Indulging my newfound passion for Birria tacos, I found this place on a list of Austin's best, so I went for lunch on this warm and windy December day. The setting is fun, a parking lot across from Chinatown Center on North Lamar. There's easy parking and covered tables. Service was friendly and presented no challenge to my limited Spanish. I was there for the Birria Tacos, and liked that he asked how many I wanted. Other places have had a set plate of three. I ordered two. I like the consommé I've had for dipping on the side of previous tacos, so I asked for a small. For a drink, a Topo Chico. The menu posted was tattered and torn, with no posted prices, but at a taco truck, I figured it wouldn't be much. The tacos were tasty. The flavor was deep and complex, the cheese nicely gooey. I wished the outside had been grilled to a crisp like I've had at other places, but it was no big deal. The side of consommé was bigger than the tiny dip I was used to, about the size of a small coffee cup, and full of tasty chunks of meat and onion. I was pretty pleased with my lunch. But the bill was a surprise. 21 dollars!? Turns out the tacos were $4 each, which is fine. My "side" of consommé was a hefty $8. More than I bargained for, but I took most of it home and it will make a light lunch. But $5 for a bottle of Topo Chico? Yikes! I got a pretty good lunch, and learned a very good lesson. If the prices aren't posted--ASK!!

Revolting. WHY ARE YOU NOT EMBARRASSED!!! Disgraceful. I spent $100+ here giving them multiple chances but won't be back again. If you don't have eggs today, just say so. Or are they just getting by on people who come once and never return? Paid $10 (plus tip) for 3 Migas tacos that were 95% fake velveeta-style cheese with specks of egg and tortilla chips for decoration and a solid mass of what ever that cheese product is made of. No joke there could not have been even one whole egg split among the 3 tacos, maybe 1/2 an egg literally on the top to partially disguise the cheese. Which visibly resembles shredded Mexican velveeta not entirely melted in spite of asking for un poco dorados. Thanks for returning the $10 tho. Won't be back. Another day, spent $20 for 5 tacos, the 3 chicken tacos had 1.5-2 oz. of meat to be generous each and 50% or more was whole chunks of boiled chicken skin.

First time to stop here and I've been passing it even before they had moved here. I picked up the birria tacos and dear god they were great. Full of flavor and the consume for dipping was also great and flavorful. I definitely plan to try some of their other food. I downed one taco before I took a picture.

Don't walk, run to this food truck! You know it's legit when the menu is only pictures and you're trying to guess half of it. If you had to only order one item, you have to try their birria tacos : grilled crispy outer cheese shell, gooey melted cheese and birria meat inside. Their consommé was tasty and had deep infused flavors. My husband tried their beef cheek and chicharron tacos as well, just as delicious. We officially found the best birria tacos in Austin and will be back often!

Our empty stomachs and cash-filled pockets were ready for a taco truck crawl down North Lamar today. But we got blissfully stuck at our first stop, Taquito Aviles! Mario, the delightful owner, recommended the goat tacos with an accompanying goat stew. We also got beef enchiladas with Chile con carne, elote from the gods, and a fish taco. Elote and goat stew, is my new last meal before I die or the meal I could eat everyday for the rest of my life. This glimpse into heaven is soulful, delicious and accepts credit cards.

Felt like tacos yesterday so I visited for the first time in awhile. We ordered 5 Birra Tacos with Queso, 2 small cups of Consume and a Can of Coke which came out to $24. The food was delicious! My daughter later decided to try their Pineapple Aguas Fresca and that was amazing.

The owner greeted me right away and he was so kind, while I was waiting I got to try the #20 & my white taste buds were shot to cloud 9! He's got some great recipes and the family that was having dinner there would agree, the kiddos seemed to like the food & neighborhood cats in the area (as did I). I tried the Birria Tacos here and OH MY GOSH I have not stopped thinking about them. They were so yummy and the service was great! The food truck is run by the sweetest man and he was so kind!! This place is amazing and you definitely need to try it if you're in Austin!

I love this place. The owner is so nice and every time my husband and I come here, we are NEVER disappointed with the quality of the food! It is very fresh and delicious; truly authentic! I love their chicken chalupa's, and my husband's favorite is their Consume de chivo (a goat stew that tastes like it's been slow-cooking all day!) Their chorizo taco is crispy and delicious. We also ordered their Chicken enchilada plate, and the green sauce that is poured over the enchilada's is the best green sauce I think I have ever tasted! Their beans and rice are also on point. Ok, so, This truck moved from its prior location next to a perfectly nice palm-tree-themed ghetto car wash, which is now a shiny new 7-Eleven (which I think is trying to take over Austin). It is now tucked behind the porn shop on Braker and Lamar. This is why, around the house anyway, I call this place the porn shop taco truck. The food is good. The price is good. The guy who runs it is great. I like it here. Everything is delicious. He makes his own corn tortillas. I don't know about the flour tortillas. But a taco truck that makes its own tortillas without also making the food all goofy and trendy is legit as far as I'm concerned. I recommend the place. But, there's a bonus. If, while you wait for your food, you feel the need for a DVD or some kind of adult oriented novelty, well... There is that convenience. I'm not one to judge. You can call your order in. I suggest it's a good idea so you don't have to sit out in the heat wearing a face mask and staring at your fellow plague survivors. But, the number on this yelp listing is incorrect as of right now. The number one in the prefix should be a number seven. In the pictures of the exterior, the bars on the windows block part of the number, but the incorrect number is clearly visible so... I'm sure you can do the math and put it together. instead of 512-51 something, it's 512-57 something. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch and enjoyed a shrimp taco and a chicken quesadilla. The tortilla was light and flaky and the overall flavor superb. The shrimp taco was delicious--super fresh and with a nice kick. Service was friendly and the space very clean. Give this spot a try! read more

This place was by far the most delicious authentic Mexican food I've had in Austin and to be honest in Texas! The consomé de chivos was outstanding! Truly Netflix worthy food !! Yes yes yes. Stop at this perfect little taco spot. I went here after a recommendation from an Instagram account I follow (@Austinfoodadventures) and wow I wish I would've went sooner. The goat birria tacos and the consome are life changing, I wish I would've gotten 10 of them to be honest. Crisp and fresh corn tortillas with the most perfectly melted cheese and meat. Heavenly. We also got the shrimp enchiladas which were great but next time we will be 100% just getting all the magical perfectly cooked tacos. Ooo and get the elote. TREAT YO SELF. We picked it up in the evening on a Friday and there was only one other couple there with masks on picking up. Felt very safe! The men behind the counter working were really friendly and kind! A little tucked away, but amazing, authentic Mexican food. Homemade corn tortillas, incredible consume de chivo and tacos. Horchata was crazy good but very rich and sweet. I'll be going back and taking friends. I grew up in very south Texas and have been desperately searching for anything that tastes remotely like home. This is the place. Taquito Aviles is currently located on the southeast corner of N. Lamar and Braker Ln., between the auto insurance place and the Palms Carwash. Let's break it down. - easy adjacent parking - friendly and easy to talk to gal at the window - breakfast tacos available even at 1pm (How can places stop selling them at 10:30 on a Sunday when I haven't even gotten out of bed?) - 3 tasty tacos, each with abundant ingredients - little containers with the classic red and green sauce stuffed in my bag - wallet only five bucks lighter - driving away five minutes after I got there with my to-go order I think I saw credit card logos, but as usual (when I have cash) at small businesses like this, I try and use cash and save them the service charge. It was a Sunday, so I just parked at the closed-on-Sunday pharmacy next door, because at first I couldn't see how to get there (turn into the auto insurance parking lot facing Lamar, and go to the back of the building around the Braker side to find the rocky parking area). My potato/egg/cheese was great. Potato was cubed, which I prefer to shredded in a taco, but just a hair underdone. The goat (they call it "chivo", so I guess it's a slightly older goat than "cabrito") was also excellent. Though they did load on with more cilantro than I usually like (at least they don't skimp!). I also tried a bean and cheese, which I often do as a test for their beans, and I really liked the flavor, though the beans were a little drier than I like. I got all three on flour ('de harina'), because I like to shame my ancestors. The tortillas might or might not have been house-made, but they certainly were good enough that I really didn't care either way. Amy C and Victoria S did a great job posting food pics, so I didn't bother taking any (i.e I scarfed it down before I remembered to take any pics). It's a pretty broad menu (though they don't seem to have lengua), plus horchata and other aguas frescas. And the menudo slurping crowd seemed to be as happy as I was, sitting at the covered tables. 4.43 stars read more

The tacos here are so good with their handmade corn tortillas and delicious salsas. The chicharron was recommended by the owner and is now one of my favorite tacos with the nice crispy chunks of pork skin. But the real star is the consome de chivo, or stewed goat served in broth. It comes with corn tortillas, cilantro, and onions so you can make your own tacos or dip the tortillas in the broth. There are only a few places in town that serve this or jalisco style birria so this place is really special. The horchata is also amazing (we think they blend it with ice!) They now have a second location up off of North Burnet too! read more

My favorite taco truck! Mario that runs it is always smiling and very pleasant. My favorite are the shrimp, fish, and shredded chicken tacos in that order. I usually order a bunch of each for the whole family. The homemade sauces are to die for and I love the habanero sauce. It's just the right amount of spice. The charro beans can be a meal in and of itself with big chunks of non fatty bacon pieces. If you like tacos please check this place out! read more

Outhouse restroom, no running water inside trailer, gravel dining area floor, junkyard seating; but wonderful authentic "Norteno" style tacos, taquitos, posole, etc! This stand is tucked away I'm so lucky we found it the food was so flavorful, fresh and full of flavor , and the staff was very welcoming.Tried the Consome de Chivo and it was something I had never had , it was amazing ! OUTSTANDING SERVICE & SUPERB EATS! This was my 1st time trying Taquito Aviles & I did so because of raving reviews. I was welcomed & assisted with ordering by the super friendly owner I read about, & he didn't disappoint. It's abundantly clear he cares for his customers & business, so I had no doubt the quality of food would be as expected. WOW , IT WAS BETTER ... EVERYTHING WAS QUALITY, FRESH, & HOMEMADE. I had a couple of chicken nachos & they were "on point". It started with homemade chips that were the perfect thickness for nachos. Every chip was perfectly layered with beans, cheese, & the chicken was thick quality strips. The guacamole was the best I can ever remember trying. The chicken enchilada, beans & rice on the combo plate was great. The chicken taco was seasoned to perfection & just juicy enough to savor in my mouth but not so much that is made the homemade tortilla soggy. This Man/ Owner/ Business knows how to handle business well, & during a time when so many others have lost sight of small yet important details, such as friendly service, or more importantly, quality ingredients & product. It's not often one can sit & write a PERFECT review nowadays for service & quality. This place not only received one from me today, he has many. Well worth trying, I highly recommend it. read more

ordered enchiladas verdes and birria tacos. the enchiladas given were cheese enchiladas (didn't notice until i was home unfortunately). cheese enchiladas were way too cheesy to even enjoy. birria tacos had yellow cheese inside? different than standard mozerella/oaxacan which made them taste off. on top of that was overpriced! read more

We've been here several times, and every time we've been the guy (I assume the owner), is so kind and the food is incredible! Great tacos, corn tortillas are thick and soft, they don't need to be doubled up. Chicken, pork and breakfast tacos with bacon and potato were all really good and fresh with thick, tender chunks of meat. Great salsa bar too. read more

2.5 stars. I really wanted to like this place, and I think it has potential, but they are cutting corners. Everything with cheese (flautas, birria tacos, etc) used American cheese, or something similar, which really didn't taste good. For us, it ruined the experience. The consumme was good, and they gave us a little sampler of the goat soup with hominy that was outstanding! I was a little shocked that 3 tacos de birria, 1 consumme, 2 tacos al pastor, 1 order of flautas, and a limonada was $41. Overall, considering what else is nearby, this is a pass for us. read more

Coming from San Antonio, it's oddly hard to find some AMAZING Carne Asada tacos, but this place is close!!!! The meat was tender, flavorful, and delicious. I like the grilled onions and cilantro... The owner was so sweet knowing it was my first time and three in an Al Pastor Taco, which was amazing also. Over all really great, just needs some tweaks like: queso fresco!!!! read more

Not only was the food terrible and literally dripping in grease when the lady told me my total I gave her my card so I can pay and when it was time to sign she had charged me more than what the original price was. I hope they aren't doing that to anyone else. If you go here keep a close eye on your payment with them. If you had them more than a few months ago and decide to go back the quality is definitely not what it used to be. read more

I recently visited the food truck Taquito Aviles with high hopes of indulging in some tasty tacos. I'm giving them 3 stars for the less than average customer service. The birria tacos did not disappoint; their tacos were bursting with flavor and had a delightful blend of spices that left my taste buds satisfied. However, my experience was dampened by the terrible customer service. There were no other customers, but I waited at the window without being acknowledged. I had to pound the bell repeatedly. The staff seemed disinterested and lacked basic courtesy, which made the overall dining experience less enjoyable. Despite the delectable tacos, the poor customer service left a lasting negative impression, and I'm hesitant to return to the truck in the future. In summary, Taquito Aviles offers mouthwatering tacos that are worth trying, but be prepared for a disappointing encounter with their customer service. Went after church for lunch. The Torta was excellent, fresh fluffy light bread full of meat and avacados. The Quesadilla was very good also. The salsa was fresh. I thought the chicken enchiladas had a bit too much cheese topping though (which I consider an American touch and not authentic Mexican). The Aguas Frescas were very tasty and cups served in were very large, at $3 a portion worth every penny. I had the Watermelon and Cantaloupe. The staff was speedy and courteous. I would go again just for the Aguas Frescas alone. They have several flavors and I intend to go through them all. I read more
