I moved up her from San Jose a couple of years ago and I love tacos, I have tried many many different taquerias in Hughson, turlock, Ceres, Modesto. I have to say this is the best I have found. These tacos are really good. Order the super taco. Their carne asada has a lot of flavor, they're big, their guacamole is tasty and spicy. It's a drive for me, but I make sure I stop here for 2 tacos everytime I'm in the area. I also used them for a big birthday party bash we had. Been eating at this place for years and has been good never great. Went in this morning for a breakfast burrito to go and after waiting for ten minutes I kindly asked for a basket of chips to go, not a full order, just a basket. I was told I'd have to pay extra for chips to go. These kikes just lost a loyal customer over a 20 cent basket of chips!!! read more

I was just driving by and lunch time called. I found this place in the corner of the complex. It was clean and the salsa bar was also clean and everything looked fresh. The guy behind the counter was very polite and friendly. I had the Vege Burrito and it was great. Not just bean filler with a bit of cheese. This was burrito was full of guacamole and was great. A little sloppy for the car, but it was a good burrito. And great prices--so reasonable. read more

There's so many raves about this place that they have the best carne asada and tacos. How? Not even close. Tacos were bland and the sauce was very tangy, and lacked any spice. Absolutely one of the greatest places to get True Mexican food. Very happy with the customer service. The shrimp burrito I had was to die for mmmm... I would have gladly given 5 stars but, I do feel they could be a bit more cleaner behind the counter and grill area. Also, I understand eating in is a tad difficult because there isn't a whole lot of room to sit but maybe if their tables were a bit different and arranged a certain way that it could and/or would house more seating without crowding and still be within the Marshall fire standards. read more

I ordered the chicken super burrito. It was well priced and large. It wasn't really worth coming from Turlock. The sauce, though flavorful seemed to be put on too heavy in an attempt to mask subpar ingredients. Chicken was dry and fatty. Not sure I understand the whole salsa police thing going on. It was ok, but with the stale chips, I doubt Ocean's 11 will be devising a caper to extract it anytime soon. Fountain soda had the aftertaste of Modesto water. Need better filtration. read more

stop by for lunch after finding this place, here on yelp. must be pretty popular spot because there were a lot of people in line. first thing I noticed was that it's pretty crowded at the entrance and nowhere to really stand, if a line is starting to form. dining area felt clean and comfortable to be in. well it was comfortable once I got out of the line and didn't feel like I was in a sardine can. no greeting upon initial arrival. only had one person taking orders and serving tables. hostess/cashier/waitress, did a good job multitasking and getting everyone taken care of. you can tell she is use to it. menu is simple and easy to order from. ordered super burrito with grilled chicken. burrito was much bigger then pictures online. chicken was awesome. which is rare because most places have a hard time making something simple is chicken. so kudos to you. also had a some really good salsas to choose from at the salsa bar. Best $1 tacos around. Staff is always friendly and fast. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually pretty busy since it's $1 taco night, but you'll hardly ever have a wait. The staff is efficient and courteous. Our family tries to go at least once a week, great quick dinner after a long day. read more

I rarely write reviews on Yelp, but I felt it was necessary for this place. I don't live in Modesto anymore (moved to the east bay 6 years ago) but I still occasionally make the hour-plus trek just to get the mahi mahi fish tacos from Taqueria Modesto. That should tell you all you need to know about this place. The only place I've found in Northern California to rival the fish tacos of San Diego, Taqueria will always hold a special place in my stomach (and heart). read more
