El Sazon is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! We've been enjoying their food and drinks for about 1.5 years now. The restaurant is owned by the same couple who own El Ranchito in Port Wentworth. I believe the food at El Sazon is a step above other restuarant - more flavor and better ambiance in the restaurant. The food is flavorful, fresh and generous. If you like a bit of heat, try the Sante Fe tacos - 3 steak, cheese, onion, bacon and guacamole, with grilled fresh jalapenos to give them a kick! The $10.50 plate includes rice & beans too. Sometimes I mix up the 3 tacos on a plate for a little variety. Who can refuse a steak, a shrimp and a chorizo taco on Taco Tuesdays?! My other go-to is the Burrito Roketa - grilled pork & onions. Both are delicious. Heck, everything here is delicous! Creamist cheese dip ever! There are daily specials - $2 off taco plates on Tuesdays and Chicken Fajita special on Thursdays. I can't remember the others but I appreciate a place that gives you a little discount on specials each day. Fast, friendly service who really look after you and remember their repeat customers. I came here for lunch and I was so happy I did! When we walked in, we were seated quickly and placed our order in right away. Our waitress was funny, kind and attentive. She brought out the chips and salsa and both were good! Our food came out right away. I decided to get the Texas fajitas which had chicken, steak, shrimp and veggies. It came with a side of beans and rice and I did not want any tortillas. My dish was absolutely delicious and well seasoned! My coworker ordered the Texas rice which has chicken, steak, shrimp and veggies on top of rice covered with nacho cheese. She stated it was delicious! New restaurant, I think they have only been open a month or two when we came for dinner. Food was below average, lacking seasoning, and many errors in service. - Served Beer Rita Margarita on rocks instead of frozen as ordered. I asked them to remake a frozen for me. - Served flour tortillas instead of corn as ordered - Molcajete served with ranchero sauce instead of tomatillo sauce as ordered - Molcajete ordered medium hot but served mild Overall the food was bland. Everything needed salt, including the chips and salsa. Molcajete was bland. Children's chicken fingers were worse than McDonalds, which isn't good. Beer Rita was served with full size beer turned upside down in margarita, and it was big drink, but just average flavors. The rim had very little salt on rim of glass. Wife ordered El Pastor street tacos. They were just ok. Of interesting note, there is a power outlet at most, if not all, tables. The outlet includes both 120VAC and USB ports to enable you to stay awhile and keep phone charged. It's a nice touch for those that wish to hang out. The restaurant is owned by same owners as El Ranchito which is one highway exit north on I-95. One of the staff wore the El Ranchito shirt, which caused me to be suspicious and ask. Brought the family and they were impressed! We checked in on Yelp and received our enchilada dip.. Y'all... let me tell you it is absolutely tantalizing! They make their own margarita mix daily it makes a huge difference! We first ordered the house made guacamole. It was so fresh with tomato,avocado,red onions, jalapeños it was very delicious. The chips were fresh and made perfectly not over cooked. I ordered the Carnitas dinner and it did not disappoint it was the most delicious tender pork moist and juicy and the rice was so different lightly spiced and had seasoned carrots in it, it was so good. My daughter ordered the Carnitas flour tacos and she was extremely happy and said absolutely the best carnitas she's had in a long time. The food and service 100% amazing . This was one of my favorite restaurants here to start out. In person the food is pretty good and service is pretty quick. My low rating comes from the take out... regardless of how much you order they no longer include chips. Order a large cheese dip and you get the smallest bag of chips imaginable. If you ask them for chips it's another up charge. So multiple entrees and a large cheese dip are expected to share a bag of maybe 10-15 chips. First, I read all the reviews. We just needed a quick bite to eat while passing through town. Decided on this place. We were immediately greeted by server when we opened door. Food was hot and quick and fresh. Hubby had some steak dish that he loved. I ordered the chicken soup which is enough for a meal! It came with sliced avocado, side pico de gallo, rice, and juicy lime wedges. The soup had floating golden circles of chicken goodness, like real old fashioned gramma soup. White WHITE shredded chicken, bright green broccoli, whites cauliflower, and delicious broth. So much I could not finish it. It is located in a small strip mall next to Burger King, no frills kind of place. Plenty of parking. Hostess promptly greeted us and escorted us to a booth (booths and tables available as well as bar seating). The decor is typical deep colors of orange and reds; booths are high; lighting is dim; music is Latino...feels like you're in Mexico & forget the dreary, cold, wet outdoors. Waiter, very young and adorable HS student, came and got our drink orders. Then returned for our order. Food came timely and looked/tasted fresh! Food... Chips and salsa on the house: chips warm and thick with a nice crunch/crispness. Not stale at all. The salsa was good but standard, not spicy. Mexican guac...smooth and full of flavor with the right amount of lime juice. Not spicy. I'm sure you can request that. Don't eat it all so you have room for the entrees! We ordered the 3 tacos meal each. You get a choice of flour or corn tortilla. They are thin but not delicate. So they hold up well. Sides standard are a bowl of rice and pinto beans, with hot sauce and verde sauce on the side. We had steak/shrimp, shrimp, pollo, fish and carnitas. Each had a delectable slice of fresh avocado on top! Large selection of margaritas and other cocktails. I got the pomegranate margarita, so good! Would highly recommend if you are tired of the chain restaurants (a lot of them around this area), crazy affordable (3 tacos meal was $10.50 that incl the fish and shrimp tacos! Most places charge $2.50-4.50/taco, no sides & few have grilled fish or shrimp; small house margarita is $3.95!), authentic with fresh ingredients... My mouth and tummy are very happy! This place is great so far in my book. Being Latino and growing up eating homemade food, I never go by anyone's review of a Mexican restaurant. I usually have to try it myself. I'll explain what I liked and also give my opinion on the rest. Pros- the chips were thick and crispy with salsa that is a little thicker and mild. Im not a fan of heat so the salsa was actually perfect for my taste. The service was just what I expected from a new establishment. Entrees- Chicken fajitas: meat seasoned well, juicy chicken, caramelized onions, and amazing tortillas. The tortillas appeared to be homemade and not that store bought junk like most of the restaurants here in the Savannah area. You can kill some great meat with a bad tortilla. This place did great! Pollo Al Pastor: this was my dish and it was perfect. Perfectly seasoned, chicken was juicy, and the pineapple was amazing. Again, they had great tortillas and a side of 2 sauces. The green was mild and it's something I would eat on just about anything. The red salsa is spicier but packed with flavor. Cons- I'm not a drinker so having no bar doesn't sway me either way. I do like having a Jarrito with my tacos and they didn't have any of these. I read a review about not having coke products! That's not a reason to give someone less stars. Coke is bad for you and kills your liver. Shame on your review! The menu is a bit tough to follow, but with time I feel like the staff will figure it out. Each lady came to our table and offered more drinks, or asked if we were okay. That's quality service. The rice was mildly seasoned and didn't have that overbearing vinegar taste. It sat well with me. If you like spicy food then the beans will be your style. I wasn't a huge fan just because they were too spicy to me. I did try them and wanted to devour them because the flavor profile was solid. I just didn't want to regret it later. I'm happy this place is 3 minutes from my house. Clean new restaurant! Honestly their chips in "chips and salsa" were a step above for me, loved the thicker crispier chips! I opted for the street tacos trio (you can't mix n match which is cool) and I got the chicken pineapple choice and OH my gawsh they were amazing! It came with beans and rice, their house made hot sauce and a cooling green sauce... not sure what the flavors were but I'm digging their creativity that sets them apart. This place is not your typical Mexican food restaurant. The subtle details place them a cut above! The ingredients were fresh, yummy and flavorful. Is it possible to fail in the preparation of TexMex food? If you come here the answer is yes! The complementary salsa they serve is watered down and has no bite or character. I added hot sauce to it and it did not help. The burrito i ordered looked really good but again lacked flavor which was true of the rice and beans it cane with. The beat thing was the margarita but I will say i am not a fan of bars that measure out their alcohol. I had to ask for an extra shot of tequila. Service was slow and really not all that friendly.
