Every Friday during Lent no meat is allowed and while my friend choked down on some good beef, I decided to get the fish burrito. One word: HORRIBLE! The fish had no flavor, way too salty, and it was too fishy for my appetite however I was hungry so I sufficed. Unfortunately no amount of salsa could cover up the bad taste even though the salsa itself was amazing. This place also has a very weird set up! It's suppose to be restaurant, but it looks like a typical Mexican food place where you go up to the counter and order food then find a place to sit. The waitress was very nice although it was hard trying to flag her down when it came time for the check and there were no other customers. Completely dead! The salsa was really good too! First of all this place is not on WASHINGTON AVE lol it's on E Valley Parkway! Went here a few weeks ago for some mariscos. The husband ordered a burrito plate and I tried a taco and shrimp ceviche. The Carne asada had absolutely no flavor at all, the shrimp tostada was the bomb! This place was very empty with 4 patrons, men sitting at the bar. They have a juke box and they were playing some pretty loud carnival music, we had already ordered so I endured the agony of listening to it. This place is more like a cantina than a Mexican Grill. One of the waitresses was wearing a super tight low cut yellow tshirt with daisy dukes and cowboy boots, I thought were at the latin version of Hooters lol No I'm not jealous, just saying lol THe other gal was dressed with tight clothes but she was covered up. It's also CASH ONLY, I can see why the men hover over and hang out for a long time. *First off this place is on Valley Parkway now* In a city where there is a Mexican food place every 20 ft, this place definitely belongs near the top of the list. They have that real "Mexican" flavor that is so hard to put your finger on but is just delicious. On top of that their prices are super cheap for what you get. A full carne asada plate is like $6. Also, randomly, this place has a full bar. Not a completely full bar, min you, and the waitresses are definitely not trained bartenders, but they will happily make you a $6 (!) Patron margarita. All in all the place really feels like something just south of the border. There is spanish music playing on the jukebox, and the decor/organization is just a little off. But for people like me who love authentic, they knock it out of the park. read more

We just moved right next to here, which is nice because if we get a little carried away with their wide selection of tequila, we could walk home pretty easily. Their menu is indeed in Spanglish, but I've found the waitresses/bartenders to be very friendly and have a good command of both the English and Spanish languages. If you're not sure what to get (because you can't read the menu or otherwise), you can't go wrong with their $4 burritos. If you're extra hungry (the burritos are already huge), for something like $2 more you get rice and beans, which are actually really delicious! We almost always pay the extra for the rice and beans, and just end up with some to take home. This is, by far, our favorite burrito place outside of San Diego. It's also one of the only places that will give you Sour Cream on your burrito (maybe that's a Gringo thing? Did I mention the extensive tequila selection? Very impressive. They also televise all the important sports games, and even have a few flat-screen TVs outside you can watch. One of my very favorite places in the entire North County. read more

Ok. The place I'm talking about is on the corner of East Valley Parkway and Rose. The address Google gives is 1620 East Valley Parkway. I know it's the same place because of the photo. One Google reviewer actually claims he added it to maps just so he could caution others. This place is really pretty bad. The chips are homemade, fresh, and free (= 1 star) but they're not very good: overcooked with no salt, and the salsa is bland. The music inside is WAY TOO LOUD. We moved outside. They have a full bar. I don't know how the drinks are. My tacos al pastor were okay: a good deal at $1.50 each, but my friend had the carne asada and the meat was pretty tough and flavorless. The beans were runny and the rice had no flavor. He was not pleased. A nearby table had a shrimp cocktail (camarrones) that looked good. The waitress forgot about us for about ten minutes when it came time to bring the bill. I think we could have left, but we're not like that. The place looks like it is in the middle of a major remodel, with boxes on the floor in the kitchen area. One plus: the bathroom was extremely clean and smelled faintly of bleach. This place has a really cute outdoor patio with umbrellas and palm trees...they could really do great business with a nice happy hour, a decent sound system, margaritas, free appetizers, etc. read more

I have not had many dishes, but the ones that I have had are really GOOD!! The tostada de ceviche de camaron is amazing. I usually order only one because they pack it with so much shirmp that you get the equivalent of two tostadas. The carne asada plate is also very good. The food is really cheap compared to other places. You also have to try their Micheladas- you can have it made with whatever type of beer you like, I dont think that the beer makes too much of a difference, they all taste good! Take CASH! This is not really a taco shop, but not really a sit down place either....It has an almost funky vibe to it...A sort of mash between a Latin Hooters Sports Grill type place and a Taco Shop...Hmmmm. Their "street tacos" are the best in town though. And at $1 each you can't go wrong. If you are a full blooded gringo like me you may find the loud mariachi music and semi English speaking staff a bit intimidating..But do not let that deter you. I quickly learned enough Spanish to get the Al Pastor tacos and Modelo flowing! Best tacos hands down! read more

This place is always fun. They have taco plates from $2.99 and Carne Asada for $3.99, but go to the mariscos side of the menu. Their camarones and fish plates are very good for between $7 and $13 for the most part. There was karaoke on this Saturday night. Most everybody who goes here is most 1st generation Mexican, but that's one reason you know it's good. The waitresses and bartenders are great. Tequila is $6 and imported beers are $2.59. And, it's on Valley Pkwy and not on Washington, as someone else has stated. When the weather gets warmer, it's a great spot for dinner (it was a little chilly outdoors tonight and the karaoke was so loud that indoors wasn't a great option. Good for parties of 4 to 6. Stopped by to check this place out because I always see people here. Read no reviews beforehand. Went inside expecting to get seated, instead had to walk up to the bar and ask the lady working there because she obviously wasn't moving. I told her we'd like to sit outside please and she responded in Spanish. I asked if she spoke English because I don't speak Spanish and again she responded in Spanish...not that big of a deal, just a lil disappointing. So I pointed outside and took the menus she HANDED ME! Walked outside to find seats and got stuck at the high tops next to the grill because the only table available was not clean. This place is hard to review. First, I go in and order a margarita to have while ordering take out. The lady who tended to me was super sweet, but barely spoke English - which is probably a good thing. You can have a mango margarita or lime. I chose mango and it didn't disappoint. But before she served it, she let me know they only take cash. So I had to walk to the gas station next door and use the ATM (and pay $2.50 more than I planned to). Paid for the meal with two twenties and they couldn't make change. So I found a five. If you only accept cash, have plenty of change, please. She didn't understand when I told her the order was to go, but I said it again when she brought me napkins. Planned to reheat for dinner. The menu is not for us gringos. I had to start googling things. I wanted prawns. But the prawns are like crawdads where you have to work hard to get the meat out. You don't end up with very much. My meal is very small for $12.99. I'd say try it again if you've been there before or are going for the first time ; It's under New management and what I had was Fantastic . I really didn't like this place. We sat outside and the waitress didn't even acknowledge is until a while. We ordered Carne Asada Tacos and although they didn't take long teo get to us they were really greasy and full of fat. When we waited for our tab we called the lady like 5 times and we were told to wait and after 10 to 15 minutes we finally got it. The music is so loud you can literately feel your ear drums pop. The security guard wouldn't take his eyes off of us las if we were going to leave without paying. read more
