    Sugar pie
    Johanna F.

So, the menu is slightly impressive. I decided to order the house special: chicken stew and ployes. I've never had ployes before. I also was impressed they made sugar pie. I had to learn to make it when I worked for a lodge in Moosehead. Canadians would drive just for my pie and said it was the best they ever had. So I had my hopes up for a traditional Acadian sugar pie. The restaurant is supposedly known for good haddock, which my husband ordered, and we split the poutine. 1. I was told 20 minutes and ended up waiting almost 50 minutes. I honestly didn't care, but my husband and 6 year old weren't pleased. 2. The poutine was really good. I was pleased. Not all poutine is good. It's surprising that people can mess it up, but it happens. This is one of the good ones! 3. I was told by my hubby the haddock was a bit old. He didn't finish his sandwich. 4. The chicken stew was bland, not bad, just bland. It needed salt which I forgot I had. ‍ 5. The ploye: ok, so my first impression was they were the most dull thing I ever ate, but when I hit the butter, I actually liked them a lot. I'd order them again but with syrup or honey or fruit. 6. The pie was kind of sad. I know sugar pie, and this was just kind of depressing. It looked good, but it was missing that special flavor sugar pie should have. I didn't take more than 2 bites. Would I go back? Yes, their breakfast menu looks good. I'd definitely get the ploye order again. And as a pie lover (even after my initial let down) I'm excited how large their pie menu is! I was bummed they had almost nothing made without dairy. So my son's food allergy left him with little to eat: a side of bacon plus baggies of cereal I brought in the car.

    Small steak poutine

I realize it's a small, remote town with few dinner options. Granted this was our one and only and first experience with Dolly's. Based on good reviews, we drove up from VanBuren. The steak poutine was good with large cheese curds, salty canned gravy and decent fries. The real shame was my hot turkey sandwich. Same salty gravy, 2 thick pieces of white Texas toast and what was supposed to be their own roasted turkey in between. I couldn't figure out what they did to the turkey meat that it was so hard and dry I couldn't even get my fork into some of the pieces. Really, really bad. Mashed potatoes were ok, with more salty gravy. Small salad on the plate was covered in very sweet Italian dressing. Not worth eating like the salty canned mixed Vegetables. When I told the waitress, she apologized and asked if I wanted something else. I ordered a cheeseburger and it was steaming hot and decent. Should have said something when paying the bill because we were charged for the turkey sandwich meal I couldn't eat, not for the burger.

Mom's Lobster salad and my fried clam strips with jojo potatoes, veg and ployes

Dolly's delivers. Went there with my mother who is trying to eat a limited gluten diet, and she had no issues here. Mom got the Lobster salad which she enjoyed. I got the fried clam strips which were great. You know you are in the county when you have more than 3 options for your potato (I got JoJo) and entrees are served with ployes. I would have given 5 stars if the vegetable side had been fresh not canned. I have been to Dolly's many times during my visits to The county and I plan to return!

Glad we stopped here! Waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food was wonderful. We shared an order of poutine, and fries were just how I like them. I had the chicken stew and ployes. Was a great, large portion size, lots of chicken and dumplings. All tasted wonderful. My kids were with me they both ordered the kids' spaghetti and meatballs. Portion size was larger than expected for a kids meal. Would eat again if in the area.

Best place in Nothern Maine for breakfast.

Wonderful down home experience in a French environment. Wonderful service and food was da bomb.

Chicken stew and poutine - this isn't the best photo, but the food is DELICIOUS!!

Good ol' home cooking. Plenty of selection and service was good. Ambiance was above good, but what you'd expect.

Overall, in the more northern/more rural areas service was more relaxed and slower. The food was also just more average. Compared to some other spots Fort Kent had a decent amount of options and this was the spot we settled on. It was by no means busy during this time of the year and like similar places service was decent, food did come out quickly and our order was taken at a good pace also. The attentiveness was just less than I typically expect especially considering it was not that busy. This place looks like what you would expect from a rural Maine spot and fitting along with the name they have antler chandeliers. Also, an emphasis on wood to give that rustic feel. On to the food; they have a good variety that would make even picky eaters feel like they have options. A huge number of appetizers then salads, burgers, seafood, sandwiches, and desserts. My wife got a bowl of French onion soup and a taco salad while I got their chicken finger luncheon with fries. The taco salad had a great taco seasoning on the meat and the chips tasted fresh. Chicken fingers were tasty with a delicious batter but were surprisingly small. Decent food at decent prices just not any bites I would need to return for. For the area its in, solid but compared to less rural areas I don't think it would stand up.

Our waitress was knowledgeable and give us some good ideas. Water was good and so the selections were mostly typical. As you know, I don't drink they had a large variety of IPAs beers, other alcoholic beverages. They also have mocktails. He did an order of the cheese curds. They were very good at dipping sauce tasted great. I ordered a salad, which was OK and pork filled a bao buns which were very tasty and barbecue juice sauce is not too spicy not too sugary. The whole sauce was very good on the bottom. Just wish it was a bit more. Make sure you have that napkins cause it does leak juice. My Son had the fish and chips. The fish was really well done they say crunchy a good portion of fish. Fries were good too.

It took 45 min for our appetizer to come out, after our server had come over twice to tell us it would be out soon. Then she didn't even bring it out, someone from the kitchen did, the same for our entrees. My steak tips were too tough to chew. My husband had the sampler and his steak was too tough to chew as well, and he said so was the chicken. He said the fish was the best thing on the plate. For me, the smashed potatoes were the best thing on the plate. Oh and the carrots were cold. I have to say, the presentation was beautiful, though. Our server never came back until it was time to give us the check. Never asked how our food was mid meal and never asked if we wanted another drink. All she did was she took our order, falsely told us twice that our appetizer would "be out soon", then we never saw her again until she brought the check. We're not ones to complain to a server so we just paid our bill and left. Our dissatisfaction was reflected in our tip, and we're usually fairly generous tippers. We're not local, but we visit the area a few times a year because my husband has family in the area. We won't go back the next time we're up there.
