Came to support a local, family owned business, and ended up finding my new favorite place to get Indian food! Let's start with the atmosphere, this place is amazingly mom and pop and charmingly decorated. Unlike the place up the road, you don't feel like you're in a restaurant that used to be SOMETHING else. Then the food. We started with vegetable samosas and they came out quick, hot, and delicious. Two were enough for us but I wished I could have had more. For my main, I got the butter lamb done as hot as they could make it, while my guest had the chicken tikka masala at medium. I love super spicy and was not disappointed, it caused some serious forehead sweat but wasn't panic inducing. The food was all served hot, fresh, and had amazing flavor. It came paired with basmati rice that was also fresh and aromatic. On the side we tried the roti and the fresh garlic naan and were not disappointed at either, but have to say the puffy and flaky naan was hands down the best side of the evening. I never once had to wait for a drink refill and was treated extremely well by the wait staff. This place is a PASS. The food is so mid. The tikka paneer just tasted like straight tomato sauce. The lamb vindaloo was so acidic- we even heard another table send it back to the kitchen! The chicken tandoori was so underwhelming. No flavor at all. Not only was the food whack, but the interior. Once you walk in, it smells like a sewer and the decor and ambiance is dingy. We ordered the Chicken Pakora, Chicken Tikka Masala, and fresh Garlic Naan. Every bite was bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared. The Chicken Tikka Masala was rich and creamy, the pakoras were crispy and full of spice, and the naan was warm, soft, and garlicky--absolutely delicious. This location is conveniently located near the big stores like Target and Home Depot, but a little in more from the Main Street. I decided to go in and try their lunch special. From their lunch special menu, you get to choose two (2) entrees so I chose the chicken tikka masala and the lamb saag. Included with the lunch special is salad, onion pakora, rice, naan, raita, and kheer. I also ordered a mango lassi. To me, the lunch special was just okay. I liked the generous portions of everything, but the flavoring wasn't there. The chicken tikka masala was super liquidity as an entree. Both entrees lacked flavor. Out of the entrees though, I'd choose the lamb saag over anything else because it wasn't liquidity and most of the flavor was there. Also on a side note, you aren't able to adjust the spice level. The only way to adjust it is through the spice that's placed on the table already. If there's one thing to get here, I highly suggest getting the mango lassi. The mango lassi here was perfect as it's more on the sour side rather than sweet, just how I like it! Service was really good as all of the servers were really attentive and asking if we needed anything else. There's plenty of parking at this location and it's free. Food I have always liked this place. I always get the Nona cheese bread with the lamb malasada. It was very delicious. Last week me and a friend ordered take. I ordered the usual and she ordered the chicken. When the food arrived it wasn't the same, lamb malasada had a layer of grease when I opened the bowl. The chicken was dry and the Nona bread was nothing like I remember getting. It was so thin it was hard to eat. My only hope is the restaurant quality is intact. Sooooo delicious!! I ordered take out from here one day at work and ordered my meal spicy and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually spicy! I hate going out for Indian food and having it so toned down that it's not enjoyable so this was a great find. It seems like the curry was made and they just throw in the protein you ask for. Staying at the Hampton hotel next store to Taste of India I smelled the food from outside & HAD to try it ! The hood fan was blowing the delicious smells outside I've never tried Indian food before .... I'm 61 & a chef ! I looked up their menu and took a couple pictures of what I would like to try I was greeted with a smile and a friendly voice I started asking about the menu and showed the young lady the pictures ... as it turned out, the owner & mother of the very friendly young lady was at the counter Jennifer, the owners name, was so friendly... mind you I'm from the Chicagoland area and we don't get that much out that way ! Jennifer helped me with 3 delicious choices. I let her pick When I say delicious, I mean over the top delicious! As I waited for my food, to go, every person that walked through the door was greeted, with a smile and hello most by name. Jennifer & her staff is what is expected when going to a restaurant. As a chef and former restaurant owner it's exactly how I ran my place ! It's a small ma & pop operation, which I love ! Excellent spot for Indian food and this place just hits!!! All of the food we have tried here is very good and we have enjoyed them. This trip we had the Lamb Coconut Korma (excellent), and the Chicken Tikka Masala (very good), with a couple of Naan (excellent), and some ice cream in a glass, Mango Lassi (excellent). Funny, the one critique the wife had was on the Tikka Masala that it actually had TOO much chicken in it. Strange, I know, but it is what it is. The rice that comes with the meal is good, and basic rice. There wasn't any other spices or flavorings to it but it was a nice addition to the curries. Pro Tip: This place is located in restaurant central and they are BUSY during peak dinner hours. Get there a little bit early and a LOT early on the weekends or you are going to have an extended wait. You can also get food to-go and portions are good. read more

Overall not bad for one of very few Indian restaurants in the local area. I was hoping the lamb tikka masala would have more vegetables and that the sauce would be thicker but perhaps my leftovers tomorrow will be better. The service and overall atmosphere of the restaurant was not great, the man who brought the food from the back and the young boy (so polite) were great but the women at the front were very passive, casual and forgot to bring items we asked for. I didn't like how the dirty food cart went up and down by the tables but I understand ergonomically this is how to clear the tables. Let's get to the point. This is my absolute favorite Indian restaurant. Traditional flavors, and the spice levels here are legit I would put this restaurant next to the top tier of Indian restaurants in the state. My go to is the typical Tikka Masala. I've had it with lamb, chicken, and just recently shrimp.. all consistently flavored. I moved south in the city, and I've tried numerous other places that were more convenient and to no avail. If I happen to be in Layton, I will stop by just to embark on my favorite dish. Dinner rush could cause a wait. Service is consistent though, the family running the show are always busy just try and stay out of their way. I've never dined in, only have ordered for pick up. The ambience is small, but cozy. The naan is also exceptional so don't skip on it!! Spice level: Very Hot- You will need a cloth for the bullets of sweat about to run down your face. Not recommended for dates or women who have not waterproofed their make up. This will push tears of unlocked trauma out from your sockets and your tongue will try and talk you into unhinging itself. Hot- Intense, your lips will feel plumped from the heat and you will experience euphoria from the rise in endorphins and dopamine. A risk taking experience that won't have you looking pathetic. The chicken was overcooked and dry - super dry. When two of the employees asked us how we liked everything, we told them them about the super dry chicken and they said (very casually I might add) "it's supposed to be that way. We left 90% of the Chicken Tikka dish on the table. When we indicated that we didn't want a box for all the leftovers the server understood we were not happy. When we received the check, they gave us a 10% discount which was appreciated. The two stars are because of the polite service and the good Naan. And I just can't wait to eat it. I don't like chicken with my chicken tiki masala, and they always honor my request and just give me the sauce and they even charge less without the chicken.. other places just seem confused at my offer and just ignore it. I wish I could give this place 10 stars because it is that good. The garlic naan is amazing. The chicken tiki masala is amazing is amazing. Amazing smelling food! I got the saag paneer which was cottage cheese in spinach gravy. The cheese was in blocks, super soft, with a taste similar to mozzarella. The spinach gravy smelled like fresh spinach out of the garden. It tasted really delicious and a part of it tasted kinda tangy. Overall the flavors were intense and balanced out.
