As a first-time customer, they were exceptionally welcoming and encouraged me to sample several menu items to help me decide. The only problem? We had a great experience at Thlaco Taco over the weekend. We've wanted to try them for a while and finally had the chance. This was for a late lunch - we arrived after 2 PM and there was one table in use when we arrived, so it was quiet. You go to the counter to order and to pick up your meal when it is ready. We both ordered three taco dinners. I had two Asadas and one Al Pastor, my partner had two Al Pastors and a Birria. We also shared a Pineapple-Mango Agua Fresca. Service was quick - and they make everything to order including fresh tortillas! First, the Agua Fresca was amazingly good. But the tacos - oh my they were outstanding. They were hot and very flavorful. The beans and rice were also tasty. The location is in a strip mall in Rolling Meadows. The restaurant is bright and airy with maybe 25 tables. The chairs are plastic and could be more comfortable, but they are still okay. Oh - I said in the beginning that there was only one table in use when we arrived. By the time we left not only were more tables full but there was a pretty good line at the order counter. We had a great time and excellent food - highly recommended. read more

It's Hard to find Al pastor off the trompito, so when I saw they offered this I had to try! Man I was not disappointed. From the fresh made tortillas and sliced pineapple for garnish, their Al pastor tacos were awesome. They gave us a sample of their al pastor straight off the vertical spit for us to try. They also let us sample a couple of their drinks, including aguas frescas. I opted for the taco dinner ($19.66, including tax), which includes three tacos of your choice, as well as beans and rice. I chose a mix of quesabirria, asada, and al pastor, because I wanted to try a little bit of everything. Everything is made fresh in-house, which is really cool. The tortillas were soft, and although the tacos were small, each taco was packed with delicious fillings. The rice had great flavor! I wish they had given it in a bigger container. Thlaco tacos continues to be a top 3 taco spot for me. This location is larger than their Hanover park location, at max capacity it seats 49. Service throughout was quick. Staff members make you feel like you're part of their family. They radiate warm and kind positivity. My cousin and I ordered at the front counter and when our orders were ready the number on our receipt was called. Since I also ordered tacos to go, a staff member actually walked it over to me when it was ready vs having me grab it while I was dining in. My favorites from here are basically all of them... haha! My usual taco order is: Al pastor, carne asada, and a quesa Birria. Everything is flavorful, moist, and cooked perfectly. Whatever you order from here, you can't go wrong. Was nearby yesterday so thought I'd give them a try. I had intended to go to Los Laureles right by them but thought they might be closed on Sunday. I ordered 2 asada tacos -- the woman behind the counter was pleasant. It was 90' and I didn't feel any air conditioning at all in this restaurant. It was beastly by the counter (the cooking area is right behind) and even though the seating area is very open it was hot as blazes there as well. The chairs are very uncomfortable and the room is pretty garish. I'm sure if busy it would be very noisy. I'm glad I was taking them to go. While the tacos had a good flavor there were big pieces of fat and/or gristle in every single bite that I had to spit out, I'd say about a third of the taco. Other taquerias ensure that the fat and gristle are trimmed off. There are many better alternatives. read more

The Al Pastor tacos served from a rotating trompa meat topped with a slice of pineapple are so delicious But that's not all - the Mulitas are a specialty, resembling a quesadilla but made with freshly homemade tortilla. This place is so good. Their Tijuana Style tacos are great. I had two steak tacos and a Side of beans Keep in mind these are street tacos so they run a little on the smaller side. They come with a fresh made corn tortilla. It is counter service and they turn the food out pretty quick. Everything is fresh and delicious. I've been driving by this spot for a couple of days, and after it was highly recommended by the folks at my hotel, I finally stopped in. The first thing I noticed walking through the door was the sound and smell of fresh tortillas being made by hand in the back--if you know tacos, you know that's the first sign you're in the right place. This taco shop has locations in both San Diego and Tijuana, and as someone who lives in San Diego right next to Tijuana, I can honestly say they've brought that authentic border flavor straight to Chicago. After two weeks in the Chicagoland area trying different Mexican spots, I finally found the real deal. I ordered the Adobada taco dinner plate, and it was on point--complete with the pineapple, just like back home. I also had two Carne Asada tacos, which were equally delicious. The flavors were authentic, bold, and exactly what you'd expect from Tijuana-style tacos. Pedro, the owner, is clearly dedicated to maintaining the same standard you'd find at the border, and it shows in every bite. So I was in the neighborhood after a baseball game and decided to check this place out. It's HUGE and looks really sharp! You order at the counter and then grab a seat kind of like a Chipotle setup. The menu screens are a little tough to read, but they have paper menus by the register, which was helpful.The person taking my order was super friendly and made me feel right at home. They have a TON of aguas frescas maybe eight or nine different kinds but wow, they're pricey! Almost $9 for a large! I tried the mango pineapple, which was tasty, but not $9 tasty, especially since it's an artificial flavor. The horchata was a bit weird, and honestly, between the mango pineapple and another agua fresca mango passion fruit that one was good, my drinks alone were almost $30! Whoa! I also grabbed a few different tacos and some other stuff. The nopal (cactus) taco was surprisingly amazing! It came with everything beans and a nicely spicy salsa. The asada grilled beeftaco was a bit of a letdown though I was expecting more flavor and better quality meat. Same goes for the al pastor marinated pork even though it looked awesome on the trompo and they put pineapple in it, the meat was a little bland and mushy. And the chorizo? Yeah, not a fan. Seriously, the nopal taco was the best of the bunch! The birria tacos were incredible crispy and bursting with flavor! Definitely recommend those. I also tried the asada mulita. The homemade tortillas were delicious, but again, the asada wasn't my favorite. However, the loaded TJ fries were a total win a huge portion and really tasty. Just had dinner here I'm forever looking for a great taco place because I absolutely love tacos! I can have tacos for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My husband found Thlaco Taco on Instagram and we decided to try it out for dinner and it was amazing!! Food is DELICIOUS! I had a quesabirria taco and a taco de pollo. My eight-year-old put away four tacos not to say that they're small but they're fully loaded and he's like me! He loves tacos! They are generous with the stuffing even if it's a bit it's around four dollars of taco. It was absolutely delicious and worth every dollar! It's authentic (they make the tortillas right in front of you) and did I say it's delicious?! We will definitely be coming back!! Need to try the other items on the menu. Tacos were ok. They weren't how I used to remember it when I tried it when it was new. The old 7-11 used to be here. But one thing I noticed was the ceiling. I saw it was kinda leaking.
