Scapple, egg, and cheese on coco bread
    Hammed A.

I like Taste Budds and will continue to visit for their fried whiting fish sandwich. They offer your typical southern American breakfast options, fried seafood, and Caribbean cuisine. Virtually everything but the breakfast and fried seafood is Caribbean influenced. This fish sandwich is top tier evident by customer pictures and consistent customer reviews. It is a good size piece of fish, fried, and seasoned well. It is very simple and the fry is executed well. As you can see from my photos, my breakfast sandwich experience wasn't a good one. The scrapple on coco bread was lacking significant flavor. It needs a better variety of cheese and I don't think the honey drizzle is the best option for a sauce. The customer service has be OK, however, because it has only been OK on the couple occasions I visited, I can understand some of the other reviews where people describe inconsistency in the area of customer service. There is indoor seating which looks rather comfortable. I'll continue to visit for their fried fish sandwich and I'll also try their Caribbean dishes at some point.

I listed this place as a "Have to Visit" based on the review of a fellow Yelper. So, I am here. My breakfast was worth the trip (from Lake Ridge, VA, to Capital Heights, MD.) I ordered fried whiting, grits, and cheese eggs. Mmmm. I took it to go. I stopped for a coffee and then ate a portion in my car. For $20.00, the portions were plentiful. The fish was perfectly fried and seasoned; and the eggs were delicious. I am not sure if they intended to give me so many eggs; so I guess I have to go again. This is a storefront restaurant with seating for a few. It's warm, clean, and appears to be family owned. Service was great for breakfast and for the type of dish that was ordered.

I heard about this place, saw the food and added it to my try list and I finally made it. It is tucked away in a shopping center I actually rode by it the first time but this spot is a gem. Upon enter we was welcomed in and the young lady who took the order was very kind and patient as we looked over the menu. We told her it was out first time and she told us how her aunt owned the restaurant and it's a family business. We had heard about the $10 fish sandwich that they do on Fridays and decided to go with that. (The $10 deal is only during certain times so check before going) The fish was fresh, hot and made to order. I haven't had a good fish sandwich in the dmv in but the one I had from here AMAZING!! To drink I had the Ginger Lemonade, the ginger was a little strong but it didn't bother me because I like ginger. Let's go support this business give them a try! I just may go back every Friday ! Lol!

Second time I been to this place since the take over First time fried oysters/or mussels was fried to death! No life after or flavor Half and half tea was bomb Today I ordered a beef patty with 2 drinks. Line was long so I decided to order something quick Drink 1 which was the blueberry lemonade was too sweet And drink 2 I got the half and half again all I could taste was tea bag But let's get the the beef patty , dry , spicy and hard I have pictures to prove they have to do a lot better with the food quality, line was out the door but you have the female owner eating on the fry line instead of getting the orders out, it was about 10 order people on the store waiting to order or already ordered. The young teenage on the register did a fabulous job I jus think they need to slow down and actually pay attention to orders

    Fried whiting

Delicious! Great portions and food quality. Ordered the fish sandwich and bacon egg and cheese croissants. If you love croissants or bodega style breakfast sandwiches. You'll enjoy theirs. The fried fish sandwich was what I think of when I want a fried fish sandwich. The way it should be fried This is a family business which I also love. Service is always on point. If there's a mix up they are on it about correcting it. Always greeted with a smile. We usually pick up our orders but the inside is cute as well for a quick bite.

There was bones in the Whiting. Rice and peas was not seasoned. Disappointed for the price.

Staff is friendly, nice set up on the inside. Service was fast. The oxtail were tender but could have used more gravy. Jerk chicken sandwich was very good. I would come again to try more options.

One thing that threw me off was on the menu for the pasta listed at $23 and it says you can choose from shrimp or chicken or do both, no where on the menu does it indicates it's a up charge for choosing both so my pasta came up to $30. Other than that one complaint I be back to try out more food. (No pic today I was too hungry lol)

Customer service, though patient, no smile at all from the young lady working the register on Saturday, June 13th at approximately 8 pm. What did I order? The Rasta Pasta and a whole sweet potato pie based on a recommendation. My assessment? Why does chicken smell like tuna? Secondly, where's the chicken. I had more pasta and sautéed veggies than anything. And sadly, the chicken that I did find looked like the pressed and processed chicken fajita chicken strips from a bag of Tyson's. The pie was g9od. But looked more like pumpkin pie than sweet potato. But it was thin. And not worth the almost $30 that I paid for it. In total, I paid $83 for 2 plates of the pasta and the pie. The good thing that I can say about the pasta is that one plate is enough to feed 3-4 people. And sadly, the pasta is EXTREMELY oily. Would I try them again? Yes. But not for the pasta. That was highly recommended to me. I just got home and was able to snap pics of the remaining pie, and the oily residue from my boyfriend's plate.

Our group ordered via the phone for a carryout for lunch - I had: +the Seafood Fries - this had Old Bay-seasoned fries, topped with shrimp, fried salmon bites, and lump crab meat, dressed in a remoulade sauce; you can opt for cajun or bang bang seasoning, in which I went for the cajun. This was pretty tasty, albeit slightly more on the saltier end. The shrimp was large and well-battered, and the seasoning was definitely present! The salmon bites were okay - large generous chunks, but I think they did overfried it, so it was more on the dry end. Could have had more lump crab meat, as this was very scarce. Others had the subs, the veggie bowls, and sandwiches, and they were all fans. The only issue was that they did not include any condiments, specifically cocktail sauce that was requested, and a couple of items were missing from the order. Online ordering is also available for convenience. +large shrimp +check your orders!

There is free parking, with limited spots that are shared with other businesses. There are a few seats for when you are waiting for your food but I didn't notice any tables for dining. When we arrived there was a food reviewer in there raving about the pancakes so, of course, we had to try them along with a few other items. I ordered the catfish and grits, which were EXCELLENT; Bae built a bowl, which included eggs, grits, and a few proteins; and we also ordered the chicken and pancakes; and a mango iced tea. Service was EXCELLENT!! Everyone was so kind, patient, and helpful. The food was also prepared quickly and was delicious! My only "complaint" is why would you make pancakes that taste soooo good and then serve cheap pancake syrup!?
