I called in a pick up order for Family size chicken fajita meal. The person that took my order was friendly and was told my order will be ready in a hour 20mins. I called at 11 am and got there at 11:30. I walked in and was not acknowledged. So I kinda moved towards the side of where the bartender was making drinks to wait til he was finished. Someone finally acknowledged me, one of the waiters on the floor. Mind you there were two ladies on the side by the kitchen that saw me walk in but was ignored and they went on with their conversation. The male waiter asked if I was picking up an order and I said yes, he then started getting the attention of the two ladies but they were ignoring him too (geez!) bartender then asked me what I ordered and he checked the status. He said it should be out shortly and he asked if I wanted a drink while I'm waiting for the food. He was really nice and apologetic that the order was taking a long time. 45 minutes later, my order is finally bagged. I get back to my office and when I was unloading my food, I noticed that the serving portion was super skimpy for the rice, chips, super small container of red and green sauce enough for just one person. The chicken fajita meal was supposed to be family size and feed 4-5 people for $57 and some change and the serving they gave me was definitely not for 4-5 people. I sent them a message via their website but did not hear anything back. Chicken fajitas were good- serving size again was definitely not for 4-5 people. Maybe if we put two small pieces of chicken on the tortilla then yes :/ the charro beans were delicious though. read more

While visiting Galveston for a few days, we ate at many local restaurants. While Jose's at Crystal Beach was by far the favorite, Taquilo's was a huge disappointment. Came in on a Sunday night with hardly anyone there. We were seated and over the next 5-10 minutes, we tried to find a server. Finally had to go to bar and ask if anyone was assigned to our table. The bartender found someone and we were able to order. Food was bland and service was lousy. $120 later (3 adults) we left discouraged and still hungry. Too many wonderful restaurants around the island to go here again. read more

So good we ate here twice!!! Our first visit was great... waitress was fantastic. Super attentive & stayed up on everyone. (Party of 4). She was a hard worker but I didn't catch her name. The food was fantastic! Flavorful! Memorable. We tried two other places in town during the course of the week... then drove an extra 20 minutes to come here again before leaving because the other two places couldn't hold a candle. In fact, after our first visit my mom & I had leftovers. Two days later, I converted those leftovers into a side dish with eggs for breakfast. It was STILL fantastic. Great fish tacos. After a long absence from Taquilo's we decided to go there Friday night. We did not eat there because there were people standing around waiting to get their name on a waiting list but the hostess couldn't even answer if there was a waiting list! I got the fish tacos, and my friend got the shrimp tacos. We both have had a lot of seafood at Galveston, and we were pleasantly surprised we could still be impressed by the tacos here. Just okay. Parking is limited in town but better than most in town places. The rice was good but that's about it. We were a group of 7 and hungry. Ordered 4 appetizers and never received two of them. The other two came after we received our meals We had to ask for chips and salsa after seeing all the other people getting some-no clue why we didn't. Two orders were incorrect and one was remedies and the other there was no offer to fix or even remove from our overall bill - disappointing. We had a very sweet young waiter and I almost think we were his first customers ever. He must of said he was sorry 10 times. There were other employees there sitting in a booth and they never offered to help this poor kid. It was a cluster mess. Bathroom was clean. Outside and inside seating available. Cool decor. I would not return if back in town. It's kind of hard to mess up Mexican food but I've had better and definitely had better service. read more

My mother and I are both shrimp taco connoisseurs and we were looking for a Galveston spot to add to our roster. We walked to Taquilo's Tex-Mex Cantina located on a very quaint art district strip of restaurants, a opera house, and a coffee shop. The restaurant is also located in walking distance of the Strand, so you can enjoy a lovely lunch/dinner and walk those calorie off by venturing to the Strand.The Strand is full of cute beach shops, yummy pastries, treasures, and the famous King's Candy and Ice Cream shop. Alas, onto the food and ambience.... 1. I give 5 stars for the open eating concept. Galveston can be very a humid, yet breezy city--and eating under a shaded patio was a nice place to people watch and enjoy some lunch. The streets were busy with tourists as well as locals walking their dogs. The restaurant had a indoor section, but we were greatly serviced by our waiter outside. He took care of our needs and the food came out very quickly. 2. Second, my mother and I both ordered the Tacos de Camarones. The dish came with three tacos made with the choice of flour or corn tortillas. The tacos had grilled shrimp,slaw, pico de gallo, cilantro, and chipotle aioli. The side was also refried beans or charro beans. Let me say this, IT IS ALOT OF FOOD! Oh, I forgot to say that you get complimentary chips and salsa red and verde. The verde tastes good on the tacos by the way. After munching on chips and dip and the food, I was stuffed. The flavor was tasty! I walked away feeling satisfied! I will say that the tacos was missing "something". But overall, I will rate a 5 out of 5! Total: For all of the food it came out to $16.00 which was worth every penny. I give the restaurant a five because of the lovely dining atmosphere, the food, sunny weather, and the service. Taquilo's Cantina will definitely be on my "return-to" list. read more

3 stars for the pollo poblano plate! It was decent but not filling at all. Very disappointed! Portion size was slightly small! The pollo poblano is essentially half a poblano pepper stuff with chicken tinga with cheese, gravy, tomatoes, and onions on top. It also came with retried beans and rice. I thought the rice was lovely and seasoned well. The beans were great too. My primary complaint is that the serving size was just too small. I had to stop by McDonalds to satisfy my belly. For the $14 price including tax, I expect more food! Service was great and there were tortilla chips and dips. for the table. Overall, not worth it! Located near the Historic Strand, Taquilos offers fair priced Tex-Mex and mixed drinks. I'm local and had tried to go to Taquilos in the past but parking and/or seating for my family of 6 was limited and we didn't want to wait. Finally we tried Taquilos without hassle for a random Wednesday lunch in April. The atmosphere is clear, colorful, and vibrant. Service was friendly and attentive. Menu was easy to navigate. Food was delicious and delivered promptly. We were in and out well fed in less than a lunch hour. Overall I enjoyed Taquilos and will be back. read more

Great service by Michelle! She was very attentive and tried her best to make everything perfect for us. We don't recommend the spinach enchiladas. They are pretty dry. Love your food. And use to come once per week. But get rid of ASAP delivery. They charge absolutely ridiculous fees. I've gone on several times to order and 2 meals and some queso is $90 freaking dollars. I just cancel the order and move on. There is like almost $20 in ASAP fees and other service charges. Refried beans were very thin and watery. Saw a sign for a Pineapple Express drink so I ordered it and was told they stopped selling that some time before. Bummer! Was told they had other drinks but never got a drink menu. Our waitress seemed new. Restaurant was cold inside. Husband got the ceviche sampler. Too much avocado and tomato for his taste. my boyfriend & I decided to have Mexican for lunch today. we are actually from Illinois, but are in Galveston for vacation. Our waitress was really friendly & was very on top of things. Not that the food wasn't good, it was just very different from home. The queso cheese we're used to is the "white queso." Here, it's more of a yellow. I just assumed that they created their own homemade queso. I ordered a cheese quesadilla & cheese rice. My boyfriend ordered steak nachos with queso cheese. When our food was brought out, my rice just had shredded cheese on top. I guess I should've been more specific about it having "queso" cheese on top. Not shredded. My boyfriends nachos also came with shredded cheese, not queso like he asked for. Other than that, the employees seem very friendly.
