Went here in August for a birthday dinner with my mom and step-dad. Pricing was fantastic for the food that we received. It was absolutely delicious and completely home-cooked. I'm big on eating Whole Foods that are good for you, so I chose this restaurant. Big portions that taste incredible and the service was out of this world. I really like the idea of supporting small family owned restaurants. My friend and I ate there recently one dish, the leg of lamb was excellent. The other dish which was a shredded beef and lamb dish was ridiculously dry never cooked. I mentioned this to the person at the cash register and she was fairly indifferent. I had a similar experience on my previous visit. Some of the food was great and som over cooked. I'm also not crazy about spending $22 for a dish and being given plastic utensils. I don't think it would take a lot for this restaurant to go from OK to great. I hope they will make the effort. read more

This review is only based on catering that I enjoyed at a party. I was not the host so can't even speak to the price or ordering process. But boy oh boy can I talk about the food. We got to enjoy falafel, chicken shawerma, briyani Chicken, lamb and chicken kebab, rice, dolma, pita and alllll the sauces. The rice was fabulous. Perfectly cooked, deliciously flavored with Little bits of veggies flecked throughout. I sampled all the meats and loved the kebabs the best. But I was too distracted by the falafel to really absorb much information about the meats. That crispy, fried ball of chickpea goodness was amazing. The texture was excellent. Both creamy and crunchy at the same time. Not spicy, but full of flavor. I used it as my favorite vessel to get those sauces into my mouth. Those damn, perfect sauces. The hummus was great, but you gotta go full force for the ones you can't find in a super market. The eggplant salad was dynamite! Nicely cooked and brined. The jakik was creamy and refreshing. But hold the phone for the Muhammara! It's made from red peppers and pomegranate juice. Sweet and slightly spicy and probably unlike anything you've ever had. At least not like this. Tarbush the Mediterranean Iraqi style restaurant in Boise......yip...Mediterranean Iraqi style food in Boise. The growing city is bringing us great options in dining. Lucky us! Our family wanted to give Tarbush a try as we like tasting new options in Boise. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The exterior is nothing special with limited signage. The interior is decorated with tons of photos from their family (i am guessing) with simple table settings. Inside you will find about 8 tables. You will order your food first at the counter and pay when finished with the meal. The owner was nice and helpful about the menu. She provided suggestions on what to eat. We started our meal with Iraqi Pickles along with Hummus. The pickles were awesome and full of flavor. Pita and Hummus was smooth and silky with a unique hot sauce added on top of the hummus. For dinner we ordered the Chicken Kabob along with the Buryani with Chicken. The kabob was traditionally made with the mined chicken meat compressed around the skewer. This is unlike the standard cubed chicken breast on a skewer. The meat was flavorful and juicy. The texture was a bit different (mushy) that was off-putting for my wife. The kabab plate (same as the buryani) was accompanied with rice, tatziki, and hummus. The Buryani rice was fluffy and well seasoned. The chicken was a bit dry but did taste good. The big problem with the dish was that the cook did not prep the chicken very well. I found 5 pieces of bone in the Buryani which was very annoying and not pleasant. We also had the Eggplant at our table which lacked flavor and was not great. With all the other dishes hosting things of flavor, we are not sure why the Eggplant dish fell short. The final dish that we had was the combo plate with a little of everything. Everybody but me enjoyed the Falafel on the plate. The lamb and chicken were cooked nicely with plenty of spices. If you are looking for some Iraqi food in Boise, this is the place to go. I would recommend other Mediterranean food spots before this one but understand that we do not have many Iraqi restaurants to choose from. Cheers Always! read more

The minute you walk in the door, you are greeted with the amazing smell of what I soon found out was coming from great food. I only assume it's a husband/wife team and they both were super friendly and the husband actually even stopped to tell us about the special..... so the special it was. The food was fabulous!! Lamb/Chix/saffron rice/hummus and a side of falafel. Which might be best in town..... still searching. But it ranks high. I've seen it for years and decide to drive across town.... So happy I did. I wanna give 4 stars for presentation as it was to go containers (DO NOT LET THAT KEEP YOU FROM EATING THERE) but the food and the friendly service makes up for it! We came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. We are happily greeted by the male owner and another female worker who were both very helpful answering our questions and helping us order. We received a couple of samples while we looked at menu items. We ordered a hummus to share (comes with pita bread and house made pickles), falafel entree, Arabic coffee, Arabic tea, and baklava. I could go into detail about everything, but I will just say, it was all fantastic. Great flavor, and not heavy food. You can tell that they take pride in the presentation. My favorite items were the house made mix pickles, the falafel cakes, and the baklava (it was pistachio baklava-sooo good!). What a delightful place! The food is delicious and authentic. The walls are lined with art and photographs to reflect the culture. The owners are extremely welcoming to all their patrons. I brought my brother and parents. I ordered the appetizer platter and family dinner platter for the 4 of us. We all enjoyed every item from the hummus, babaganoush, lebne, turshi (pickles) and eggplant salad, to the assorted tikka, kebab, grilled veggies and rice. I went in on a Wednesday around 4 pm. The restaurant is on the small side or some might call it cozy. Very clean with a nice atmosphere. I ordered the Iraqi Sandwich which only comes in the large size. The meal is generous with a small salad, some hummus, french fries and a burrito sized meal with for me had chicken as the main meat. It was cut up into bite sized sections. The overall flavor was good and the french fries were firm. The one drawback is the price. At $13 This meal and/or restaurant is a once or twice a year option. This place is insanely overpriced and NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR APPETITE. I am very disappointed with my experience today. I had asked for a to go box of each baba ganoush, hummus and falafel and the owner said that he can put it in small containers of the baba ganoush and hummus, so i said okay. He offered the family platter but I didnt want all of the appetizers, and such a little quantity comes with it and few pieces of falafel (i had purchased this plate a few weeks ago) , so i declined it. When I was about to pay after he made the food he told me the total was $78!!! I bought it because I was in such a shock and froze of how insane this price is!!!!! In Chicago or any other city with large Arab communities I can buy all of this for at least 5-15$ for an even larger quantity or go to Ishtar and pay at least $25 which is what I thought this restaurants prices would be about too.When i got home I looked on the receipt and it says that there are 4 containers each but in reality I only got 2 containers. I called to the owner and he said that a to go box is equivalent to 2 containers. So ridiculous that 2 containers costed me $25 and there was such little quantity inside. If you're going to charge me this price you should have given me 4 containers each like the receipt says. The falafel was $1 each and barely had any taste in it. I've never seen a restaurant charge $1 for falafel. He also told me that I could have customized the family platter how I wanted and paid $25. That would have been nice to know prior when I was ordering at the restaurant. When I came a few weeks ago I ordered a large platter of different meats for 7 people and the appetizer plate for $131. I thought this was very expensive compared to other Arab family owned restaurants I've been to across the USA , but I bought it anyways to try out their food for the first time and it was for a function. The meat platter was okay, the taste was just like any other Arab restaurant in Boise, bland and nothing surprising. The appetizer plate had little quantity as I mentioned before. What I experienced today though is ridiculous and insanely expensive for how little I actually got. Their prices are expensive and overpriced. Go to Ishtar if you want better quality and tasty food and more affordable prices. This man charges outrageous prices because he knows Idahoans will pay this price without having the knowledge how much actual Arab restaurants across the USA charge for the same platters. I wanted to give this man a chance since it was my second time ever and to support an Arab local owned restaurant but I will never ever come back! read more

The Tabola had a lightly pickled cucumber and fresh greens flavor. The lamb chicken kabobs and rice were lightly seasoned but had a great flavor. Loved!! the falafel(wonderful nutty crust) and Baklava(loaded with pistachios). The service was exceptional. The resturant was clean, had a good atmosphere(cafe/deli) and was covid conscious (which I greatly appreciated).The prices were very reasonable considering how large the portions were. Stumbled across this restaurant today. Was not disappointed. Incredible food, and very kind people. My friend and I ordered dolma (veggies stuffed in grape leaves) for an appetizer, very tasty and unique.
