I enjoyed the authenticity and feel of this place, but it's a bit hard to plan to come back given its size. It was more of a small counter feel, with only one table inside. The menu is extensive, and the highlight to me was the mole nachos; it's not something J could have all the time, but it is unique and tasty where I enjoyed the new flavors I was experiencing. I would order these again. I got a burrito - no veggie option, so just without meat; it was solid but nothing to salivate over. Okay, Okay! I admit, I have a Mexican food addiction. Call me the Mexifood Guru, ha! I ordered tonight from Seamless and I am more than pleased with my order. It was all just so DELICIOUS Delivery was fast, my food was still hot and once again DELICIOUS I devoured it so my pics won't be pretty but hey, at least you can see what I ate right? On this rainy day I gave them a call and and ordered A Torta de Cecicina and some tacos de Barbacoa that were absolutely excellent as usual the bread on the torta was so fresh light and flavorful all the trimmings inside and the Barbacoa melting and the tortillas. Have been ordering here for 9 years and tonight an individual there refused a $20 bill because she said it was fake with the only explanation that it "looked different." If you're going to refuse money from a customer, you should at least know how to properly test a bill. An *actual* test on the bill was performed and it is in fact legit. I'd suggest investing in a counterfeit bill marker. They're not that expensive and would probably avoid turning away paying customers. Food is good but make sure you bring various looking bills so they'll accept one or two of them in the hopes of paying for your food! read more

Wow! The storefront is unassuming, but they definitely make some killer tacos. I stopped by one afternoon and tried the al pastor tacos. Their's are definitely some of the best I've ever had - a bit greasier than I would like - but soooo delicious. They don't skimp on the taco fillings or the sauces either. I appreciate that everything is made to order and that they take their time with the construction of the tacos, but if you are in a rush, I'd suggest calling in your order beforehand. The only downside to to-go orders is that they don't provide boxes. Everything is simply put on paper plates and wrapped up in foil. Okay in a pinch, but it definitely made a mess when unwrapping. For $3/taco, the food here is actually a really, really great deal. If I permanently lived in the area, this would be my go-to taco shop! read more

This place is always good. It is my go to for a mission style burrito in Bushwick. Huge and tasty, I like Carnitas.

Only reason I'm giving this place 2-stars instead of 1 is because it's probably my fault for choosing an authentic restaurant when I know damn well all authentic food I've tried, no matter where, has been bland. The blandest of the bland. No seasoning whatsoever. I ordered from this place for delivery for the first time in my friend's neighborhood because I was craving "the idea of authentic" tacos I guess. I was expecting seasoned chicken chunks with all the fixings (cilantro, salsa, onions, guac, etc). I also bought a quesadilla expecting the seasoned meat along with cheddar or american cheese oozing along with it inside of a four-way cut flatbread thing. What I got was a surprise. First, the delivery took about an hour. I didn't care much since I called the place nicely and they told me they were busy. I'm not an asshole, plus I wasn't starving. So, delivery wasn't a big deal for me. Food gets in my lap and it smells amazing. I open the container with four tacos packed in and I'm ready to chow down. They're not stingy with the meat, thy gave me plenty of limes, and a great amount of red and green salsa. I'm thinking this is going to be great and amazing. After my first few bites after putting on the lime, there was no flavor pops or...really anything. It was as bland as eating unseasoned chicken between just...flatbread with no salt in it? I can't put my finger on it. I was disappointed considering the high ratings I saw of this place. It wasn't spectacular at all. I had to carry home my leftovers and add hot sauce to give it SOMETHING. Then and only then was it worth eating. Don't get me started on the quesadilla. I mean, I don't know. Call me culturally ignorant, but when I picture a quesadilla, I don't remember loose strands of lettuce, flavorless white melted cheese, and more unseasoned meat between an even thicker bland flatbread. Even the salsa that was given was JUST spice. It wasn't seasoned with any salt or anything. I passed my quesadilla to my friend who took care of it for me, but he said it was kinda weird too. The ONLY real good thing I can say about this place is the fact that the ingredients used were super super fresh. But, what good are they if you don't help it with seasoning mate? TL;DR: Extremely BLAND food, but authentic I guess? Next time, I'm hitting up an Americanized place. That, or just an American cuisine place in general because I'm paying for flavor pop, not lightly seasoned or lack of seasoned food. read more

Ordered for delivery over the phone because seamless wasn't working at the moment and boy what a mistake that was. The girl who answered the phone barely understood English and even when I spoke to her in Spanish she kept messing up our order. There were awkward gaps of silence - where I was like HELLO? Did you get that last one? She'll pause and then finally answer. She was clearly distracted. After a gruesome 10-15 mins of ordering like 10 different items, we finally completed our order. ETA was about 30-40 mins. 1 hour goes by and they were closing in 5 minutes. When I called the same girl was dazed and confused once again but managed to get a hold of the delivery guy - who was 10 mins away. Delivery was delayed because he was out on another delivery and they had to wait for him to return. At last, our food arrived. Here's the outcome of what I tried: Al pastor tacos - their best tacos, deliciously juicy and flavorful. Chicken tinga tostadas - spicy shredded chicken on a crispy tortilla. So good. Cheese quesadilla - while very large (two people can split in half), the corn tortilla and sour cheese didn't go well. Some dishes were good, some were OK - so I'm torn about this place. I just finished eating a small portion of my order and I had to stop as I started feeling incredibly sick to my stomach. There were several pieces of chicken that had fat attached and everything lacked flavor. I ordered rice and beans but the cup of beans they sent had a bunch of gravy and hardly any beans (seriously, like a spoonful. They also smell spoiled. It's a solid spot for authentic Mexican. Pinto refried beans are my personal preference. I won't even walk into a place that serves only black beans. The beans were good, a little on the runny side and under-salted, easily fixed. The salsas were a bit bland as well. I had the verde and the roja. Nice spice to the red but again under salted. I enjoyed my tostadas - chicken and carne asada, but the chips were browned and over cooked a bit. Again, undersalted. If the beans and chips were better, it would be a solid 4. Doña Sofia always throws it down in the kitchen. She's always there slangin' the ill tacos, burritos, and tostadas when I'm too drunk and/or hungover to cook for myself. She's even waited for me after closing time to hand me a bag full of goodness. I've been in the neighborhood for a little over two years and found this gem a few days after moving in. I was hooked on the burrito for quite some time but then got on a taco tantrum. Carnitas and chorizo are my preferred meats but you really can't go wrong w/ any of the options she's cooking up. Had a Mexican friend show me what Agua de Jamaica (hibiscus drank) was all about and all I wanted to say was "ear me now!" Apparently it's made in house, too. Ok, I generally only review Mexican and Middle Eastern places in NYC, and usually only to lament the Mexican and praise the Middle Eastern. In this case, I'm happy to report that I'm here to say, as a former SF resident, this place does al pastor pretty freakin' legit. Before you ask--no, it is not on a spit...thus my NYC-only rating (I go on 2 scales, NYC and CA because there's really no comparison and I feel this way gives a clearer picture--see other reviews). I won't give a California rating to non-spit al pastor. It's more like a N/A. But hear me out. This is my first NY 9/10. Depth of flavor, lots of succulent meat (also try the carnitas) and a real knowledge of the marinade/process (which I discussed in detail wth the cook). I'm going out on a limb here and saying this may be the best you're gonna get in NYC (at this point there are few in Bushwick /Williamsburg /Greenpoint I haven't tried. High quality Mexican food abounds in New York (surprisingly enough) without question, but there is a significant price of admission if you want the good stuff. The mid to upper echelon is absolutely worth it, but as a west coast native I also want my dirt cheap tacos, stews, moles and salsa bars too. In this department New York is lacking, and I feel a great aversion to paying for $5 tacos or anywhere that says "California" Mexican. What even is that? Fortunately, I there is refuge in Bushwick. There's a good number of real deal Mexican joints around, and the price and dishes are right. One such place is Taqueria Sofia. After living in NYC for 6 months and being deprived of a good taco joint the entire time, I am SO happy to have moved into the neighborhood and found this joint. This was the first meal I had while living in Bushwick (thanks to Yelp) and it didn't not have an impact on why i wanted to live here. Best tacos in Bushwick. Best tacos in Brooklyn. Some of the best tacos in all of New York City. I will stand by that. Pastor tacos + homemade red sauce - bring it on, any night of the week these things will go toe to toe with any other shop in NYC. For the price, arguably the best authentic taqueria in all of NYC. Coming from Southern California it was a bit difficult finding a good taco spot. This place definitely takes the win. My go to are the Al Pastor Tacos (tangy/spicy pork) and the Cecina Tacos (well seasoned steak). My housemate loves their Chorizo tacos.. still something I need to try. Two tacos are filling enough for me as they serve them on normal tortillas (not mini tortillas) and for a price of 3 dollars per taco it cant be beat Their burritos are huge but they are ok flavor wise. Their meat quesadillas are quite delicious but the main attraction are the tacos. The tacos are amazing! I suggest calling ahead of time to place your order if you are picking up as its been getting busier lately. Also they accept credit cards with no minimum! Long story short - we went here because of the yelp reviews with an optimistic outlook. Ordered a quesadilla, burrito, and a cemita. The pork was crazy fatty. We had even asked how the cut was and we were told "it's very lean. Best cut." The "chorizo" (which I've never seen meat in this color) looked like bacon bits and was crazy salty. We even asked the waitress what she thought of the cemita prior to ordering and she said she had had it once, four months ago. Bottom line, food is not up to par, there are two microwaves in your face while you eat (spells delicious) and they shorted us $5 on our change from the bill hoping we wouldn't notice.
