Went on a suggestion of a co worker. It isn't much on the inside. The coco bread was really good. Got the curry goat with rice and peas. It needed a hit if flavor. It was good, but not spicy..I added hot sauce. My Jamaican friend tried it and sad it was ok. Will try something else and see what happens.. read more

Friendly staff. I think the lady I struck up a conversation with was the owner. She's half Sierra Leone and half American which I thought was cool. She gave me a brief overview of the business and the food selections available for that day as I told her it was my first time there. The food portions are pretty big and is reasonably priced. However, being very familiar with African food, I could tell that it had been "commercialized" a bit to please the American market as she told me. I had the cassava leaf stew with white rice and although it was good, it lacked authenticity and the "back home" taste. I would come back to support this business but instead get something less complex like some good ol' curry chicken with peas n rice or something along those lines. read more

While the food is good some of the workers be giving poor ratchet gjetto customer service Especially by phone. I order $50 worth of food and unfortunately got caught in a netting at work. When I called to inform them and order even more food one female proceeded to take my order and was nice and professional. Someone else then got on the phone very ghetto and ratchet talking bout I ordered all this food along time ago I have to order when i get in. which I had no problem with but her tone was very nasty! Placed an order from doordash. Was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Jerk wings were off the chain. They had a gravy base sauce vs the usual barbecue jerk sauce that I hate from other places. The spinach stew was something I've never had before. Delicious. So I have been to this establishment over 20 times and normally get good service however on 9/20 at 7:30pm I called to place an order of shrimp and jerk chicken combo. I was greeted by a very rude and disrespectful employee who told me that I could not order the shrimp because they shut there stoves off a hour before they close. I had to make the employee ware that it was only 7:30 and that there establishment didn't close until 9:00. So I was very confused as to why my order could not be fulfilled. I asked to speak to a manager and was promptly hung up on. With this type of service I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be finding another establishment to give my money. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to eat in between appointments at work. The hot jerk chicken sandwich is a win 7days a week and I grab one almost every time I have a chance. This restaurant, about 6 or 7 years years ago, was my first introduction to Caribbean food. And it was a good one. It soon became an addiction and I would crave Taste Buds. I ate there frequently. Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, Ox tails, Curry Chicken, Stewed Beef. Plantains, carrot cake, beef patties, and coco bread. It didn't matter because I loved it all and was determined to try the whole menu. So you can imagine how heartbroken I was when I moved to Philly for College. No more Taste Buds. I've since lived in different areas and tried different Caribbean restaurants and this is still one of my favorite places. I recently visited it again and was delighted to find that Taste Buds was just as delicious as when I first tried it all those years ago. The service is nice and reliable. The portion sizes are HUGE. I can never ever ever finish hard as I may try. My only issue is that there isn't any place to sit and eat inside. :( I wish Taste Buds was more of a real restaurant. But I'll take what I can get when I can get it. read more

However the last time I came, the owner's daugter who runs the front counter was soo rude, that as bad as I wanted that cassava leaf that day, I had to leave and determine my money was no good there for me to be treated as so disrespectful. I was in there on Saturday. I was looking for something to get my members for lunch and saw this place. From where I was position I couldn't see the name of the place but I saw two Ladies and thought that they were similar to Sardis. I was in! Nope, when I went in I discovered that it was a Caribbean spot, EVEN BETTER! I'm looking over the menu and the daughter of the owners started to spray Lysol on the chairs that I was standing next to. In a very aggressive tone she says can you move up! Okay cool, I then asked her who cooked the food because I didn't see any Caribbean or African people. I guess she was offended because she said That's not the question you are supposed to ask! Huh? I asked who was cooking because I will not go to a Soul food Chinese spot, or an Indian cuisine restaurant ran others. No shade. It was a real question. This place used to be in the Swan Creek shopping center in Fort Washington, MD but they vacated some time ago and I had no idea where they had gone. Just discovered in the last few weeks that they had relocated to Capitol Heights and I was soooooo excited to have found them again! The jerk chicken is always on the money, great sauce, perfect amount of heat to the spicy. The mixed greens are to die for, cooked perfectly and seasoned beautifully. And the jerk sauce on their peas and rice just sets the whole thing off. Great food, friendly service, a real neighborhood gem. Nothing fancy inside, barely even a place to eat inside, but who cares? I want to go home and eat it in front of my tv anyway. Muffin Man is normally my favorite jerk chicken spot but this place gives them a run for their money! Do try! read more

I am usually unimpressed by "Caribbean" food outside of NYC and this wasn't any different. I took a chance on the oxtails and the food looked so unappealing I took it directly to my outside trash can. There was enough gravy to drown in and the plantain was so soggy and full if oil it was un-identifiable. Great customer service as it was my first time trying this spot out. The lady recommended a combo of jerk and brown stew chicken. It was fresh and hot! There was plenty to have left overs if I wasn't being greedy. Coco bread seemed to be made else where and wasn't fresh as I would expect. However, the meal made up for the Coco bread! This place has the two characteristics highest on my list - great tasting food AND great, friendly service. I don't care what a place looks like but if I get THOSE two things out of it, I'm a fan for life! I don't eat land meats or foul but I DO eat seafood, so I always get the fish roti and for $8 it's a good deal. The bro with the braids makes it the best, he makes em HUGE. The food here is great. The curry and jerk chicken are almost as good as my grandfathers. The proportions you receive for your money is awesome. When I can't go to Jamaica to get the food from my grandfather I will settle for Taste Buds or Taste Buds II if I'm in Ft. Washington. I love this place. read more
