I've been in business myself for decades, and I have never experienced service this unprofessional. From the very beginning, Discount Windows & Doors on N. Vancouver Ave was nothing but red flags. A full year ago I reached out to the sales rep by email asking him to order windows. He ignored the request -- never accepted the order, never acknowledged the urgency, just radio silence. It was clear from the start he didn't care about small customers like me; he seemed only interested in the bigger construction clients -- the "bigger fish." I spent a year trying to get his attention, calling, emailing, and even driving down there once, only to find he'd left early without telling me. He told me he'd be there that day, but never mentioned leaving early. I showed up half an hour before closing, and he was gone. After relentless follow-up, he finally ordered the windows via email--but only after months of being dismissive and unresponsive. After waiting more than three weeks with no updates, it wasn't until I called that they told me the windows had just happened to arrive -- a suspicious coincidence, especially since I called another company for the same exact windows from the same manufacturer, and they quoted a two-week lead time. This entire process makes it painfully obvious they don't have a well-oiled operation. When I finally showed up to pick up the windows, they were the wrong ones. There was no apology and absolutely no acceptance of responsibility from the sales rep whatsoever. Instead, he cloaked his dismissiveness in polite language that basically meant, "fuck you." He refused to accept any fault, even though the mistake could have been his at any point. I showed him paperwork clearly stating the windows should have a nail fin. He tried to deflect by showing their order said "fin ripped." His attitude was basically, "That's not my problem." I wasn't interested in excuses -- I wanted someone to say, "We messed up, we'll fix it, and we'll compensate you for your time, the drives, and the hassle." Instead, he coldly told me it wasn't their fault I lived so far away -- despite the fact that I drive two hours round trip and pay for fuel every time I go. All that effort was summarily dismissed like it was no big deal. When I pushed back, the same employee told me not to berate him and shockingly called me "insane" in front of others. That is disgraceful in any professional environment. What baffles me the most is that this employee has been with the company for seven years. How someone with that level of ongoing, disrespectful behavior is still allowed to represent them is beyond me. You'd think after one incident -- let alone years of it -- they'd be fired or retrained. This says everything about how little they care about their customers. And I'm not alone in this. Other customers have had similar horror stories. One reviewer said, "A small ~$200 project took 6 weeks, 5 store trips, endless calls, and the only response was a simple 'sorry.' Avoid them if you can." Another said, "I ordered a 2×6 frame... they sent a 2×4... after two more weeks, still unresolved." In my experience, this company runs on arrogance, excuses, and dismissiveness -- not on customer service. If you value respect and reliability, look elsewhere. I certainly will. read more

We got beautiful, brand-new vinyl windows that look great, at a fraction of the cost if ordered anywhere else. I can't begin to express how angry I am about my experience here. When I ordered doors I was assured they would be in and ready to pick up on a certain date, they were not. I was understanding given all that is going on with supply chain issues. But then I was told they would be in the next week, and I called and gave them the order number and was told they had arrived and I could come pick them up. When I did come to pick them up I was told they didn't have them and no idea why. This completely derailed the timing for my project and now I am looking for doors elsewhere. We drove down from the Seattle area based not only upon this ad that was posted in the Seattle area Craigslist - but I also called to verify they actually had what I was looking for and was told they did. We drove down to Portland based upon this ad and based upon what I was told over the phone regarding availability - to find that not only the one Garden Window I would have been interested in was sold - but that they had only one (1) other garden window and that one had beige trim and was priced higher. Beige is not white. I was told, "sorry, we can order you one and then you can drive down and pick it up". !??! I don't think so. Don't waste your time coming here unless you're very close in proximity, and you don't mind buying windows that are not wrapped in protective covering and that are left out in the weather. I love this place!!! I used to live in Eugene and worked on houses and they were my GO-TO place for windows and doors. I was sad to move so far away but it appears they followed me up to PDX. What would have costed me $2000 in windows and doors was $1100! Needles to say, I saved me some money and they lived up to their namesake! The staff is genuinely cool and they helped me load up into my truck going the extra yard! I can't wait for my next home improvement project and definitely recommending to all my friends. read more

I ordered 10 shaker style doors from Discount Windows. The order was placed by me, in person, and I read everything off of a list to the person taking the order. Several weeks later I was notified that the doors were in. When I arrived to pick them up, I discovered that only 8 doors showed up AND 2 of those doors were of a completely different style than all of the others. When I pointed this out to the company, I was told that the doors would be immediately remade and shipped out ASAP. That never happened. Then I found out that two of the 10 doors were never ordered. I was then told that Discount Windows would not do anything to help me out on the two doors that were never ordered except to reorder them and to wait for several more weeks for them to show up. For all the hassle, I was offered a $10.00 discount on the two doors that showed up wrong. However that never happened either. I lost the interest rate lock on my house because it could not be appraised without the doors being installed. One of the people at Discount Windows told me that I should have just purchased a few temporary doors and used those to get the appraisal and then switched them out when the right ones came in. I was also told by one of several people that I dealt with at Discount, that he wasn't surprised that the person who took my order screwed it up because he does that on a regular basis. The true indicator of a company's customer service is in taking care of the customer when things go wrong and in this regard Discount Windows failed miserably. read more

I called to order 6 Panel Doors and spoke to a man who said he'd check on their stock and call me back. After a few hours I called back and spoke with Anthony. I explained that I didn't get a call back and the specs of what I wanted. He asked me to send him an email, which I did that day. After a couple of days with no response I sent a second email. There is a lot more to Discount Windows than the selection you see driving by! I'd driven past for more than 20 years before stopping at the suggestion of a contractor during a remodel when we were looking to replace the front door. We walked in expecting to get a door with a several panes of glass. Our person Matt patiently heard our silly story of loving the way the house looked when the contractors had removed the entire front (due to dry rot), explored possibilities with us and we ended up with a magnificent, 12 foot Millgard sliding glass FRONT DOOR! We didn't even know sliding doors took keys. They do, and they have amazingly secure locking systems as well. I had no idea they did custom orders! We have been back recently to get a new back door and a kitchen window. I had searched Home Depot, etc. thinking it would be easier and cheaper just to buy something off the shelf, but once again, thanks to Discount Windows we have two fabulous custom pieces designed to fit the space we have and the Millgard casement window was CHEAPER than a similar (and not perfectly sized) window at Home Depot read more

I purchased a floating home on the Columbia which was in pretty bad shape. Many of the windows were replaced with glass sliders. John was extremely helpful. When we ordered all of the sliders we had forgotten then we would need locks included. Even after the fact, John was able to locate and order locks and provide them quickly. They have helped me save money by going through the discard yard and looking for the right measurements, and when I broke a window I had bought there they walked me through how to replace the glass.
