i don't even know what to say... the interior design of this place is really bad. my partner and i were seated right next to the door and we constantly felt people brushing onto us and it made me really uncomfortable. i'm autistic and im really sensitive to my surroundings e.g. people walking in and out and large groups trying to leave. so when we saw a table open up, my partner asked the waiter if we could sit to the table next to us. they said no.. but it was weird because the same waiter let the party before us switch seats, to a table away from the door. also did not like how close the cleaning spray was to us. didn't like ordering on the kiosk.. i was going to tip waiter in cash, but after the bad experience, i am glad i did not. :( we waited for our ramen and we were excited, but it was a really small portion size. we finished it really fast then left immediately. i'm not someone who finishes their meals usually, but oh my gosh for the first time i did!! now we are getting taco bell. This ramen really hit the spot and was perfect on a cold day. I'm glad that they had a creamy chicken broth which was exactly what I wanted. I got the cheeky ramen. It was solid and I liked the little kick from the shredded chilies. I got the normal amount of green onion and it was a bit much for me. I ordered on the kiosk outside even though I was dining in. Really solid ramen! We stopped by just before our flight back to Texas, and it was definitely worth the short Uber ride. The broth was rich and flavorful without feeling overly heavy or excessively salty, which made the entire bowl easy to enjoy. Came here on President's day with my daughter before dropping her off at school. Parking is tight so we parked a few blocks away and walked through the rain. We both got the bold ramen, I got it with chicken and she got it with pork. It was very rich and comforting for this rainy afternoon. The chicken was very lean and the egg was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I love the garlic and green onions in it. The noodles were really yummy and this was overall just a great bowl of ramen! The restaurant itself is very small with lots of bar seating and a little bit of table seating. They have great music on that's not too loud. Service is not particularly friendly and you won't see any of the staff go out of there way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. Due to the small restaurant space, there is a wait initially (we waited 15min at 9P) but they have a pretty efficient system where you order/pay on a tablet outside, and the food comes to you when they seat you. My friend and I both ordered the Bold Ramen which is their signature tonkotsu (pork) broth with thin noodles and two pieces of chashu (pork). The broth was good, as well as the noodles and the soft boiled egg, but the chashu pork was a bit on the 'leaner' side compared to other ramen places that's tender/soft. The toppings were bare minimum: tatsu egg, green onions, and fried onions. On the tablet, they allowed you to pick how much garlic and green onion you want, in which I put 'extra' for both, but it didn't feel like there was any extra. Compared to other competitive ramen restaurants seen up and down the street, this felt very subpar for a bowl of ramen that costs $24 dollars (the most my friend and I have ever paid for ramen). Very disappointing experience at Tatsu Ramen on Sawtelle. The broth tasted noticeably watered down, service was slow, and the pricing is difficult to justify. A fairly simple bowl of ramen with an egg and a couple of basic additions can very quickly climb past $25. At that price point, I expect the food and overall experience to be considerably better. Most concerning was the cleaning practice. While customers were actively eating at the counter, an employee was repeatedly spraying cleaning solution directly onto the countertop immediately next to diners, including right beside me. Cleaner was being sprayed around people and their food while they were still eating. Regardless of the product being used, spraying cleaning chemicals in such close proximity to customers actively eating is unpleasant and completely unnecessary. Between the watered-down broth, slow service, surprisingly high price for a relatively simple bowl of ramen, and the careless cleaning practices, this was a disappointing experience. For a restaurant with Tatsu's reputation, I expected much better. I won't be returning. read more

I used to frequent this location back when I was in college and the food is still as delicious as I remembered it being. Ordering and getting seating is efficient using a tablet, especially given the limited seating and how busy it gets here. Service was prompt and straightforward. Parking is usually fine on a weekday but is next to impossible on the weekends since the area gets inundated with students from the surrounding universities. The big draw for me here is how late they stay open (up to 1:00am most nights and up to 2:00am on Saturdays), as well as their Naked Ramen. This was my first introduction to mazemen-style noodles years ago, and will always make this place a favorite for me. Came here late night on a Friday night and they were busy! Luckily we got seated pretty quickly after checking in with the host. Interesting sequence of events because then we ordered on their digital ordering system placed outside of their shop and then was seated. Got their red ramen, old skool ramen, and pork chashu bowl. Ramen came out very hot, great flavor, noodles were perfectly cooked (on the softer side, my preference). Red ramen I thought would be spicy but it wasn't to me. Chashu was tender and lots of volume but it's on the sweeter side. I prefer saltier, more soy flavor so it's not my thing. But definitely filling. It's worth the visit, then you just go from there. Old Skool Ramen: Thin noodle, sizable chashu, wood ear mushrooms, and a smooth tonkotsu broth. It's a well balanced bowl of ramen that doesn't have too much of a thing. The noodle portion was good, the chashu was flavorful and chewy, and the mushroom offers a break through it all. The broth is silky, salty, but surprisingly not too oily. The egg isn't included, so you'll have to order that as an extra. Service: It's straightforward. You order via iPad outside the establishment. You are seated. You're given the food and the occasional water refill. Today's visit....I didn't like that I went to place my order on the kiosk and I was told to wait until I was put on a waitlist. Then people came after me and they ordered and were seated first. We drove off to Sawtelle and braved the tricky parking but found a spot a few blocks away in the neighborhood. It's not too bad! The restaurant itself is pretty small. Some bar seating and some tables off to the side but not much. When we came there wasn't a wait and we were able to be seated immediately. You order off an ipad which is kind of an interesting method, pay on the screen, and they bring your food out to you. I got the Old Skool Ramen because I liked the idea of the mushrooms inside. I got it with the classic pork. You can choose which sauces you want - soy sauce, chili oil, garlic, etc and they bring them out to you on the side for you to add into your ramen. This completely hit the spot. It was so comforting and delicious! I'm not usually a ramen fan because I feel it's way too heavy and salty but this made me change my mind. I didn't feel it was too heavy at all, it was just what I needed. I had a couple sips of the Bold Ramen which my bf got and that was delicious too - I'd probably get that next time to try something new. The Bold Ramen says it has dairy in it but we asked and they said it has just about a tablespoon of butter (we're lactose intolerant but butter is ok). Really loved!!
