I am an Indian cuisine novice but I came here with some friends and had an even better experience than I anticipated. I'm not a huge fan of Indian flavors, and so I don't typically choose Indian food, but the invitation from our friends who really love it was the perfect opportunity to open our palette a bit more. And I have to say, I have a feeling that this was the perfect place to try Indian food, since most of the time, when someone doesn't like a certain food, it's usually because they've never had it prepared correctly or well. I wanted to be a tad bit adventurous with Indian cuisine without sacrificing my butthole and the Saag Shorba soup was the perfect place to venture. I had no idea what this soup was but man it was very very delicious. I am not even sure what the spice concoction was, but it was heavenly. Then my husband and I split an entree of butter chicken because I knew that would also be safe for us white people who don't need to sit through Jurassic park with a burnt tongue or upset tummy. And it was very delicious. I love foods that are super flavorful without being overpowered by the heat that spices can sometimes bring. The jasmine rice that came with it was lightly seasoned and sooo good when slathered with the saucy butter chicken. We also got a side of garlic naan which was obviously a must. And everything together just hit the spot in my tummy that I didnt even know Indian food could deliver for me. We also ordered a mango yogurt drink. I didnt know that it had yogurt, so my initial reaction to it was that it seemed too warm to be a mango smoothie for how thick it was. But once I realized that it was supposed to be not freezing, my brain made better sense of it. It was very delicious. The host and servers were all super kind, and helped steer us away from dishes that would have been TOO spicy adventurous for us (like the lamb vindaloo). The seating was very nice. Super clean, and served water in stemware. It gives a more upscale, intimate vibe that was really nice for being on a double date with best friends and not having a grip of kids with us like we normally do. I still don't know how much I will personally ever crave Indian food. But I reckon if there ever was a place to make me seek it out, Red Fort will be the culprit. read more

We've tried this new location twice and I can't think of anything they could do to improve. We love the new location, from its cool wooden doors to the laid back interior. The staff has been quick to seat us and attentive throughout both dining experiences. (We were there early before the dinner rush on both occasions.) We had the vegetable samosas, naan, garlic naan, chicken tandoori, masala (chicken tikka on our first visit and paneer on the second) and saag paneer--all were delicious. Well I've never had Indian food out. Prepackaged stuff and that sort of thing. What have missing!!! Not only great tasting but lots of gluten free options. Service was great and the manager went more than out of his way to make our party feel welcome. The ambiance is cozy and inviting. A great meal, experience and night out. We finally made it to Red Fort in Ogden! They really lucked out and landed such a cool piece of real estate for this location. We entered through the heavy wooden doors and then into the dining area which was huge but cozy. The staff were all wonderful and the food was spot on. We always get our spicy level hot in Layton and it's moderately spicy so we did the same here and it was much hotter so keep that in mind if you don't like it too hot. Do, this visit was much better than the last. The place was somewhat decorated up from the old matador to something new. Still a long away to go. Good quality is much better and service is better that before. Wife had her usual, chicken tika Marsala and they made shrimp vindaloo for me. Ordered as max level heat and got a three. Red Fort - Pineapple Curry and Chicken Makhani (Butter) - Indian Near Me - Ogden, Utah

Excited to try a new Indian restaurant in Ogden. We have two now! Choices! The ambiance of the Ogden location retains much of the original El Matador. Because the booth upholstery is red, it works with the Red Fort name. The walls are a bit spartan. We ordered the vegetable pakora, garlic naan, butter chicken, and Rogan Josh. The pakora was very much like a fritter, and ate heavy as a result. The flavor was muted by the amount of batter. The garlic naan was delicious, thin, almost crispy, the garlic wasn't overpowering. Both entrees came with basmati rice. This, too, was well cooked. While the butter chicken and lamb Rogan Josh were good. Neither really blew us away. The lamb wasn't over cooked, but the overall dish lacked a depth of flavor, the tomato base didn't let the more aromatic flavors, cardamom, cloves, etc. shine. Everything on the menu was a la carte. The entrees, nearly twenty dollars, came with rice. That's it. Chutneys, sauces, all come with an extra charge. Overall, I'm glad Ogden has another new Indian restaurant. I'm sure we will go back to try a couple of different things, but I am left hoping for a third option to open up. read more

I love Indian food, live in New York and travel often so have pretty much tried Indian food all over the world, and this restaurant (and their sister restaurant in Park City) is hands down the best Indian food I have ever had!!! We shared a bunch of dishes: butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, coconut curry lamb, mixed vegetable curry, garlic nan, and yogurt sauce. It was delicious, we all felt stuffed and have enough leftovers for at least one more meal. The price was amazing and service was impeccable! It clearly used to be a Mexican restaurant so the ambiance is a little weird, but for my dining experiences I care about quality food and excellent service. Of all our visits to Utah, this is the BEST restaurant I have eaten at - don't miss it! read more

Had an awesome experience at the Red Fort in Ogden. Our waiter Brock was super nice and friendly and couldn't have been better! My go to meal is the Buttered Chicken and it always hits the spot. The naan bread is also really good for an appetizer or if you're extra hungry. The restaurant is clean ,well maintained, and always a comfortable experience. The newly opened Red Fort in Ogden is great. They have moved into the old Matador restaurant providing a much needed Indian restaurant with a nice atmosphere.. We have been waiting to try it since we saw the sign go up a while back. The food came out quickly and the heat temperature was just as ordered, not too hot and not too mild. The dishes were very flavorful and the portions were generous and sufficient for the cost of the meal. Being our first time at Red Fort we had a few questions about the menu items and the manager Garry along with the waitress Tim were helpful and informative and pleasant while answering our questions about the various items. We will definitely be visiting the Red Fort again in the future. read more
