This is a divey but delicious Mexican restaurant that I grew up going to in Galveston. I have not been here in many years, and I heard that the food was still good. I decided to try it out. The service is friendly, but don't come in a hurry because only 2 people are serving the whole restaurant. This is t the kind of place you should be in a rush at anyways. The breakfast plates and burritos are fantastic, so take your time and enjoy. On this visit I had the barbacoa plate. I am always cautious ordering barbacoa because the meat can be too fatty and unenjoyable. Their barbacoa was perfect. Tender, juicy, and meaty. The food here is amazing. Their breakfast is home made and served by Latin abuelitas. The service is, you walk in, grab your menus and sit wherever you want. One of the ladies will attend to you quickly. If you order coffee, it's a bottom less cup. The ambiance is a literal hole in the wall place. They were open for Mardi Gras just selling a small menu for the awaiting parade goers. I had seen someone with a Turkey leg and asked the patron where she got it from, she pointed down the street. I walked 2 blocks and finally found this at the street corner of Ball and Rosenberg St/25th St. They had huge Turkey Legs and we had to have one! I have been coming here for 26 years and La Estacion has never let me down. It is not fancy, new, or updated, but what it lacks in visuals it makes up for in their food and their prices. My wife and I love this place so much we even had a huge breakfast there the day after our wedding. If you are a tourist, this probably isn't the place for you. Worst food I have had in Galveston as a 5 year resident. Chips were stale (chewy) (even after asking a second time for fresher chips), salsa wasn't much more than crushed tomatoes and had no flavor. Lunch menu tacos and chicken mole dish were almost both inedible. Flour tortillas were good, but not worth the flop on the rest of the food. Throughout the year, I've been trying out different burrito places around Galveston and this one is my favorite (along with Broncos)! I ordered the Migas burrito. Like the other burritos I've had, this one was just as big (maybe even tad bigger). While almost every place I've been to used freshly made tortillas, this one somehow tastes even better (think buttery, soft with a little crisp to it). Inside were eggs, migas (fried tortilla chips), jalapeños, tomatoes, and onions. All tasted delicious with the tortilla, especially the chips. The downsides: The service was a little slow, but very friendly. Also, I think the tortilla chips/salsa they serve at the beginning are better at some of the other places. I tried La Estacion for breakfast based on the Yelp recommendations and was blown away. I ordered a surprise burrito (bacon/egg/cheese/bean/fries) and a chorizo/egg/cheese burrito. Both were excellent but the surprise burrito was the clear winner. Let me just say that these things are huge. The tortillas were the best I've tasted, the filling was delicious, and the salsa was some of the best I've had. Oh and their use of french fries for potatoes is brilliant. Unfortunately, since I got my order to-go, I didn't really get a chance to take in the atmosphere. But trust me, if you're in Galveston, you NEED to try La Estacion. read more
