people are all fantastic but what can you expect from the Georgia people. I love it down here. I had to try the chorizo poppers and I'm glad I did. What a great dish, crispy fried wonton filled with chorizo cream cheese served with a delicious sriracha honey sauce and lots of chopped bacon and green onions. I'm stealing that one to make at home. I had 3 fun tacos all bangin'. The menu is fun and there are no bad choices. This place was a great find and what a lucky gem for the locals.

I sat at the bar right away (I was by myself) and promptly got my drink order taken and food order filled. I got the steak elite bowl and special cucumber margarita, along with the mango habanero salsa and plantains. The drinks were really good, the whole staff had great customer service, and inside was nice and clean. The steak bowl lacked flavor, I was glad I got the habanero salsa - it made up for the lack of flavor on it and had good spice. The plantains and cinnamon apple sauce on the side was a nice "dessert" after my meal. Chips were hot and salsa was fresh and vibrant. Not a bad experience. For 2 drinks, bowl, and 2 sides it was only $35-45.
