Other than the spacious seating options (both outdoor and indoor), I was quite disappointed by the food and drink that I got. The iced tea was pretty flavorless and my apple scone came out cold. The giant almond croissant is memorable; it's crispy and almondy. And yes, it's called "giant"! I got a savory cheese turnover, and it's an interesting creation. I heated it up later and found it to be hearty and satisfying. A chocolate chip cookie was dry and old, below par. 10/10 This was the juiciest croissant I've ever come across. The sandwich I got was absolutely phenomenal. It was buttery and moist and melted in my mouth. I felt like remy in that one scene when he combined the berry and cheese. The flavors of this delicious sandwich were amazing. I've had a not so pawsome week and this surely made it 10x better. Cute bakery/cafe in the neighborhood. Their pistachio croissant is definitely their specialty. The croissant itself was more bread-y and less of the tender flakes I've gotten used to in Europe, but tasty in its own way. The neon green pistachio filling is a bit too bright for my taste, but really enjoyed the pistachio crumb topping on top. Also one of the largest coffee syrup selections I have seen. Nice neighborhood spot if you're craving breakfast carbs! The egg and cheese croissant (add sausage) was large and tasty. They advertise that they use only cage-free eggs, but I can't say I noticed the difference. Croissant was flaky and held up well to the other sandwich elements. Iced latte was very good and generously sized. I noticed they used paper straws, and they asked us whether we wanted drinks in to-go cups or were okay with having them to stay, so it seems like they're putting efforts into sustainability, which I appreciate. I've been here a bunch of times, mostly because I love macarons and it's one of their specialties. I would go occasionally when I was in the neighborhood, but have since moved up the street and will go for lunch or when I want a treat. It is a bit too pricey, so it's not a place I frequent with much regularity. Generally, the food is pretty good. I much prefer their desserts to their sandwiches, although they had a chicken and avocado sandwich on a croissant this past summer that was excellent, but don't seem to carry it anymore. The sandwiches come with chips (sadly just a small container of Pringles). I've recently started really enjoying the grand mere cookies, particularly the strawberry and lavender. They're hearty and packed with flavor without being overly dry. I used to love getting a half dozen macaron in an assortment of flavors (I usually prefer raspberry, blueberry, coconut, and vanilla) but the most recent time I got them they just weren't what I remembered. The cookie part didn't have the same crust as a macaron should and the filling was different, as if it was more like whipped cream than the traditional jam or more solid filling. Given how expensive they are, I have stopped ordering macaron from them. The service is generally fine, the staff isn't particularly friendly but I haven't found them to be overly rude. However, there was an incident on my most recent visit when I inquired about the chicken avocado sandwich I had had over the summer, and they were confused and a bit terse with me that they no longer offered it. They also didn't tell me that the sandwich came with chips in the container and were a little too pointed at having me drop the bag of chips I grabbed, thinking that was what I was getting. This is a very cute bakery with pastries and cakes that all look scrumptious! We went with cakes because they looked so delicious; however the red velvet cake tasted very old and not at all delicious. The tiramisu was very good and a generous portion size. We were there around 3:30, close to the 4pm closing time, but it was disappointing that at least one of their cakes was not fresh at all. I love this place!!! It's walking distance to my apartment and a little gem in Columbia Heights. My favorite so far has been the pistachio macaron they use the real stuff and it's absolutely delicious! I have had the hazelnut and pistachio croissant , baklava, and the pistachio macarons. The macaroons tasted, and I'm not exaggerating like they had been sprayed with windex or some kind of floor cleaner. For $3.25 a macaroon this was quite an expensive waste of money. I've been living nearby for the last two years and nearly always have a terrible experience in my dozen+ visits. It costs an insane $11 for an egg bacon croissant, but the price fluctuates from sloppiness and mistakes on orders are made about half of the time. I never know what I will get or how much they will up-charge me. The wait is sometimes incredible - 20 minutes or more even when no one is there. Best croissants in DC - that's why I keep going back to Le Caprice. They're fresh, flaky, not soggy, and have a nice butter flavor. The chocolate croissants are very good as well. Everyone goes to Whole Foods these days for cakes and tartes, but I'd recommend this place instead. I've had their pear tarte (similar to a Tarte au Pommes), which was fantastic and a big hit to the people we brought it to. Had a nice almond flavor in addition to the pear. Also had a fruit tarte, which was flavorful. The baguettes and loaves of bread are also very good and fresh, but are expensive. Same story for the cookies and macarons. Sometimes we buy boxes of cookies for parties, and they're big crowd pleasers (just pricey). That said, I subtract one star for the coffee and espresso drinks, which are subpar, frankly. This place is SO good on baked goods, and if it had great coffee, there would probably be lines out the door all the time. I'd recommend investing in a good espresso machine like a La Marzocco and some good coffee like Counter Culture/Stumptown/Sterling whatever. It's too bad to have to go somewhere else for good coffee. The owners are very nice, are around frequently, and will tell you more about each pastry if you ask. read more
