Funny, I was driving to North Texas, and so I stopped at this restaurant on the way up, and then on my way back a couple days later I had to stop in a different part of temple and ended up at another one of the same restaurants lol. Let me start by saying this business is under new management. Which in my opinion is a good thing. The food is classic Tex-Mex nothing fancy, but it's always prepared to order and my experience has been pretty good. The tacos are crispy. Tortillas are soft and the food is seasoned well. In Texas it's hard to get excited about Tex-Mex but this restaurant is definitely on its way to redeeming itself; as I've had a few poor experiences in the past. It sits right on the corner so you can't miss it. The interior is a mix of all the diner and new restaurant. It's a hodgepodge, but somehow it works. My advice is to forgo the drive-through and step inside to order your food. I feel like going inside goes more quickly than the drive-through, but others may have a different opinion. If you're looking for Tex-Mex cuisine, that's a step above fast food then this is your place. I must say the housemaid salsa is delicious. I've ate there many times but recently went there n my 8 yo daughter wanted a ball out of the machine so when I went to pay a 50 dollar bill with a debit card I asked can you charge a extra dollar so I can have 4 quarters for her to put n a machine. We order the mini tacos and if you want to try one of each they charge and extra dollar for each taco. I order enchiladas and they charge extra for the sauce and cheese on them. That's crazy to charge for something that should come with the order. Take away the sauce and cheese from enchilada and it's no longer and enchilada it's a chicken taco. read more

Let me start off by saying this is the 3rd street location that I am reviewing. I have placed night before breakfast taco orders here 3 times now. The quantities have been between 30-60 and they have been ready by 6:20 AM bagged and ready to go, complete with cups of salsa. The tortillas are out of this world. They actually have a woman who makes all their tortillas fresh. There is no comparison to fresh versus out of a plastic bag. They have a great selection of tacos- the chorizo is also really good and not greasy. My personal favorite is bean and cheese add scrambled egg. They separate them into separate sacks so it's easy for my coworkers to choose what they want as it's marked on the outside of the bags. I can't speak for any other menu items but I can say that the breakfast tacos are reasonably priced and a hit with my coworkers. read more

Great hole-in-the wall authentic Mexican place that reminds me of some of the same types of excellent eateries in Southern California. I had breakfast tacos, a pancake (okay, not everything is "authentic") and plenty of coffee. The food is outstanding and plentiful for great prices! Service is good, and the servers are friendly. If you like spicy salsa, ask for the green tomatillo salsa. It's good stuff! If you like crappy, chain Tex-Mex food, this isn't the place for you. Don't come here for atmosphere or pretentious Austinite dishes either. Come here for great grub at a great price. read more

This place is close to my work and we occasionally eat here. The food is pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant. I love their salsa. My reason for three stars is as follows: the food is pretty mediocre; your food is likely to be greasy. Also, in my three visits, I've never felt like the restaurant was clean. Everything is run down and old. Honestly, I'm just as happy with Taco Cabana which is cheaper. Now, this place does have breakfast on lockdown! You pull up, order and have your food all in about five minutes or less. They have their flow down and I have yet to get a wrong order. I will continue to get breakfast because of their efficiency but for lunch and dinner, Rita's is probably my first pick. read more

This is my go-to place for Mexican Food in Temple. My favorite dish, by far, is the chicken tortilla soup. My mouth waters just thinking about it! The people are friendly! I sometimes have a bit of a issue communicating with some of the staff, but only because I don't speak Spanish. I also love the quesadillas and taco salads. read more

I'm a big fan of hole-in-the-wall mom and pop Taquerias, and this 3rd street location happens to be about 3 minutes from my house. One of my favorite items on the menu has long been the chicken soft tacos; I'm not sure why I ever stray from this menu item though because they never get my order right when I order anything else. I recently ordered the pork barbacoa tacos with only tomato, avocado, cheese and sour cream, and made a point to order it with NO onions and NO cilantro. I have a cilantro allergy and I am not a fan of raw onions. So, of course, when I got my order home and unwrapped the pork barbacoa tacos I was looking so forward to, I was not just a little bit disappointed to find that there were no tomatoes or avocado in sight... mainly because there was no room left. All of the available real estate within the soft, handmade tortillas had been filled with onions and cilantro. The addition of the sour cream - that I had asked for - made it almost impossible to scrape off all of the cilantro and onions. This wouldn't be *that* big of a deal, really, if it wasn't the third time this has happened to me when ordering pork barbacoa tacos in the drive-thru. I know it can be done, because I've ordered exactly the same thing in the dining room and my order has been perfect - and delicious, if not a little unnecessarily greasy, but I guess that's part of the charm. I suppose the old addage "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me." applies here. The moral of the story - pork barbacoa tacos are for dine-in only. Since that's not a reasonable option for me, I'll just stick to the chicken soft tacos and the occasional breakfast burrito if the time is right. read more

Friendly service and the food was brought out very quickly (within 5 minutes). Food was delicious and came in generous portions. Tried out this place with a friend that was in town. Even though I really don't like to try out places with less than 4 stars (sorry! ). The food was okay. Nothing super good. After waiting on us for a half hour the sweet old lady rang my buddy and I up but couldn't remember who had what, and as far as price goes meals are pretty cheap but add ons are expensive. The food here is great! I'm from South Texas so finding good Mexican food in Temple was important - and viola, here's Tres. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are relatively cheap. It doesn't look fancy, but despite it's hole-in-the-wall appearance, it's got great food. Most disgusting cheese enchiladas I've ever tasted. They use processed cheese instead of real block/grated cheese, so imagine someone putting Kraft sandwich slices in a corn tortilla and pouring canned enchilada sauce over it. The salsa also smelled funny like grass and I actually had to add salt to the refried beans. The rice had no added ingredients just reddish orange rice that tasted out of the box.
