Dolly's is a great place to eat! I've been here a few times, the only things I wouldn't order again are the hamburgers, they're tiny, and the fried chicken, it was just okay. My favorite things to order are the: Broccoli cheese soup bites - omg they are so good Fish n' chips - crispier and more succulent than Governor's Chicken stew - an Acadian favorite that is something like chicken n' dumplings with added French panache Ployes and Creton - Essentially pork rilletes over buckwheat pancakes, if you like a lot of flavor then this is for you If you order anything and they ask if you want Ployes go ahead and get them, whether you like 'em or not, you won't be disappointed that you tried them and many find them uniquely delicious. The service here is always super attentive. The waitstaff is knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and quick. You might have to wait a few minutes to check out behind other parties but I imagine you kind of expect that at a sit down restaurant anywhere. The vibe inside is right at home in the St. John Valley of Maine, no fuss, home cooked meals. I've been here before during a visit to the county a few years ago but it was for breakfast. Yesterday we went here for lunch. It was an amazing experience. The wait staff was phenomenal and very attentive and extremely helpful. As soon as we walked in and sat ourselves we were greeted and served drinks while we looked at the menu. The restaurant itself gives that small town vibe and quaintness. As for the meal itself it was nice to find perfectly prepared baked trout, played with creton and gravy covered fries! read more

So, the menu is slightly impressive. I decided to order the house special: chicken stew and ployes. I've never had ployes before. I also was impressed they made sugar pie. I had to learn to make it when I worked for a lodge in Moosehead. Canadians would drive just for my pie and said it was the best they ever had. So I had my hopes up for a traditional Acadian sugar pie. The restaurant is supposedly known for good haddock, which my husband ordered, and we split the poutine. 1. I was told 20 minutes and ended up waiting almost 50 minutes. I honestly didn't care, but my husband and 6 year old weren't pleased. 2. The poutine was really good. I was pleased. Not all poutine is good. It's surprising that people can mess it up, but it happens. This is one of the good ones! 3. I was told by my hubby the haddock was a bit old. He didn't finish his sandwich. 4. The chicken stew was bland, not bad, just bland. It needed salt which I forgot I had. ‍ 5. The ploye: ok, so my first impression was they were the most dull thing I ever ate, but when I hit the butter, I actually liked them a lot. I'd order them again but with syrup or honey or fruit. 6. The pie was kind of sad. I know sugar pie, and this was just kind of depressing. It looked good, but it was missing that special flavor sugar pie should have. I didn't take more than 2 bites. Would I go back? Yes, their breakfast menu looks good. I'd definitely get the ploye order again. And as a pie lover (even after my initial let down) I'm excited how large their pie menu is! I was bummed they had almost nothing made without dairy. So my son's food allergy left him with little to eat: a side of bacon plus baggies of cereal I brought in the car. read more

Good ol' home cooking. Plenty of selection and service was good. Ambiance was above good, but what you'd expect.

I realize it's a small, remote town with few dinner options. Granted this was our one and only and first experience with Dolly's. Based on good reviews, we drove up from VanBuren. The steak poutine was good with large cheese curds, salty canned gravy and decent fries. The real shame was my hot turkey sandwich. Same salty gravy, 2 thick pieces of white Texas toast and what was supposed to be their own roasted turkey in between. I couldn't figure out what they did to the turkey meat that it was so hard and dry I couldn't even get my fork into some of the pieces. Really, really bad. Mashed potatoes were ok, with more salty gravy. Small salad on the plate was covered in very sweet Italian dressing. Not worth eating like the salty canned mixed Vegetables. When I told the waitress, she apologized and asked if I wanted something else. I ordered a cheeseburger and it was steaming hot and decent. Should have said something when paying the bill because we were charged for the turkey sandwich meal I couldn't eat, not for the burger. read more

Dolly's delivers. Went there with my mother who is trying to eat a limited gluten diet, and she had no issues here. Mom got the Lobster salad which she enjoyed. I got the fried clam strips which were great. You know you are in the county when you have more than 3 options for your potato (I got JoJo) and entrees are served with ployes. I would have given 5 stars if the vegetable side had been fresh not canned. I have been to Dolly's many times during my visits to The county and I plan to return! read more

Glad we stopped here! Waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food was wonderful. We shared an order of poutine, and fries were just how I like them. I had the chicken stew and ployes. Was a great, large portion size, lots of chicken and dumplings. All tasted wonderful. My kids were with me they both ordered the kids' spaghetti and meatballs. Portion size was larger than expected for a kids meal. Would eat again if in the area. read more

My wife and I have heard about Dolly's and today I took my wife there for a birthday lunch. Well, the old saying, first time last time! My wife had a baconburger and it was edible, a good size and cooked to her liking, she also had onion rings, here is where the negative starts, the rings looked like they were rolled into a ball and deep fried, awful!!!! I had a turkey club, the bread was supposed to be toasted, it was soggy and the turkey when I could find it was dry as dust! The french fries were dry as wood and ice cold, looked they were from the Flintstone era, the cole slaw was in some kind of juice, but maybe the best thing I ate there. This is a classic Madawaska restaurant that I've been meaning to visit for years. We visited for a late lunch and had a northern Maine classic - chicken stew and ployes. It's incredibly delicious, peppery and rich, with lots of fluffy dumplings and shredded chicken. Just like my Memere used to make. The waitress was friendly and very helpful. She suggested we might prefer a small poutine rather than the large, because we let her know we definitely wanted to save room for dessert. They had cheese curds, in addition to shredded cheese, which I prefer in poutine. The fries were nicely crispy and the gravy was just the right amount of salty. They have many choices of pie for dessert. The blueberry was a disappointment - it's made from canned blueberry instead of fresh berries. But there were also cream pies, and the butterscotch that went to s table near ours looked really good. Dolly's is definitely worth a visit! read more

This is my second review of this restaurant. WOW!! This place went from a five star down to a two star. This was a favorite of ours in the past. Whenever we were in the area and if we had the slightest hunger rumble in the belly it was off we go to Dolly's. After this latest stop it has turned to hurry up and get a grinder from a local Sandwich shop or hurry home for something to eat. My wife ordered her usual white fish favorite where in the past the fish was flakey throughout, where this time it was flaky three quarters of the way and then hard as a brick the rest of the way through. My meal was oh well let's just say it was. This was a restaurant that was always PACKED.!!!! I don't know what happened, maybe Covid ???? I sincerely have some hope for this little restaurant that had a wonderful Franco-American cuisine. It's worth a try maybe in a few more months when the 5 to 6 foot social distance will dissappear. I'll update again as I would hate to loose a place that made food the way Mom always cooked. read more
