Came here on President's day with my daughter before dropping her off at school. Parking is tight so we parked a few blocks away and walked through the rain. We both got the bold ramen, I got it with chicken and she got it with pork. It was very rich and comforting for this rainy afternoon. The chicken was very lean and the egg was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I love the garlic and green onions in it. The noodles were really yummy and this was overall just a great bowl of ramen! The restaurant itself is very small with lots of bar seating and a little bit of table seating. They have great music on that's not too loud. Service is not particularly friendly and you won't see any of the staff go out of there way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. The workers there were very helpful when we had questions about the gluten free options and were very attentive while we enjoyed our meal. You ordered from touch screen kiosk. There are plenty items in the menu and they have couple of ramen option. the one caught my attention is the Birria Ramen. I heard about it but never have it before so we ordered Birria ramen, Bold Ramen and charsiu with rice. Our order was ready pretty quickly. The Birria ramen is unique as it was yummy. As I had Birria before so I can tell it tased the same for the ramen. The bold ramen is also yummy. Interesting sequence of events because then we ordered on their digital ordering system placed outside of their shop and then was seated. Got their red ramen, old skool ramen, and pork chashu bowl. Ramen came out very hot, great flavor, noodles were perfectly cooked (on the softer side, my preference). Red ramen I thought would be spicy but it wasn't to me. I was feeling slightly under the weather and my boyfriend wanted me to try Tatsu for the first time. We drove off to Sawtelle and braved the tricky parking but found a spot a few blocks away in the neighborhood. It's not too bad! The restaurant itself is pretty small. Some bar seating and some tables off to the side but not much. When we came there wasn't a wait and we were able to be seated immediately. You order off an ipad which is kind of an interesting method, pay on the screen, and they bring your food out to you. I got the Old Skool Ramen because I liked the idea of the mushrooms inside. I got it with the classic pork. You can choose which sauces you want - soy sauce, chili oil, garlic, etc and they bring them out to you on the side for you to add into your ramen. This completely hit the spot. It was so comforting and delicious! I'm not usually a ramen fan because I feel it's way too heavy and salty but this made me change my mind. I didn't feel it was too heavy at all, it was just what I needed. I had a couple sips of the Bold Ramen which my bf got and that was delicious too - I'd probably get that next time to try something new. The Bold Ramen says it has dairy in it but we asked and they said it has just about a tablespoon of butter (we're lactose intolerant but butter is ok). Really loved!! I had a genuinely unpleasant experience at Tatsu Ramen that raised serious concerns about how customers are treated. I was such a loyal customer for this specific restaurant. The ordering process uses an iPad at the front. When it was our turn, an employee stopped us and told us we needed to wait to be seated before ordering. However, immediately after that, he allowed another party--who arrived after us--to place their order and be seated without any issue. When we tried to clarify, the employee responded in a dismissive and rude tone: "Don't place your order until I tell you to do so." We were then left standing there with no explanation, while others were helped ahead of us. This wasn't just disorganized--it felt unfair and poorly managed. Basic customer service should include consistency, clear communication, and respect. None of those were present during this interaction. I understand restaurants get busy, but selectively enforcing rules and speaking to customers this way is not acceptable. Haven't been to a Tatsu Ramen in a while and was craving ramen so we decided to go over since it was the only ramen spot nearby open past 10. When we got there I will say we were confused by what to do. We know about ordering on the tablet but it had a sign that said "check in before ordering" so we weren't sure if that meant we had to wait before starting to place our order... and luckily the hostess helped us but it was a little confusing on our end. That's hardly an issue though, and once we placed our order we were given seats and quickly served our drinks. Our food came out not long after, and it was delicious! I got the Red Ramen and it was the perfect level of spice and flavors- (while ordering you are able to pick your level of spice, garlic, green onions, etc. you want in the ramen you order). Inside the restaurant wasn't bad and the outside seating is decently spaced as well. It is a smaller location but I honestly didn't feel too cramped.
