Rose Ave Bakery has been on my radar since early this year! I finally made it to DC this weekend and this was naturally our first stop. They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. I definitely prefer their Ube and Pandan over the Black sesame donut. The Matcha chocolate croissant and the Ube Kouign Amann were my favorites of the bunch! My friend loves to bring me goodies to try out from the city when they visit and this was such a welcomed treat ! I can't speak to the service or location much because I didn't go. It must be said that I received the items cold and tasted them cold and reheated. Matcha Chocolate Twice Baked croissant - 6/10 - this rating is about my personal taste, not the quality of the croissant. I'm sure this is a matcha lovers dream and I was impressed by how much filling was in the croissant, especially considering the filling didn't affect the texture of the bread. This was good cold but even better reheated. Bread still had a crunch and the filling consistency was great, but again just not my thing. Strawberry milk - 10/10 - can I curse real quick ? £#%K this was delicious. I could put this filling on just about anything and be satisfied. It was rich but not overly sweet and paired really well with the pastry. I do not know how they manage to have the pastry keep its shape with the amount of filling they're putting inside but I appreciate it. The pastry has a great bite to it and the pearls and frosting adding a slight contrast to the texture was needed because too much of one texture creeps me out. Visited Rose Ave Bakery in DC on a busy weekend after a friend recommended it, and we ended up waiting in line--which was worth it. The space is a pretty cute, modern café with cherry blossom décor and a great mix of sweet and savory pastries. We honestly tried almost everything Garlic Scallion Bun - Soft, lightly toasted with just the right crunch. Inspired by a Taiwanese garlic bun, it was super easy to eat and one of my favorites (9/10). Matcha Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - A rectangular croissant absolutely loaded with matcha and chocolate, topped with matcha powder. It was almost a bit too heavy on the matcha for me, and the bitterness overpowered the chocolate. Banana Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - Banana cream on top with banana chocolate inside. Pretty straightforward--tasted exactly like what you'd expect from a banana chocolate croissant. Ube Cheese Kouign Amann - Unique sweet-and-savory combo. The ube adds a subtle sweetness while the cheese gives it a creamy balance. Rich and slightly dense, and I just wished there was a bit more filling to balance the pastry. Miso Garlic Salted Bread - One of my top picks. Savory, buttery, and paired with a slightly sweet brioche-like base that balances everything really well. Elote Bread - Corn-topped savory bread with a nice sweetness and texture. This and the miso garlic bread were tied for my favorites. Strawberry Passionfruit Kouign Amann - Fruity and rich, but a bit filling overall. I just wished there was more filling to balance the pastry. Sugared Donut - Simple and classic, just a soft, sugary donut done right. Drinks: * Strawberry Matcha & Mango Matcha - Both layer fruit puree with matcha, but the flavors stay quite separate rather than blending together. * Vietnamese Coffee with Cold Foam - Strong coffee base with strawberry-flavored cold foam. It's pretty sweet overall with less of a coffee-forward taste, but still smooth and enjoyable. * White Mocha Latte - More coffee-forward compared to the sweeter drinks, which I actually preferred. Overall, I loved my visit--great spot for both savory and sweet pastries with creative flavor combinations and a lot to try. Rose Ave Bakery is the best bakery I've ever been to! They have a huge selection of Asian inspired pastries, with really unique and complex offerings. I tried 5 of their pastries - the butternut squash curry one, miso honey garlic salt bread (my favorite!), elote, mochi donut holes, and ube kouign amann. They were all great, with the butternut squash and miso garlic honey ones being the standouts. There was a line out the door the whole time we were there, but it moved fairly quickly. There is limited seating with limited space due to the large line. I would absolutely return. This place is seriously so awesome! read more

We ordered six pastries My favorites were the s'mores croissant and the corn chili elote donut which says a lot because I'm usually not into donuts or s'mores-flavored desserts. The donuts themselves were light and perfectly sugared, but I did wish there was a bit more filling overall. The corn chili elote donut had the most toppings by far, which is probably why it ended up being my favorite. The s'mores croissant was a standout the chocolate filling was more of a pudding-like texture and paired perfectly with my morning coffee. Flavor-wise, they really nailed it. Such a spacious and beautiful bakery--plenty of seatings. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Saigon Banana Latte and it was really good with truly having the banana flavor shine through. For bakery goods I ordered the Pandan Coconut Sticky Rice and it is phenomenal. Satisfies my Pandan craving and love the "chè" texture that this dessert gives. Nothing really flavorful and a bit more dense than I was expecting it. The standout continues to be the black sesame cookie, nice and nutty and balanced with the sugar cookie base. Service Fast and they know how to keep the line moving. Granted we were there right when it opened and even when the line is busy they make sure that you are never waiting too long. I love the pastries here!! The passionfruit donut is my favorite- so fluffy and delicious! The passionfruit cream is tart and sweet - the perfect combo. You can't go wrong. It is both salty with the right of mount of just texture and it's just perfect for a breakfast sandwich. I always pair my salty with a little sweet and indulge and a yummy doughnut. This time I decided to add on a another treat and got their seasonal favorite of their crab Rangoon. It was a very interesting delight. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here. They have a full Service coffee bar as well with some fun options to choose from apart from your standard selection. The one thing I will warn you is that you definitely want to get here early as the line can be quite long and it can get quite busy within the restaurant. The cutest little bakery in NW DC. I was intentional about visiting Rose Avenue Bakery since I rarely visit Woodley Park. The atmosphere was light, and fun. The Scallion added a nice flavor to a traditional egg and cheese. The Passion Fruit and Pandan Coconut donuts did not disappoint as our sweet options. Totally worth the hype and my favorite bakery in DC. I got a box of goodies - everything was good and the Ube and Pandan donuts and Thai Curry Tart were the highlights! The fluffy donuts taste like beignets with cinnamon sugar coating, the Pandan has a sweet coconutty flavor while the Ube tastes like a subtle vanilla custard. Came at a 2pm on Saturday, unfortunately their banana flavors were already gone. We ordered the earl gray matcha and mango matcha latte. Both were really delicious! The early gray matcha was heavier on the earl gray than the matcha flavor so I wished the matcha shown through a bit more. Mango matcha had the perfect balance of matcha and mango and the mango made the drink slightly thicker. We really enjoyed the pandan donut as the pandan had a pretty strong flavor. And since I now work from DC twice a month I get to sample a wide range of their products. Let's start with the best things I've had: the curry squash tart, the mango curd and basil donut, the pumpkin and cream cheese kouign amann. All so good they make you want to get back in line and order another. These are pastries that live rent free in my head. Everything else is still better than what you can get almost anywhere, but those are my standouts. Even my local DC friends have slept on this gem in Adams Morgan - so if that is you, you should make a trip soon. Especially for the fall treats. read more

This is an asian woman owned bakery that also offers specialty drinks. Went here on a Sunday late morning with friends and the line was out the door. I thought they were going to run out of certain items but they just temporarily remove things from the display when they are not available between batches. I got the ube and strawberry passionfruit kouign amann. These were very dense and had a bit of spread but it was not completely filled like the donuts. Of the variety of donuts available, we tried the ube donut and this was a very light and fluffy donut but filled with ube cream. Among the savory pastries, we selected the garlicy scallion bun and the miso salt bread. My favorite was the miso salt bread because it was light and crispy with good flavor. However, you can't go wrong with the scallion bun (they also have options to add egg and cheese to it too to make it into a breaky sandwich). Overall, pretty solid bakery to get some Asian inspired baked goods/drinks in the area. I would definitely come back here and try more of their savory goods, as well as the variety of teas/lattes that they offer. Coco Berry Basil-not your everyday Donut-pricey and worth a try given the mix of flavors that you won't find at your local Donut spot-we loved it! Matcha Chocolate Chip cookie-again, not your everyday cookie and delicious, Crab Rangoon Tart-flaky pastry filled with Crab mixture hit the spot. I've always had such a wonderful experience at the Rose Ave bakery. The last time my mom was visiting from Georgia, I was so disappointed because you were closed. Needless to say I was super excited to bring her here today. Unfortunately, the barista creating my drink really ruined the experience. I ordered an Earl Grey Matcha Latte, which I've ordered before and really enjoyed. This time, they forgot to add the Earl Grey. When I informed the barista, she assured me it was added. When I told her again that it didn't taste like it, the other barista shared they hadn't added the Earl Grey mix yet. The first barista then poured some of the mix into a small metal pitcher and handed both the pitcher and the drink back to me. For those who don't know, the small is about $8.00. So I looked at her and she told me she didn't know how much of the mix to put into the drink. The other barista then asked me if I wanted a new drink. At which point, the first barista said no, then essentially said I could choose how much of the mix I wanted to be added. I then asked her to just make the drink as described on the menu. At which point, she poured my small drink into a larger cup and dumped the mix into it. She didn't stir it or anything-she just handed the drink in the over sized cup back to me. All along, she acted as though I was asking for the world, so I told her to forget about it. I even tried to be ok with the drink. But it didn't taste right-and the experience was already ruined. Such a shame, because it really is a beautiful cafe. But what's the point if you're not going to have beautiful, or at least adequate customer service. She later apologized after I came back and asked for the refund. read more
