I have been a professional tradesperson for 50 years. I was recently hired by a client to…read morerepresent them in remedying the defective work performed by Catalyst Construction. The quality of their work, their construction knowledge and professionalism are nothing short of ABYSMAL. I contacted Ryan Klobas (the owner) with regards to his defective and delinquent work. I threated to contact the Builders Board to motivate him to show up. His response? He said that "PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY TO TAKE HIM TO THE BUILDERS BOARD, BUT IT NEVER WORKS," and then promptly contacted his attorney (who sent us a patronizing letter) instead of showing up to the job site (something he NEVER did) to remedy the situation. He bullied my female client (a mother of an infant). HE TOOK 14 MONTHS TO INSTALL 2 WINDOWS! It wasn't until I began proceedings with the CCB that Ryan finally agreed to complete (or attempt to) complete the project. I had to dry plans on his behalf (he did not seem to know how) to show him how to do a simple window installation. I specified the use of proper materials, as he had not educated himself on this common trade knowledge. I forced him to get permits and engineering for the structural damage he had done to the residence. He lied to my client, telling them that permits were "optional." HE USES A CHAINSAW AND A SLEDGEHAMMER (literally) to cut ROUGH openings into structural concrete walls. He installed his windows exactly backwards. He dug huge holes in the yard, leaving them all winter to fill up with water, which migrated into the house. He does not know how to caulk properly. He used finger-jointed (garbage) lumber, which disintegrated in 2 months time. There is not one aspect of construction, neither in the use of materials or in standard construction orthodoxy, that Ryan knows how to implement. He makes things and systems up in his head, uses materials against their intended purposes, then writes a letter telling my client that he is "innovative" by doing so, and that my client is "crazy" for suggesting otherwise. All of Ryans' employees who visited the site, refer to Ryan as "an idiot" and "a bully." One employee told me that he gotten abused by Ryan because Ryan hadn't given him the plans (which we provided) for the project. Ryan told his employee that he should "LIE TO THE CLIENT TO PROTECT THE COMPANY." Every one of his employees who attempted doing their mis-guided work on my client's house, ended up quitting, because of the way Ryan mistreated them and his clients. I am not sure where the positive reviews have come from, but I suspect they are fake. My female client was literally afraid for her safety. She experienced Ryan as DANGEROUS. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY.

Patty offered great design input, while the Lakewood team efficiently installed the fireplace and even set the stone fireplace surround. The 6000CLX is a huge upgrade from our previous fireplace. We now have a truly all-season gas fireplace with a lot of flexibility. During the winter, the higher flame settings and built-in fan add a lot of needed warmth to the downstairs. In the spring and fall mornings and evenings, the lower flame settings add a warm ambiance. On summer evenings, the electric embers feature adds an nice accent without the heat. We ended up getting them hooked up ourselves, and when my husband called the lady answered the phone and said "what do you want". I called today to have someone come out because we are not getting hot water to our home and was yelled at, told to shut up, and then hung up on. Again, DO NOT USE THEM. You will not get your money worth and will deal with terrible people.

I went with Cutting Edge Contracting based on the estimate and their ability to be a single source for all the work, a choice I don't regret. As the project moved forward they identified a number of structural issues with the existing siding that had started to cause hidden water damage, so the work was extend to siding and structural repairs to resolve those issues. I'm very happy with their attention to detail and how the project turned out. I feel my home is now much better prepared for another 20+ years of PNW weather.

My husband and I hired Cutting Edge contracting after deciding between two roofing/siding companies…read morethat were very comparable. We went with Cutting Edge because Joe was very personable and seemed to have a down to earth, low pressure approach. We felt really good about our decision until the job started to progress. We hired them for roofing, gutters, siding, along with a few add ons to fix framing and such. During the whole process Cutting Edge was doing the work our interior was also getting remodeled so our whole house was down to studs and subfloor so we had a pretty clear view of all the work they were doing. The roofing came first which was chosen to be done at a terrible time. We happened to have an atmospheric storm after the shingles were removed and although it was supposed to be wrapped tight for no leaks we had SEVERAL! I am talking water dripping on my head in the middle of the night. Probably a total of 10 areas throughout my house that leaked. We had to have them come a minimum of 4 times for serious leaks. They were very responsive to that and did come as soon as they could so that was a positive note. We had to point out several errors that were made along the way as well, such as forgetting to do the house sheathing before doing the flashing on the roof so they had to remove the flashing, put down the sheathing and redo the flashing. They used a white caulk on our red brick chimney. One area of the roof had to have the pitch corrected to match the existing roof pitch and they did not support the wall when they cut the support that connected the two rooflines so the wall is no longer level, when it was brought to their attention we were told it wasn't something they could fix at that point because they had already roofed the area. There was a very obvious bow in the fascia board that I had to point out to them and ask them to correct, instead of doing it properly they shimmed it with plastic shims. One of the biggest disappointments is hiring a company who claims to be top level to install a new roof and in some areas the sheathing they used was moldy when they installed it in my house. Even with all the issues along the way I looked past it because they were correcting most of their mistakes and they offered to help do a few free door installs because my husband who was going to do the install broke his back shortly after they started the job. When getting the bid we had them over estimate to know the high end with a full resheet and we were told and trusted they would credit it to reflect what was used as Joe said they would. I do know that only around half the roof needed a resheet so we should have seen a decent credit back on it. When we received our bill we never received any credits back on the over estimate on the sheathing, when I asked about it Joe told me "he was pretty sure any credit was eaten up by the free door install". That is kind of confusing when we are told it is free but then when we are billed we are told differently. The roofers were very messy, inside and outside. I am still cleaning up nails and roofing materials months later. I will give all the credit to the crew that did our siding, they were phenomenal, zero complaints. Gutter install also went well without complaints. So I warn you if you decide to go with this company make sure you have your contract to reflect only what you know you need. Incase it is not clear on my feelings about our experience I will add, I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH THE OTHER GUYS.

Our previous windows let in so much heat and the new ones are cool to the touch on the hottest days. Granted the old windows were failing, but still. It's a great feeling.
