Tara robbed me blind..... Well let me start off by saying my rating has nothing to do with the service I was given... the lady who did my eyebrows was nice & attentive to what I had asked her to do. There was nothing especially great about her job, but there was also nothing wrong. I'm a semi-new customer at Tara's, meaning I've been here once or twice for an eyebrow threading.. the reason I say this is because I remember how much things cost. I am a college student and money isn't just something I blow off.. As it's a limited resource for me. I asked the lady when I was done how much I owed her. Her response was something that is still resonating with me..... $22 DOLLARS. $22 F*%#*** DOLLARS?!?!? I've never paid even close to that for a service and I've gotten my eyebrows done at a TON of places. & I'm not a cheap ass. I still can't get over this. I've been robbed. Lol. Just wow. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I wanted to talk to someone about what it is and what they do. (No, really, what is it that you do, exactly?) Although I don't feel like I really got answers, I decided to go ahead and try it out. It really is a weird feeling. I had to make her stop at one point because my eye started watering. I'm sure she thought I was a total baby about it. But, I agree, there is something scary about having hot wax near your eyes. I may or may not go back. I went here for an eyebrow threading / mini-facial. I made an appointment but when I showed up at the time they said I would have to wait and were very rude about it. I had to be somewhere right after so this was really irritating. The woman who worked on me never said a word to me. They did an average job. I've had way better. Today I discovered that they have a "cart" downstairs where they do threading for cheaper than in the store. What a ripoff if you'd already had it done in the store! BEWARE!! I won't be back. Sometimes I'm really glad that I don't listen to all the whiny reviews on yelp, b/c I thought this place was great. Tara herself took my appointment. It was basically painless and definitely less pain than any waxing/tweezing I've ever had. There was no wait. It is more pricey than a waxing at a cheap salon but I personally thought it was worth it for a variety of reasons. I've had my eyebrows threaded here a few times. It's ridiculously overpriced for the 5 minute eyebrow threading I get- she's seriously that quick. Pros: Quick, my eyebrows are shaped better than I can do myself, and I'm able to maintain the shape well with tweezing so I only get them threaded every few months. Cons: I think it hurts a lot. I manage to forget how much between visits or I probably wouldn't go back. I feel like the woman who works here maybe isn't as "clean" about it as she could be if she didn't work so fast. I always leave with eyebrows in my eyes and my eyes watering. Make sure you have a few hours with nothing important to do because there's redness and swelling around your eyebrows. Verdict: I'm actively looking for something better in Austin but every place with threading has bad reviews and since I haven't had a terrible experience here I keep coming back. read more

First let me say that it is a shame that there are not more places offering eyebrow threading in Austin. In Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, etc., you can get eyebrow threading for around $8. Tara's actually has two locations in Barton Creek Mall...a storefront and a kiosk. The kiosk offers threading for $15. The storefront offers threading for $20....same threading and same business, but different price. When I discovered this price difference, I asked for my $5 back from the ladies working at the storefront. They rejected my request and told me to take it up with the owner....nice. The first time I came for a threading was a result of purchasing a "groupon" for the service. It was a good experience. The second time I paid full price....I felt like my eyebrows were being ripped from my face. The next day I had bruises and scabs on my eyelids. To be honest, I don't know whether I'll be back or not. read more

Worst experience of my life. I got eyelash extensions from Mira at the Barton Creek location. She was talking to the other beautician the whole time and kept jabbing me in the eye. She applied the glue directly to my skin and had multiple eyelashes glued together. It was crunchy and in clumps and it hurt like hell. The next morning when I woke up, my right eye was blood red. On my left eye, I had a scab above the eyelashes where the glue had pulled some of my skin off, along with three or four of my natural lashes. I went to the eye doctor to get it checked out and discovered that I had a CORNEAL ABRASION from where she carelessly poked my eye. I'm now taking prescription antibiotic eye drops so that I don't end up with CONJUNCTIVITIS, in case her instruments weren't sterile. I called twice and left a message but nobody got back to me. I finally got an answer and was told to come in so they could inspect my eyelashes. I went to the salon the next day and Mira told me that it wasn't her fault, and that someone else must have pulled my eyelashes out. (Um, what?) When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that they were out of town and could not be reached for another month. It was only when I threatened a civil lawsuit that she picked up the phone and called... and when she got off the phone, she told me that she didn't know how to give a refund. Are you serious?! I've done eyebrows here before and that was fine, but after this experience, I will absolutely not be going back. read more

I went here today and had my eyebrows done by Tara. Place was cute, clean, and had comfy chairs. Tara was so sweet, professional, and does excellent work! I have INCREDIBLY sensitive skin and I'm a baby when it comes to physical pain. When Tara did my eyebrows, I didn't feel any pain!! I was slightly red, but it went away right after 10 minutes. She also beautifully sculpted my eyebrows. It's important to me that I look and feel beautiful, which Tara helped me achieve today :) For everyone complaining about the price, just imagine how expensive it is to rent a store at Barton Creek Mall. That's why prices are high!!! Your low reviews/complaints are JUST on the price, not the amazing work Tara does. Have been a regular here for about 18 months. I loathe malls, but I'll brave the mall for this place. The ladies here are all kind and very professional. It's true the fee is a little higher than some other places but the store is nice and much preferable to a chair in the middle of a mall or a kiosk at a supermarket. Honestly, I would rather pay the extra and have these ladies work on my brows and know it's going to look good than risk a disaster simply for less $. Tara and her team always remember a face and greet you with genuine smiles when you arrive. Don't be discouraged if you see a line, the staff here are methodical, talented and really work hard to make the best of your features. I have always been really pleased with service here, on one occasion when my face was too tender for the lip threading I had to ask Tara to stop midway. Tara charged me only for the brows, which were fine as always and simply didn't charge me for the lip threading - even though I was the one who asked her to stop because of my own discomfort/tenderness. As another review stated, most of the low reviews are based on the $22 fee, not the quality of service. Which is a disservice to the staff at Tara's, $22 plus tip will seem great value once you see what they can do for your face. read more

I don't know anything about eyebrows. My little sister has an obsession with nice eyebrows, and she seems to be a big fan of mine. One time I went back home to visit the family and sitting at dinner, she blurts out "you have perfect eyebrows." Weird, but endearing. I've never had to shape them or had to put hot wax on my face, but I don't want to be a cavewoman so I have strays threaded. That's all I need, and that's what I tell Tara (or whoever is working at the kiosk), and that's what I get. I wish I could do 3.5, because I've seen the price go from $11 to $16 in the last year alone, and they've done away with the frequent threader cards, which is lame cause I would have had two free ones by now.It hurts, yes, but its the good hurt and I'm okay with three minutes of pain for eyebrows I guess look perfect to my baby sis. read more

Just popped in to get a quick blow out. I usually go to the dry bar in the domain which cost $35-45 with the tip. They also offer champagne or some type of beverage during your service. I was not expecting the same level but I was shocked to pay $60 for a blowout. (I have shoulder length hair) I also say in their brochure that a haircut was $50. I feel very taken advantage of. Not to mention I was insulted while receiving my service from the hairdressers rude demeanor. Do not go here. Hopefully a better business will take its place. read more

I have been threading my eyebrows since I was 15 years old (I am now 27) and I have never had a worse experience threading in my entire life. First of all, I have been threading for 12 years and I have never had it hurt so bad in my entire life. I now have 3 cuts around my eyebrows. Tears were pouring out of my eyes (this never happens) and she had to keep pushing my face back as my reflexes were forcing me to move away. Secondly, they didn't have their prices visible anywhere. Granted, I should have asked, but I never would have even imagined it being so pricey. In Dallas I spend $4-$12 depending on where I go. She charged me $36 for my eyebrows and upper lip! The first time I went to Tara's I had a horrible expirience. The woman who did my eyebrows ruined the shape and made them totally uneven. I also was unable to use my American Express, and so I had my boyfriend pay for the charge. A year later my brows were looking pretty wicked so I returned to the salon. The first thing the woman does is tell me that I had not paid for my services last time I was in. This was news to me. I insisted that I did pay and she proceeded to do my eyebrows but not before making a rude comment about me to the other employee in the store. I go to pay for my service this time and she tells me she is going to charge me twice for this time and the last time, insisting that I didn't pay. She does this in front of her other employee as well as the other customers in the store. I'm getting a little aggravated at this point and tell her that I in fact did pay and I would not be paying for the "last time" I was in. She was extremely rude and embarassed me in front of her customers and employees. Needless to say, I will NEVER return to Tara's. PS. I get my brows done in Houston for $7. She charges $22. Yes, this place is a little pricey hence the 4 stars. I just moved from out of state and my regular salon was $14 for eyebrows. This place for eyebrows is $22+...note the "+" because I think that's sneaky! Kinda ridiculous. Anyways I am very crazy about my brows and who I let thread them. We came across this place at the mall (tucked in the corner next to Nordstrom) and I just knew this would be my place. It had that vibe, and the look on those ladies' faces was pure business. You don't want to be threaded in a nice hip salon by an employee fresh outta beauty school. This place is the real deal and all they do, all day everyday, is thread and wax. In case you're a newbie I will explain...Its the real traditional threading experience: me telling them "I only want a cleanup," they nod yes, I am sitting in the chair questioning in my head "did they actually understand me? Omg what will my face look like??" Then they begin, your eyes are watering, they're moving your hands to hold your lids taught in different places, hair is being plucked out by a thread manipulated by their teeth, mascara smeared all over, scissors are busted out, now they're straight up cutting your brows!, then they "clean up" your face with rose water, and hand you a mirror. You look at yourself and almost tear up because you look SO beautiful! I don't know how the hell these women do it, but they are on. point. Yes, it's slightly painful (take some Advil beforehand) but once you consistently go the hair stops growing back. And it's such a cleaner shape to your brow. And it lasts longer. I guess I could hunt for a cheaper place. In the end, I don't have a unibrow, and my brows don't look like tiny fish hooks. Well worth the $22+ vs. finding out a cheaper salon sucks the hard way. read more

I have been getting my eyebrows done at Tara's kiosk in the mall for about 6 months now. Overall the experience/results have been ok. But word to the wise DO NOT go to their store front by Nordstrom! The eyebrow price at the kiosk is $16 (which is expensive) but the actual "salon" is $22!! It's absurd that the owner thinks it's ok to charge an additional 38% for the same service in the same location. The lady pulled too much hair out of my eyebrow. I could tell she was not skilled in the threading process because when she was threading my eyebrows it felt more like she was plucking them. A good threading process should feel smooth and should go fast. Then she proceeded to use a tweezer. An eyebrow salon NEVER uses a tweezer because they don't have to. After I saw my eyebrow I was literally in tears. Then the person had the audacity to ask me for $20 fee for services. I informed her that I wanted a discount because I was unhappy with her service because she messed up my eyebrow. She stated well you don't have to tip me. I walked out of there fuming and in tears because I was afraid to look in the mirror again. I will NEVER go here again. I suggest you shouldn't either. read more

Eyebrows are what frame your face. When my eyebrows look good, my confidence sky rockets. With that being said I first tried threading 6 years ago in Houston and the salon there was fantastic (they also charged less than $10). Since moving to Austin I have been trying to find a good place to get my eyebrows done. Waxing just doesn't give me the natural shape that I look for. I went to the Tara's outside Nordstrom and that was way overpriced. I started going to Tara's kiosk maybe a year ago or so. Now there used to be an older woman who did the eyebrows and she was pretty dang good (not the best, but she was ranked pretty high up there). Well the last 3 times I went (in the last three months), my favorite woman wasn't there, instead they had a younger girl doing them. All three times I walked away upset at how awful my eyebrows turned out. I consider the $16 to be a steep price especially since Jamilla does them for I believe $12 but I continued going to Tara's kiosk because it was more convenient and closer to home. Tara's kiosk used to be a good place to go. Well not anymore. Oh and they no longer use the customer care card (purchase 11 threading services and receive one free). I think it is pretty crappy of them to just stop a rewards program especially since I was such a devoted customer and tipped generously. I will no longer be going to Tara's to get my eyebrows threaded. Jamilla (off anderson) will have all of my business and all of my friend's business. I just went to Taras even after all of the horrible reviews and let me tell you, from a native Houstonian, they didn't do that bad of a job. I am definitely happy with the threading that was done. I do wish she would have cleaned my face off once she was done but that is a minor detail. I did start out by telling her that I DID NOT want thin eyebrows but more of a shaping and she listened. I typically pay $10 including tip in San Marcos, where I used to live, but have paid up to $20 at some places. $36 dollars for threading services is obscene because there is little cost to the business. I was one of many who bought a coupon online to have a manicure/pedicure done at the north location. By the time I scheduled my appointment the regular nail technician had quit and someone was filling in for her. She was underpaid and overbooked. My appointment was pushed back 30 min and they didn't let me know ahead of time. The woman who did my nails did a good quick job but was completely stressed out and hadn't been given a break all day (this was at 2:45 pm). This is by far the worst experience I have EVER had with eyebrow threading so I really felt compelled to say something here to warn people off this location. No doubt Tara's on Anderson is great, so I thought I would try my luck with a location that is closer. BIG MISTAKE! I walked out of there with one brow in a very angular straight too thin cut look to it & the other brow the normal look. The woman never asked me what look I wanted (I thought hey, she must just "know" the best look!) She never said hi, how are you, anything! Just sit here, did her business without even so much of a smile. I can see why I was the ONLY person there at what should be a busy time during the day. The reason of course that I walked out of there with the funkiest brow you have ever seen is because as the previous poster mentioned the lighting is so darn dim I could simply not see it. I can't believe I paid $20 for that! All I can do now is sit & wait for it to grow back normal (whew I hope it does!) Lesson learned. I have been a frequent customer of Tara's on Anderson Lane for a long time, so when I was at the mall and in need of a lip threading, I stopped in. The service was fine, but when I went to check out I was charged $22...$10 MORE than at her Anderson Lane location. What's up with that?? Don't EVER get eyelash extensions here! The worst I have ever had. They glue multiple eyelashes together, and ruined my existing lashes. They don't use a magnification light and I don't think they have any real training. I had to have mine removed and have to get a full new set because of them! read more

It was my first time using this salon, I was in a rush, noticed they were empty, I mistakenly didn't ask the price before hand, and was utterly shocked when told after a 15 minute full facial threading, that it was $92!!! When she saw my face (an older Indian lady), she immediately said, but today, you only pay $65. I'm new to the US and always paid next to nothing in India for this service, but of course expected it to be more expensive here, just not that expensive. Have since done some research and see that other salons in very upmarket areas charge $30 for the same service. JUST APPALLING!!!! read more

Horrible place! I went in with nicely shaped brows just for a clean up job (and told her as much) and she ruined my shape and made them uneven. She almost cut my skin with her scissors (I had to jerk to alert her to the fact that she was about to cut me) as well as cutting straight through the middle of my brow so now it looks really blunt. This lady should not be allowed to shape brows, much less charge 22 bucks for it. read more
