The best asada nachos I've ever had!! They were so so yummy and each bite was full of delicious perfectly cooked steak, cheese, and beans. I also got the Bistec a la Mexicana, which had an INCREDIBLE savory sauce, literally finger licking good lol. The food is actually really good but the service is terrible. First time we went, the server didn't want to walk our drink around the bar and bring it us. I happened to be in the area with a coworker for lunch, just wanted something quick, the place is very clean cut in terms of design but it did not feel like a taqueria or like the taquerias you can find in Roosevelt avenue. Parking was difficult, no free parking in the area and we has 2 meals with tax and 15% tip for $32 and some cents- no drinks not even flat water was offered. Not sure that i would come back either. My friend asked for tap water and we never got it, so he bought a Mexican Jarritos soda mandarin flavor, as that was the only flavor they had. I ordered 3x Pollo tacos, 1x Asada, and 1x Chorizo. These came with 2 sauces and a few slices of cucumber. All three of the taco meats have their strengths and cons. The chicken had a great chew to it, the negatives however was that it was not juicy and almost a little too bouncy for me. The steak tasted juicy and it had that beef flavor that you want from steak. Lastly the chorizo was dry but still tasted good mixed with the Mexican spices. The best part of these tacos were how massive and filling they were. Each one comes with a huge dollop of Guac on top! As you can see from other reviews, the food here is great, the service? Not so much. It is a shame because I love the food and have been here numerous times but I refuse to continue to give them my money when the service is abysmal. Every single time I'm there it's the same two servers with the worst attitudes, especially the one with the blocky eyebrows. They constantly get the orders wrong. Not to mention they do not check in whatsoever, you constantly have to flag them down to receive anything, it's as if they don't want you to keep ordering . The worst part is every single time I go there they add a 20% tip for themselves, when really I wouldn't even consider going past 15% OUT OF COURTESY because of how bad the service is. I caught on after the first 2 ish times that they tip themselves and I always make sure to ask them to see the receipt breakdown before finalizing the tip, however, today I was in the bathroom and my friend who has never been there received the bill and paid. Our total was wrong (charged for an extra shot we DID NOT order) and they tipped themselves 22% on that. Like get out of here. Time and time again I justify the lack of service here by telling myself the food is really good but it is not worth it anymore. I hope management learns to better train the wait staff because this place would do so much better with better service. Have passed by this place enough times that I thought it was worth visiting. Probably the only place in NYC that I've actually seen a chimichanga at, so I opted for that. Portion is generous + I like that it comes with guac & pico on the side. The vegetables inside are a bit weird (cauliflower, peppers, broccoli), but I think I've seen that in burritos before, so I wasn't too shocked; I just wish there was a bit more flavorful filling so it wasn't just these more watery vegetables. The best birria tacos hands down. As a Mexican person I'm very wary of Mexican restaurants and what the dishes will be like. La Taqueria is as authentic as it gets. Food, ambiance, vibe, all of it is super authentic. I've had their birria tacos most and each time it's savory, flavorful, and very generously portioned. They do not skimp on the meat!!
