Rose Ave Bakery has been on my radar since early this year! I finally made it to DC this weekend…read moreand this was naturally our first stop. They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. I definitely prefer their Ube and Pandan over the Black sesame donut. The Matcha chocolate croissant and the Ube Kouign Amann were my favorites of the bunch! I cannot recommend them enough, this will surely be my first stop every time I am in DC!

It must be said that I received the items cold and tasted them cold and reheated. Matcha Chocolate Twice Baked croissant - 6/10 - this rating is about my personal taste, not the quality of the croissant. I'm sure this is a matcha lovers dream and I was impressed by how much filling was in the croissant, especially considering the filling didn't affect the texture of the bread. This was good cold but even better reheated. Bread still had a crunch and the filling consistency was great, but again just not my thing. Strawberry milk - 10/10 - can I curse real quick ? £#%K this was delicious. I could put this filling on just about anything and be satisfied. It was rich but not overly sweet and paired really well with the pastry. I do not know how they manage to have the pastry keep its shape with the amount of filling they're putting inside but I appreciate it. The pastry has a great bite to it and the pearls and frosting adding a slight contrast to the texture was needed because too much of one texture creeps me out. I took a look at their menu and absolutely want to try their cookies the mango sweet tart, and the Ube Cheese Kouign Amann so I will be back !

There's something about Washington, D.C. at night -- the air feels thoughtful, almost intentional. The circle was alive but calm, and the simple act of walking without rushing felt like a quiet luxury. The dessert? Perfect. The breeze? Even better. This time we had our baby and I wasn't impressed with the lack of sides or anything to get for her. We asked for two eggs scrambled with cheese but were told we'd have to buy an egg prosciutto sandwich for $11 and tell them we didn't want any of the items. Um, no. The tuna sandwich asked for lettuce and told can't add lettuce. My husband asked for something not on his lamb pita, same story. Oh well. No customization at all, no subs. Makes business easier, but not as attractive for price point for customers. I'll remember to keep it to coffee and pastries from now on. Chicken pita was good, a bit heavy on the parsley but loved the dressing. Tuna sandwich was a hit. Pastries are always good. My pistachio latte was chewy bc it had grainy bits of pistachio in it. Not to my liking. $70 for three sandwiches, two coffees and two cookies.

I recently had time to explore a little while in DC, and a charming PINK building caught my eye…read morewhile taking a walk. I had absolutely no plans on buying or eating cake that day, but as a cake lover stuff happens. It was such a cute building the pastries had to be everything! It turned out to be the perfect stop. 1. The looks The building itself is so cute on the outside, and being a fan of the color pink, it instantly caught my attention. Inside, it feels less like a fast, high volume bakery and more like an intimate cake boutique. It gives small town where the owners know you by your first name. You can feel that real love was put into the space and the baking. Tasted like every ingredient was hand mixed, every cake hand frosted, and every cookie carefully hand scooped. They even served my slice of coconut cake on a real plate, which was such a cute, bourgeois touch that I loved. 2. Service The hospitality here is top-notch. On my first visit, yes you heard me! Lol! The gentleman Eric who rang me up was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different cookie and cake flavors. I ended up returning the very next day, and although he wasn't there, the other two staff members working which included Mikaela were absolutely delightful and so kind. The young lady told me her daughter loves the carrot cake as well and Mikaela said they started working there because they loved the patties so much! 3. The Cakes -Coconut Cake: This slice was so delicious, fluffy, and airy that it instantly reminded me of being a kid at holiday family meals with a fresh coconut cake on the table. -Carrot Cake: It was everything you want a carrot cake to be. It was nice and dense yet soft, with a pleasant texture from the added fruits. Definitely noticed pineapple bits! The cream cheese frosting wasn't overly thick and was so good you could eat it completely by itself. -Strawberry Cupcakes: I stole a small bite of my son's. unfortunately, this one was my least favorite. The frosting had a little chemical taste to it but it was a super cute cupcake. To answer your question, will I return? Absolutely! If you are in the DC area or planning a trip there soon, check this spot out. It truly feels like a mom and pop or pop and pop boutique. Not a bakery but a BOUTIQUE! Check them out! Tell them Anisha from Milwaukee sent you! (Not that they'd remember it just sounds cute!)

I stopped by Caspian Crust in Georgetown for a coffee some pastries last weekend. The bakery is…read morespecial because they specialize in Turkish and Azerbaijani baked goods: börek (with various fillings), pistachio croissant, açma (a soft, fluffy Turkish yeast pastry), qutab (an Azerbaijani/Turkish stuffed flatbread), simit, and so much more. I was so excited to try some of these harder to find pastries. I had a Turkish beef börek and a cheese finger börek. They warmed them up for me, but they still weren't very warm - I'd probably ask for them to warm them up twice next time. The beef börek was good; the cheese finger börek was good, too, if maybe a teensy bit dry. I also got one of their signature coffees. While these coffees sound interesting and delicious and creative, I wish there an option or two that weren't as sweet. I tried the Sultan's Velvet, which was just way too sweet for me. Next time, I'll stick to a classic coffee - an americano or a cappuccino - since they have it all. There's quite a bit of seating - some downstairs, some upstairs, and some outside. I sat down and read my book while I enjoyed my pastries. It's definitely the kind of place that is comfortable to sit and enjoy. The customer service was friendly and fast. Overall, I'm glad I stopped by Caspian Crust. Georgetown is lucky to have several pastry shops/bakeries, but Caspian Crust is different and stands out. Its focus on Turkish and Azerbaijani pastries means that there's something for everyone - some classics for those folks who like what they like with their coffee, more savory pastries with meat or cheese or olives, and some sweet but less common pastries as well. Great flavors and variety. It's also cozy, comfortable, and casual, with good customer service. I'd be happy to return.

We were lucky enough to snag some goodies and got a bit of everything, we just weren't patient enough to wait to photograph everything. We did the Za'atar Gruyère Croissant, chocolate croissant, the cheese biscuit item they had (don't remember exact name) and the sfogliatelle. I'm in search of the best croissant in DC, so I regret not getting the regular croissant on this visit, but the chocolate croissant gave me an idea of what to expect. Buttery, flaky, crispy, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The typical chocolate croissant was my personal favorite. When we asked what the most popular items were, we were surprised it wasn't the more classic bakery items, but we enjoyed what we tried. We want to go back soon to try some other items as well. My friend got a coffee and also enjoyed that! This is the perfect place to stop by for a treat if you make it in time!
