We had lunch here today. The eatery is very bright, comfortable, CLEAN, and low-key. Wait staff is friendly and unobtrusive. I ordered the chow mien bowl. It arrived overflowing with tender chicken and nice, fat, al dente noodles with veg. Chicken was tender. I added a little soy sauce for more flavor. Hub had the sweet and sour chicken. I found it to be a standard version of the dish. Both dishes were served fresh and hot. Sweet and sour came with white rice. Prices are reasonable, especially now, with how many restaurants are price gouging. One little thing: the soy sauce they use is really great quality and tastes so much better than what we've had before....need to ask the brand next time. My partner and I like going to tasty pot because it allows us to pick our own soup base. I will say although it's typically one person per pot, it can easily feed 2 with a couple sides. This is the closest hotpot to us and always satisfies my craving if I don't want to go into Portland or make it at home. My partner ordered their sizzling beef once and now it's been a staple! Their stir fry options always look and smell good when coming out of the kitchen so it might have to be a goal of ours to try a couple more vs getting soup every time. I can't remember if the other location has this additional menu, but I don't feel confident that they do. I've had a variety of their drinks and they have not disappointed-- this location and Beaverton. I typically get a passion fruit green tea with jelly. The service is always quick and efficient. I've eaten at tasty pot for quite a while while avoiding shellfish (allergies). I ordered ribs and spicy pork wontins. Within a half hour, I developed an allergic reaction...not severe but uncomfortable rashes. Either the food was cross contaminated or the dishware wasn't cleaned properly. I was really excited to see Tasty Pot here in Vancouver. I'm born and raised from Minnesota and we have a Tasty Pot in Dinkytown so I obviously had to go to scratch that old itch. I ordered the Thai Hot Soup and I really loved the amount of meat that was in it. The soup was a tad bit too sour but it's whatever, I'm biased, it's not gonna stop me from ordering it again because it's my go to flavor. I love this food and the concept. Super flavorful and a big portion for less than $20. Meaty, rich and tons of veggies, tofu, seafood and noodles. Also, the Takoyaki is excellent, but the wontons (in chili), had a bit of an off flavor for me, but I'm sure it's me and that's what they are supposed to be. Gluten free review: There weren't a lot of options for gluten free but what we got was pretty good. Our mouth was Strangely tingly after eating it. My Vancouver staple! I've been here countless times and the service is always quick, servers are attentive, and dishes are consistently good. The hot pots are well-sized and easily shareable between two people. The broths are aromatic and flavorful. The variety of toppings with each bowl is a plus. The meats are fresh. I've had multiple different hot pots from here but my favorite is the Kimchi Dumpling Hot Soup. It's a perfect blend of meats, seafood, and veggies. I could go on and on but let's just say this is one of the better Asian restaurants in Vancouver. Tasty Pot is the same restaurant as Taste of Asia. The food was good. 4 out of 5 stars. Our favorite was the bao (steamed pork buns ~ dim sum). My second favorite was the green beans and garlic dish. Cooked perfectly. Crisp-tender. Third, we liked the beef fried rice. Fourth, we liked the Singapore noodles with chicken. I added the hot chili pepper oil for more of a kick, to the noodles. The place was very busy and noisy. Kid-friendly and family friendly. The service was prompt. We would go there again. I will probably order the bao again. And won ton noodle soup. I've had that before. Yummy. If you're looking for a romantic ambiance, this is not the place. But if you like lively conversation and interaction, and good food, you'll like this place. We didn't order the hot pot selections, because we prefer traditional Asian food. I don't like to have to cook my food. It reminded me of some Korean restaurants where you have to cook your own food. If you're into that, then you'll enjoy the hot pot selections. Many around us ordered from the hot pot menu. We ordered from their regular menu. We did have enough to take home. I really like how this tasty pot has another restaurant inside as well and offer more than just the hot pots like the other chains. The beef hot pot tasted pretty standard. I went with my husband the staff was attentive and helped us get our seat. I ordered the Japanese miso hot pot which came on a cool bowl with a small heat below to keep my food warm. I also loved how much seafood is in this hot pot dish. Easily could be shared with two ppl if you wanted to but I felt the portions were enough and yummy. Despite working at a Taiwanese based company for two decades, I haven't had much exposure to Taiwanese cuisine. Either that, or I haven't been aware of the subtle attributes that differentiate a Taiwanese dish from its Chinese counterpart. That said, my co-workers have all raved about Tasty Pot, declaring it to be distinctly Taiwanese in form and function, and thus it was my assignment...nay, my *duty*, to discover what makes this hotpot so special. And, oh boy, it's something else! There's a lot to unpack on the menu, at first glance, but if you're going with one of the hotpots, it's easy as 1-2-3: 1) Choose your hotpot 2) Choose your side (rice or vermicelli noodles) 3) Choose your spice level Price and size are already factored in; each column becomes slightly larger, and/or more expensive, as you move further right. Everything else is perfunctory: appetizer? extra side of beef tendon? a matcha or boba tea? Tack it on! We added a side of spicy pork dumplings, which were wonderful - especially when paired with the garlic soy and spicy chili sauces found tableside! Within a few minutes, a piping hot bowl of something good will arrive in front of you, perennially-heated by a small gas stove underneath, that will keep your dish at a mouth-blistering temperature the entire time (particularly true the deeper you delve into the bowl!). Be prepared! I went with the Kimchi Dumpling Hot Soup, while my wife ordered the Beef Hot Soup; a surprising choice for her, as I'd expected to see her hovering over a pot practically overflowing with seafood carnage! Regardless, the list of ingredients on any hotpot should be carefully inspected, as while there are some things that seem ubiquitous across all of the options, there are others that are unique to each dish. You can expect tofu and various little mushrooms in basically all of them, while some of the more...exotic components (pork aorta, for example, as well as other difficult-to-identify-without-a-legend ingredients) only appear in certain selections. Even for the squeamish, there's enough good stuff in each bowl that you're pretty much guaranteed to enjoy your meal, even if you may have to pick around a few things. Service was...serviceable; nothing particularly stand out on that front, but hey, it's more of a fast-casual dining experience, anyway - don't expect a host stand at the front. But the real question has, as of yet, been unanswered: what's my take-away from my first conscious experience with Taiwanese cuisine? I was in the neighborhood, and noodles for dinner sounded great, so we decided to stop here. This location used to be called, "Taste of Asia and Tea", and I was a bit alarmed that it appeared to have been a different restaurant, but we decided to give it a go anyway. The interior is EXACTLY the same as the old place, and I was very excited when the waitress brought us two menus: one with the hot pot offerings, and one from Taste of Asia and Tea!!!! This is the same great place as it used to be, but now with additional hot pot options if you want them. The restaurant is meticulously clean, modern, spacious, and inviting. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Service is VERY prompt. The food, without exception, is OUTSTANDING, just like it used to be. Flavors are deep and complex, variety is wide, and you really can't go wrong with anything. One real surprise was the pumpkin pancakes. They had whole slices of real pumpkin, and red bean paste as fillings. I didn't expect them to be anything noteworthy, but they were fantastic. I opted for pork in garlic sauce over noodles. This included some sort of mushrooms whose name I'm not sure of, but everything combined to make a dish that was far more than the sum of its parts. I went in on a cold day after the ice had thawed to get something hot. I had been in here previously when it was Taste of Asia (I think that was the old name) but hadn't been back in a long time. I was sat really quickly and ordered the stinky Tofu hot pot. The server was really friendly and explained their spicy rating scale (it's different everywhere, some places spicy is mid, other places actually are spicy) and ordered it very spicy. It arrived about ten minutes later, very fresh and hot. The soup was incredibly flavorful, packed with ingredients, and they didn't skimp on the good stuff. The wait staff occasionally came by asking if I wanted more broth or noodles for the soup, but it was plenty on its own. It's not everyday you can get stinky tofu locally, and this was really good. This location is better than the Beaverton location. First, they don't have certain hours where they close. They're open for the hours they post and don't close in the middle of the day. A small plus is that they bring out your rice with the food, so your rice doesn't get cold and hard compared to Beaverton. The usual go to is the Taiwanese or Beef. Both come with a ton of food and will get you full. The service was really welcoming and attentive. The food is consistently good and the flavors are very similar to the Tasty Pot in California. I have a few fav hotpots that I like, as well as our staple noodle (Lanzhou noodle) if we don't want to do hotpot. If you have a hotpot for lunch, you get a free drink too!
