My first and not last time going to this fresh, authentic Mexican restaurant inside of a grocery store. The lady was so nice helping me with my order and even let me try a little horchata, which was delicioso. Don't expect a fancy restaurant or chips & salsa served on the table. This delicious treasure is found inside a grocery store! As you walk into the grocery store, head on to the back. You'll see a few tables and a counter where you can enjoy your food. I've never dined in, but it's just self seating and if it's during lunch time you'll probably have to make space for others to sit at an empty seat next to you. I order the asada steak tacos and they are really delicious. The steak is juicy and tender! I also tried the fish taco which was disappointing. It was somewhat mushy and there wasn't much flavor to it. They have homemade tamales during the weekend and they're so good! We love the red pork tamales. At least 12 meats to choose from. Some I was unfamiliar with and had to Google. Cicena and Lomo were two I was unfamiliar with. I saw him pulling the carnitas out, and my decision was made. They had salsa verse and salsa rojo available on the tables, and the salsa verde was perfect on the carnitas. Neither of us had eaten since breakfast (4 pm and starving) and neither of us was able to start our second taco. They were very generous with the meat. Tortillas were fresh. This was my second time eating food from Taqueria Los Laureles. The first time was four or five years ago when I ate at the store. My earlier review commented that it wasn't as clean as I would have expected. After reading the recent reviews, and the fact that you can order delivery I decided to give it a try. As those who read my reviews know, I comment about how food allergies are handled. When ordering from GrubHub there is a section for you to put special comments. Before you type, the box has instructions showing what to write there and they specifically mention food allergies. I have a serious milk allergy. I always write, "No cheese, butter, sour cream MILK ALLERGY" in that box when I order. I was eager to try it based on others' reviews. But, like many other restaurants, they either don't read notes or don't understand how serious a food allergy can be. Of course, there was a lot of cheese in the Burrito. (I ordered a Carnitas Burrito Meal.) I cut into the burrito before eating any and saw gobs of cheese. I wish I could eat it but I ended up throwing it away. I used to complain to GrubHub when something like this happens. Their usual response is to put a $5 credit on your account, no matter that your lunch was $20 with their delivery fees. It doesn't seem to make any difference, and the blame is really on the taqueria so this time I did not notify GrubHub decided it really wasn't their fault, they just facilitate the transaction, They provide the order as you type it. No disrespect to others who rated their food with 4 and 5 stars. I'm sure it is true. This, however, is a special case. And, no, I did not take pictures of it after I cut into it. I ordered 2 of the 3 steak Taco Tuesday specials, and it came out to be $14.98, so $7.49 per order. There's a 10% sales tax of $1.50, and tot's came out to be $16.48, which isn't bad for what you get. The cook makes the meat on the spot and loads the tack with chunks of steak. The absolute best authentic mexican food in the area. Mexican food is one of my husband's go to meal options, so we eat a lot of mexican food. The restaurant portion is located in the back corner of the grocery store, so if you did not know it was located in the store , you may miss it. We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and it was packed. There are a handful ot high top tables and 5 or 6 seats at the counter. We ordered our food and were able to sit at the counter. We waited about 10 minutes for our food, but we are not complaining , it was made fresh!/ My husband had the carne asada tacos, his go to choice. I tried the carne asada and it was so tender and seasoned to perfection. The tacos were topped with plenty of cilantro and onions. I had the chicken burrito bowl. It was loaded with rice, beans, cheese, lettuce and chicken. The meats were so flavorful and grilled to perfection. They had salsas available for toppings in containers . Thinking that I had found the location that served THE Torta, I then discovered Taqueria Los Laureles. THEY have the BEST Torta's I have ever had! Let's talk about their Asada meat. Large tender pieces which are seasoned and then marinated and grilled to perfection. The bun which it is served on is oh so fresh and heated on a panini press. Toppings include lettuce, onion, refried beans and mayonnaise. My wife especially likes their asada and poblano pepper tacos. Well this was our go to place for a tasty lunch and great value but all has changed. All tacos are now $2.99 each regardless of the time of day. The El Pastor taco was over cooked and HALF the MEAT! The Chicken taco was cooked fine but again half the meat! The Lunch Special was $7.99 w/ a soda can (formerly $6.99 4 months ago. I get why). Now I was told the Lunch Special is not a menu item any longer. I can no longer give this taqueria a thumbs up for value nor consistent quality. I did notice the usual cook was not the cook today. However, Rosa J. made it work and found "Taqueria Los Laureles" inside a tiny supermercado in Rolling Meadows, not too far from the Woodfield business/shopping districts. She literally went through three (3) pages worth of Yelp search because she wanted something inexpensive with a local flare. This place is mainly "solo para llevar," but there are five (5) chairs available for patrons choose to dine in. Hubby and I ordered two (2) gorditas de asada, two (2) tacos de chile relleno, and two (2) horchatas medianas. The total came to $19 and some change. The steak was made fresh, which I could see what the cook was making in action. The Mexican police soap opera kept everyone entertained. It was a bit funny and occasionally over the top. Nevertheless, my Spanish is still at the elementary level and didn't fully understand every line. Hubby was glad that the chile relleno taco was available for those who want non-meat options. The only minor complaint I had was the corn masa pocket was slightly dry, and the horchata could use a bit more cinnamon to balance out the "sugary" taste. Found this place on google after searching for some good tacos in the northwest suburbs. I got 3 tacos: chicken, carnitas, and al pastor. They were all delicious and flavorful. My only thing was that the carnitas had a lot of fat which I hate. In addition, the cashier needs to have better etiquette and maybe a little friendlier. I tried to order some papas and she said "I don't have any" instead of saying "hey they're gonna be 15min if you want to wait for them". AMAZING and lowkey taqueria. It's a Mexican supermarket with a little food place in the back. I always get 2 steak tacos and 1 chicken taco with cilantro and lettuce.
