Our food: 2 Chicken enchilada dinner Chicken fajita nachos Ground beef enchiladas Taco salad w/ground beef My friend that got the ground beef enchiladas...she didn't eat them because they were dry, the rice was dry and clumped together (so, both probably old not fresh) she asked for enchilada sauce to possibly help ...it didn't. One of my fave spots for Tex Mex on the island! I love the free chips and salsa and the creamy jalapeño dip is soooo good. I usually get their chicken fajitas with grilled onions and it pairs so well with their guac, pico, rice and charro beans. It's also the perfect amount to share between two people if you order the medium portion. Service can sometimes be slow since it gets so busy but the yummy food and drinks make up for it. I like that there are plenty of outdoor tables so you can enjoy the strand and people watch. I want to try their happy hour and lunch specials next, will definitely keep coming back! read more

Fantastic food, and drinks! The watermelon marg was top tier and only $5 a piece! We had the fajita nachos, which were actually covered in chicken on each nacho! My husband and I both had the shrimp tacos and could have shared cause they were huge and we both ended up only eating one and being full! Stephanie was our waiter and she was also amazing, never had to ask for refills on salsa or drinks! The salsa is also served warm and I absolutely agree is the best salsa in Galveston! We were down for the rally and looking for some good Mexican food and we found it! Our waitress was great and kept tabs on us throughout the meal making sure everything was good and drinks full. We tried the chips/salsa/queso and all of it was top knotch! I had the stuff poblano pepper and it was probably the best I've had in a while. I had heard about this place, and we went diddling around downtown at lunch time, so we stopped in. There was plenty of seating inside and out, so we chose an inside booth. They brought us fresh chips and salsa, as well as an avocado salsa. The depth of flavor in that avocado stuff was amazing! We couldn't leave it alone. We both ordered the Fiesta plate, and were glad we did. I started with the shredded chicken soft taco. It was stuffed full to the breaking point and beyond. Great flavor. Then I took a couple of bites on the crispy beef taco. Again, same thing. Then I went on to the cheese enchilada. That was the best enchilada I have ever had. The ranchero sauce had a bit of sweetness to it that made it the perfect foil for the richness of the cheese. We were both stuffed! The server (Daniel, I believe) was outstanding as well. the food was out quickly and disappeared just as quickly. The decor in the place is funky in a good way, kind of like you had stumbled into a quincinera celebration. One final tip: you have a choice between traditional refried beans or charro beans. The charro beans have quite a bit of cilantro. Some folks love it and some don't. All in all, some of the best Tex Mex outside of San Antonio, and in some ways better. read more

Taquilo's is one of my favorite restaurants in Galveston! I love the Ceviche Trio! The ceviche is fresh, spicy with a little sweetness. Just right for me, perfectly sized portions, too. My teenage children enjoy the food here as well. The waitstaff is attentive. The ambiance is fairly typical for a Tex Mex restaurant. I can hear conversation at my table unless I'm outside. It can be noisy outside especially when the street car comes by. The street car hurts my children's sensitive ears so we try to eat inside. read more

Horrible service. Hostess stands around inside instead of being outside at the stand to greet and seat people. Waitress had to be asked multiple times for drinks or refills. The hubby and I took a quick trip to Galveston from Houston. We were hungry, but couldn't decide what type of food we wanted for lunch. Figured you can never go wrong with Tex Mex, so we ended up here ‍ The menu prices were aligned with Pappasito's, which was a shocker seeing that this place more of a Chuy's vibe. Not to mention, it was almost completely empty. I ordered the ground beef enchiladas and a baja fish taco a la carte. The enchiladas were okay, the rice was good and the beans were alright. I didn't really care for the fish taco, didn't even finish it. The hubby ordered a chicken quesadilla and tacos al carbon. When his food arrived, he had a steak quesadilla, opposed to chicken. After a few minutes, the waiter came by and acknowledged the mistake. He apologized and offered to replace the quesadilla, but the hub's decided to just keep it. All in all, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, the drinks were good, service was great, but the food was overpriced for the quality/taste. Had a really tough day. Came home and realized that the comfort food I craved was right in front of me. I lost 2 friends and was in the mind to do the thing...feed the craving bc...duh, life short! We were seated and we waited about 10 minutes before our waiter came over to us to get our drink order(4 waters) and then another 10 minutes for chips and salsa. We don't understand because 2 months ago the food was delicious. My family were polite and said it was good but I know the truth. Really enjoyed my lunch at Taquilo's! I loved how they offered bottomless tortilla chips with two different types of salsa. The red one was ok, but the green salsa was DELICIOUS! I couldn't get enough of it. As for my entree, the El Jefe was a great option and really filled me up. It was a really tasty chimichanga, and the rice + beans I got on the side were great as well. My husband ordered the chicken chimichanga with refried beans, and I ordered the fiesta plate which came with a chicken taco, a beef tamale, cheese enchilada AND rice and charro beans. This is a must try and our absolute favorite restaurant when coming down to Galveston island. We recommend taking an Uber there if you're visiting during peak times because parking does get to be a bit of a hassle if the strand area is crowded as only parallel parking is available (even paid parking gets mostly taken). When you walk up, you are greeted at the door and you have the option to sit outside or inside: The outside is absolutely beautiful. You can enjoy nice weather and historic architectural views of adjacent building. The inside is absolutely festive, vibrant, and colorful! The walls are brightly colored yellow with loteria images as art pieces on their wall with table and booth seating that is amply spaced. Outside or inside, either is a great choice. Alright to the good part, for starters, you have to try the queso. They say it's the best in town and let me tell you, I can vouch for this! The chips are thin and very crispy! I love it! For my meal, I usually opt for the ceviche! It has a tangy and fresh taste and for me it's a great low carb option! The margaritas are amazing, sorry I don't have a pic, but they are a must try. When my food arrives it was mainly lettuce and cheese, when I finally got to the chicken it was just shredded chicken no sauce no flavor. I asked the server if my order was right she said yes that their chicken tinga is just shredded chicken. When I sat down at Taquilo's, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The wait was longer than we'd been quoted and we ended up sitting outside. Our waiter was nice enough and the menu looked pretty standard. Little did I know that I was about to enter Ciudad del Sabor (aka Flavor Town) and crash the Fajita Fiesta. Their beef fajitas are better than any damn fajitas I've had in Houston. The beef was tender and perfectly marinated. It was so unexpectedly delicious, we didn't even ask for sour cream and cheese. The ceviche was so-so. Mahi mahi tacos were legit. And the lobster shrimp taco on special was super rich and tasty. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food.
