    Shrimp & Lobster Taco

Cute little spot downtown. Food is typical Tex Mex, but very seasoned (hello salt!). Staff was quick to check in and super friendly. We walked around after lunch to shop and then stopped back to grab a beer at the bar. If in the area, and craving Tex-Mex, worth a shot. Oh, and the patio is on the trolley line, so cute little view when it rolls by.

A nice surprise in Galveston. Great service and good server went outhis wayti have fresh guacamole made for for my vegan dietary needs. It was brilliant my flexitarian friend enjoyed nachos and the margarita was cold and tasty. A good choice on the island

1st time here and was very impressed! Loved the warm salsa and thin chips! We ordered the Mixed Grill, which was way too much food, so we had enough for a 2nd delicious meal to go! The only bad thing was going on Saturday, thought the margaritas were really small for $10, so I'll have to make sure and only go during happy hours when they are $5.

Such a fun spot on the Strand! Sat at a table outside and had great service, food and drinks!

When I last came here, it was in the spring of 2018, and my visit was so-so at best. Fast forward to today - six years later - and it turned out the second time was the charm. To think, as I was searching for a place in Downtown Galveston to have lunch so I could take the afternoon portion of my meds, this wasn't my first choice. Two of Taquilo's neighbors were closed because of Hurricane Beryl, so that was how pulled up into the former Stork Club. I said in my last review that service was slow. Samesies today, but at least this time, there were plenty of storm weary islanders looking for respite and a hot meal. It was two-ish when I was here, so I helped myself to the Fiesta Plate, one of the lunch specials. Well, well, well. I misjudged Taquilo's the first time. The size of the meal caught my eye; it was big enough for even two people. Presentation-wise, the kitchen put everything together nicely. The soft chicken taco, the crispy taco, the cheese enchilada, beans, and rice all made it feel like Dia de las Patrias (Mexico's Independence Day) on my taste buds. Sure enough, I was really satisfied with having chosen Taquilo's. I'm a fan of their crispy taco, by the way. It's one of the best Mexican places on the island bar none.

Empty and still can't greet a guest...

Was recommended this place. Sadly upon arrival no one was there to tell me where to seat. After standing and waiting I ask an employee and am told I can sit anywhere. I grab a seat just me and my dog and sit for 20 minutes as managers and employees look and walk past me. I never got greeted and had to find a different place to eat. Also this is a Monday at 4pm they had an empty bar and maybe 4 other tables. No reason for this type of service. Extremely disappointed coming from over an hour away.

Grand Mayor Margarita - Jose Cuervo, Grand Marnier, sweet and sour, agave nectar and splash of OJ

We've been here a few times and I finally remembered to take pictures as the food is delicious and I usually can't wait to dig in. My husband ordered the "Grand Mayor" margarita which includes Jose Cuervo, grand marnier, sweet and sour, agave nectar and a splash of orange juice for $9.95 (pic attached). He really enjoyed it. Also, attached is their drink/happy hour menu. Happy Hour is M-F from 11am-7pm. My husband and I shared a medium beef and chicken fajitas (serves 1-2). Pic attached. It comes with two sets of rice and beans (refried or charro, we got charro). It a nice sized restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. We've never had a hard time getting seated (although we usually come in the evening and today we came on Saturday @ about 8pm). The service is always outstanding. One of my favorite hangs on the island and some of my favorite Mexican food.

I was looking for ceviche on yelp and this place popped up. They had a couple of different options, you could even do a sampler, but I chose the spicy tuna ceviche. The description says "fresh ahi tuna marinated in lime, cilantro, avocado, and fresh jalapenos". All of those things were in there with some added tomatoes and what tasted like Cholula. Lots of Cholula. I love hot sauce, I think it just muted the flavor of the fish a bit. I also didn't taste any lime, but it came with limes and I fixed that. It was tasty, just not exactly what I expected. I also ordered the Caliente margarita and it hit the spot. It wasn't really sweet and had a kick. I sat on the patio and enjoyed the area. The server was nice. I would come here again and try the sampler next time.

    Chicken Tinga soft tacos

Went there for a late lunch after checking into my hotel. I was seated right away and they brought chips & salsa. There were two different salsas, one was a regular salsa and one was a creamy avocado salsa. They were both delicious. The server was very friendly and explained the happy hour margaritas and recommended one that was on the spicy side which I liked very much. I ordered the Chicken Tinga Tacos with rice & beans. The plate was huge. They were very good and I knew I would have leftovers for later. At one point a manager came over asking if everything was OK. I assured her it was. The service, drinks & food was excellent and at a very reasonable price. Whenever I'm in Galveston again, I will definitely be back. I highly recommend!

Rating: 3.5 stars I came here with a group of four around 3 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was around half full and we were lead to a cozy booth right away. We had two servers helping us that day, one who was working his first day and another experienced server. Both were so friendly and really took care of us throughout the meal. I was incredibly impressed with the service we were given throughout the meal. As soon as we sat down, we were handed a heaping basket of warm, straight-out-of-the-fryer chips and fresh salsas. Everything was so good, our group breezed through three baskets of chips by meal's end. We also ordered a QUESO to start with and it was so good. I've missed true Tex-mex Queso since NYC really cannot get it right. For the mains we split a few dishes between the four of us: -TAQUILO'S MIXED GRILL: I didn't try the chicken but that steak was so tender and flavorful. Additionally the heaping pile of onions on the bottom of the hot plate were so good and soaked up all of the flavor so well. -POLLO POBLANO PLATE: I love a good stuffed poblano pepper dish. The poblano pepper was well roasted and stuffed to the brim with marinated chicken. The chicken was very flavorful but a bit on the drier side unfortunately. The refried beans I ordered with the dish were absolutely perfect. Sometimes refried beans have a strange aftertaste but not these. These beans were perfectly cooked and soft. Absolutely wonderful flavor and my favorite part of the meal haha. The rice was just a tad undercooked but the flavor was good. - SHRIMP AND LOBSTER TACO: These are more of a pressed taco but flavor was just ok. Honestly, not my favorite and quite a small portion compared to the other dishes which were absolutely humongous. All in all, though not every dish was amazing there were still some that really stood out and left a great impression. Finally, compliments must be given for the amazing customer service interactions - they really make you feel at home.

    Happy hour until 7pm daily!

We enjoyed happy hour here, you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the people watching. You can sit inside a fun booth or bar top. Chips, red sauce, served warm, and a cool creamy jalepeno are the starters. We added queso it was tasty but not hot enough to be creamy. The service was lovely- she checked in but not bothersome. The decor was cute, festive and clean.

When you are in Galveston, you may not think of fajitas, but I do. Taquilo's off Post Office Street is the place on the island to go to. We've eaten here before and the quality of food and excellent service continues to be the best! From the chips and salsa to whatever you want to eat, will no doubt have you addicted. We had their famous Queso along with the other two different dips they bring with the chips. It was all good! For our meal, we had the beef fajitas. I'm not sure there is anyway you can top them. The meat is tender and full of flavor. I did have a "add on" of shrimp besos (bacon, jalapeño and cheese wrapped shrimp). They were good too. The margaritas will cool you off in this Hot Texas sun too. Yes, we were stuffed, but did try the crazy good sopapillas. Wow When in Galveston, go to Taquilo's! Go get Full

It opens at 8 am, so we waited around outside until it opened promptly. It has two main dining rooms, one of which was being used for the breakfast crowd. A basket of really good freshly fried thin tortilla chips were given with a decent salsa. We were given a breakfast menu, which had many things I wanted to try. 3 Barbacoa Tacos a la carte ($9.75) - a lot better deal than the plate (2 tacos with rice/beans/potatoes for $11.95). The tacos were good, decent size on a flour tortilla with cilantro, raw onions, and limes. It was decent quality shredded beef: moist and tender with good flavor. Menudo ($9.95) - only served on the weekend, this version was big with a ton of beef tripe (a lot more than there was hominy, which I'm not used to). I like tripe, but this amount was too much for me. The broth was flavorful and rich, and a good remedy for the little cold I had been fighting. Ended up finishing maybe half of it (ate all the hominy though). You pay at the front. Service was friendly throughout, and by the time we were leaving, the place was filling up. Parking is street, and there was plenty of it in the area.

Fish Company Taco proved to be like finding water in the desert. A lot of Galveston eateries are very similar, in that there's an ample amount of fried seafood on the menu, which is not exactly what you're looking for when you're in the bloated, but wanting to eat *something* state that we were in. My thought was: fish tacos are relatively light and we can walk there from our hotel - how do you beat that? What I didn't realize is that this place probably belongs more in the Heights than Galveston. And I mean that in a good way. The menu is very hipster-coded. And the food matches with hipster quality. It's hard to say what my favorite item even was. The one thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the fish dip - it was just okay. Everything else ranged from good to great. We tried... The burger: FYI, it's more like a double stacked slider than a burger, but delicious. 3 Tacos: Dirty South, Empire and Korean Flavors. I really liked the empire and the korean flavors, but thought the dirty south had a little too much going on with the pimento cheese and chips. Sticky Shrimp: I don't even know how to describe this, but it was delicious. I thought it as more like bang bang shrimp, but it was more fried that I expected. But not hardcore fried - they almost had the airy texture of fried pork skins, but were much tastier. Chili marinated Cucumbers and corn ribs: Simple, refreshing and addicting. But I liked the cucumbers a bit more. They also had some fresh juices and we enjoyed both the mango and the coconut lime concoctions. An easy 5-stars for me and a place I will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Galveston.
