Staying at Moody Gardens and didn't want to spend a car payment on breakfast so I asked one of the valets where a good breakfast taco place was in Galveston. When he hesitated to answer I let him know I grew up in Laredo and I was looking for local and good. He quickly recommended Los Lazos. He was right. I ordered three breakfast burritos for my family of 4.... And it was plenty. Two El Clasicos and one Super Burrito. On vacation and my wife wanted Mexican food. I am not a big fan, but found a cheeseburger there that was very good. Wife's chicken was a bit dry and the tortillas a bit hard. I would return for the burger, but wife will not return. Waitress nice, but not very attentive. Should of read reviews prior to us grabbing an early dinner. Not at ALL satisfying. The restaurant smelled old, chips are fried in lard, salsa was good, black bean dip good. Asked for water 3 separate occasions. Asked for silverware twice. Napkins twice. Our waitress was distracted but not with customers. We both ordered chicken enchiladas and YUK Tomato sauce with fake cheese. Beans and rice pretty good. We will never ever return. Visitors only to the island. Hopefully breakfast is good. read more

I never write bad reviews. It saddens me to write a negative review of a local restaurant but I feel it is necessary as I will certainly never return and never recommend this restaurant. There are far too many good quality Mexican food restaurants with excellent service on the island to return here for mediocre food and terrible service. Let's start with service. It was just awful. We sat and waited too long for chips and salsa to be served. At least a few minutes. I asked for water at least twice, maybe 3 times and we had to wait forever to receive it. One of the water cups had lettuce in it. Our chip basket was empty for a significant amount of time and we had to flag down the waitress to refill the chips and request more bean dip. There were three of us and we were given two sets of silverware. There were no extra napkins either so my husband and I shared a napkin because extras were never brought out. This was on a Wednesday at 5pm. There were 2-3 other tables seated, so being busy was not the issue. Staffing was not an issue, as there were several waitresses present. Okay, now to food. We ordered margaritas and they looked beautiful but tasted awful. They only offer on the rocks, which is fine. I wanted frozen but tried the rocks. They were sour and the flavor was off. Easily the worst margarita I've had. Two stars for food, otherwise this place deserves none. My tostadas were good. Simple, but good. The "guacamole" on the plates was just avocado with garlic in it. Kinda weird, but fine. One person with us had chicken tacos and the taco meat was severely over cooked and dry and bland. The fajita meat nachos were good. Not great, just good. The worst part of the entire experience was that I ordered a tostada plate. On the menu it says "ALL plates come with rice, beans, and 3 tortillas". Great, right? No. When I requested my tortillas I was told "tostada plate doesn't come with tortillas" I said "the menu says all plates" and was told "not that plate". Umm what? Maybe they should correct the menu, because "all" means "all". The tostada plate is a plate and listed on the page that says tortillas are included. At this point I was upset. She should have just brought out the tortillas instead of arguing with a customer. read more

Waste of money, don't go. The food was over priced and just average. The beans tasted like Trappy's beans with a can of jalapeños added. They are so stingy starting from the extra small bowl of chips with tiny cups of salsa. I asked for extra lemon with my 32oz iced tea and they brought me 2 slivers. I asked for more lemon and I was brought a plate with 2 slivers. I again asked for more lemon and was brought a plate with 1 sliver of lemon. Then I noticed that they charged me $1 for extra lemon on my bill. My mom got the supreme burrito which came with your choice of meat. Ground beef for &12.95, shredded chicken for $13.95or fajita for &14.95. Our server could not be bothered to ask which type she wanted, she wanted ground beef, so she just brought the beef fajita and charged more. With so many Mexican restaurants in Galveston there is no reason to go back to this sh*t hole. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant on Galveston island. Their food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. It's a local family owned restaurant. You can taste the love and effort that is put into the food. Everything I've ever tried here is really really good. They have Tex-mex, as well as traditional Mexican dishes, and great seafood options. Everything they have is worth trying. My parents love this place and stop by regularly. I was off work and on the island; had a delicious lunch with them here. Dad had told me good things about the Mexican hamburger. I tried it. Wow! A large fresh made beef patty, Monterrey jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and served with a side of waffle cut fries. I want to stop by and get another one soon. I followed it up with their flan for dessert. They make the best flan. Has a great thick and creamy consistency to it and just right on the sweetness. Love it! First time visit and we will be back. Love the black beans served with the chips and hot sauce when you arrive. Several reviews stated that the waitstaff was rude or not friendly. We found it to be just the opposite. Very friendly, attentive and prompt. They previously didn't have a liquor license, now they do. We had queso which was some of the best we have ever had. The quesadillas were also very good. Combination plate of crispy beef taco, shredded chicken chalupa and chicken fajita enchilada were also very good. Shredded chicken does need a little spice...it is fairly bland. That's reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. But will definitely return. read more

Was starving for lunch after my nail appointment this week and was craving some Mexican food! Decided to try out this place and I'm glad I did!!! Parking was easy when I went around one o'clock but not because it was slow! I was surprised to see lots of tables full of people enjoying lunch like myself. Seated right away and was brought a water and their house made chips and salsa. Loved the salsa and black bean type dip they served! Great amount of spice in the salsa and I'm a big fan of warm salsas so I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the crispy beef tacos and they were sooo tasty! Charro beans we're also very good. What is up with this place? The wife and I were driving by and decided to give the joint a try. Bad idea. The table was sticky. We should have left since there was hardly anyone there at 7:00pm for dinner. We decided to stay anyways and ordered nachos that came with 8 tortillas, beef, beans, lettuce, and real cheese. We received a pile of chips with grey beans and fajita beef covered in queso cheese. Asked for our correct order and the waiter brought us lettuce. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

This place is one of those hidden gems, you may normally pass up without a second thought. From the outside it might look like a hole in the wall, but I think that is so the locals can keep it for ourselves! This started out as a desperate decision made out of hunger and no desire to cook. It ended up being a really good decision. I found my new favorite Tex-Mex restaurant! Your dinner plate won't cost you an arm and a leg and they don't cheap out on the flavor or amount of food.. We got our meal to go so I was surprised when I realized our queso came in an actual to go cup. (Not a small container.) It wasn't just a regular cheese block and rotel type of queso, it had a delicious flavor too. YUM. I had cheese enchiladas. I always get them at a new place, because you can't go wrong with enchiladas. Next time I will probably order fajitas. My gf got the chicken quesadillas and they were HUGE! They had that delicious Mexican cheese inside too. The tortillas were fresh made. (Not anything just sitting under a heat lamp.) The only thing I didn't like were the sopapillas. They weren't crispy and had whip cream in the middle, so by the time it was time to eat them, the whip cream was running out into the bottom of the dessert, making it soggy. (Next time we just won't get any.) Queso, 2 dinners and a dessert for $30. It was worth every penny. I had really low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. read more

We discovered this hidden gem a few months ago. We have a lot of Mexican food on the Island but not many good ones. This place is always consistent and fresh. Today I got the Tex Mex tostados with beef fajita. They had just the right amount of toppings and the beef had a good flavor. Jason got the Classic enchiladas with beef. I don't ever order enchiladas cause I'm a sauce snob and don't like to be disappointed. I tried his and they were fantastic. We are also big Mole fans so we asked to taste the mole sauce. I discovered this hidden gem using Yelp... I'd driven past it hundreds of times without even noticing it. The guacamole was very creamy, not too many onions (which I approve of). The chips seemed commercial, but good. I'm a sucker for mole sauce... Spicy, rich, chocolaty... So I ordered chicken mole. Great! It came with fluffy rice and homemade tortillas and I had leftovers to take home. A chocolate flan cake was pretty good, too. Chocolate cake with a layer of flan on top. Also had leftovers of that. Tonight was our first time eating at Las Molcas. It is a cute little restaurant with an unassuming facade and interior. Silvia was our incredibly friendly server. All of the staff was helpful and nice. Las Molcas does not have a liquor license yet, but patrons are more than welcome to bring their own beverages. We opted for the bottled Mexican Coke. The menu is extensive and everything is made fresh each morning, including the corn and flour tortillas. The chips and salsa are quite good. We also tried the green sauce, which is spicy with a wonderful flavor. The queso is mild. My husband had El Supremo- he says it is very filling. He couldn't finish it...an uncommon occurrence. I had the Beef Fajita Chile Relleno, and I shouldn't have finished it! We spent $40 on 3 bottles of Mexican Coke, queso app, and two entrees. Excellent value. We probably would not have stopped in if it were not for the Yelp reviews, but we are so glad we did, and think you should, too. read more

Holy cow! The outside is not much to write home about but the food is amazing! They serve their salsa warmed-up, which I always have a soft spot for. Our party had crispy tacos, the beef fajita open face taquitos and a huge burrito - everything was delish. The queso is very good and a nice complement to the free salsa and black bean dip they provide with chips. The waitress was very sweet and very attentive.
