free hand work done by Brandon
    Jon B.

It's been over 10 years since my last tattoo. I've been feeling that itch to get some ink done for a while now. So I gave Brandon a holler. I went in last week for a consultation. I gave him a couple ideas and he provided me a couple of sketches to choose from. I made a follow up appointment for the session today. When I arrived I was on the fence about the location of the tattoo, but Brandon assured me that because it was just line work it would be minor. I chose to put my tattoo on the inside of my bicep. I decided to go old school, so just simple black ink. He prepped my arm with the usual - alcohol wipe then shave. Brandon laid the outline on my arm and began to get to work. When that needle first hit my arm, it was minor. The feeling is comparable to getting pinched. The total session lasted about an hour. My tattoo measures about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide. It was entirely line work, I think if it was shading the pain might have been different! Brandon is a true professional to his craft. He understood my ideas and translated them unto his canvas - my arm. I will definitely be returning to see Brandon! Thanks for the session!

Great place to get inked! I got both my tattoos here, both by Brandon. Very comfortable atmosphere, there's no pressure to get something you don't want. The chairs and the equipment are very clean, they wrap the chairs in plastic wrap so you don't sweat and bleed all over them :) I say pay them a visit, take a look at the art and decide for yourself whether or not a tattoo is right for you.

@eighty8tattoos (Haru) made me the cutest little dinosaur tattoo. He was a joy to work with. Personable, great during the design collaboration, and so sweet throughout the process. The tattoo turned out great and I'm so excited to have my little Dino buddy on my arm. I highly recommend working with him-- it was a great experience. Clean and comfortable studio.

I have gotten 4 tattoos here and every time the artwork and atmosphere were both amazing. The first 3 were done by *Sheri and the fourth by Brandon (I have another appointment set up with Brandon already)There are no bad artists at Tattoo Artisans Honolulu, Joe (the owner) simply would not allow it. I live on the mainland and refuse to go anywhere else for my tattoos!

My first tattoo! Thank you, Brandon!

Knowing full well that a tattoo is, well, a tattoo and permanent; I made sure I put not only a lot of thought into what I was getting, but what shop I would go to. I wanted one close to home, but that was well known, clean, reasonably priced and was known for good art work. Brandon did not disappoint at all. Not only was he attentive to my needs and what I wanted as a tattoo, but he also made sure I wasn't uncomfortable. He made the experience so much more memorable by staying personable and and constantly cracking jokes - not while he was tattooing, of course. Considering that I wanted a tattoo behind my ear, he didn't have a lot of canvas to paint on; but he was able to incorporate everything I wanted. I have not a single bad thing to say about my experience. Not only did I get the tribal style to memorialize my time living here on Oahu, but I also had the best experience possible.

First time for my boyfriend and my second tattoo. Came in and was greeted by Haru. Super nice guy. We filled out papers, finalized how we wanted our tattoos to look & what not. Haru set up and was really quick. He's very friendly and the type of person you can just talk story with. Since it was my bf's first tattoo, he went slow and showed him how the pain would be. Very personable & we will be coming back to him for our next tattoo.

Went there for the first time yesterday with my mom for some tattoos. I wanted a phrase on my arm and my mom wanted turtles. I had my font picked out and my mom didn't know what design she wanted for her turtles. Brandon showed me some of his script tattoos, and they were a hundred times nicer than the font i had picked, so I got my tattoo in his script. For my mom's turtles, he designed an original and they were really nice! We also wanted to check how clean they were, and they were very very sanitary. Their equipment were all in sterile packaging and he cleaned the seats and everything else very thoroughly. Once he started tattooing us, it was a blast! Brandon was super funny, and the atmosphere was very comforting. It didn't seem like it was our first time meeting him, and that helped as well. He was very light handed, and the pain wasn't bad at all! We had a lot of fun, and will definitely be returning.

My family and I have been coming here for years. We got tattoos and piercings from Sheri when she used to work here, but have now been getting out tattoos from Brandon! Brandon is awesome at what he does and is a super cool guy. He's very perceptive to your vision, yet still puts in his creative input. He does amazing traditional tattoos, but also did our pieces that weren't his usual style, and they still looked great. The location is prime; close to Safeway/Starbucks/other eateries and its a nice, sanitary shop. Def. recommend Brandon!

Been over 13 years since I got my last tattoo. Haru worked with me on exactly what I wanted and got the detail perfect. He is very welcoming and a brilliant artist. Will definitely be going back to see him again. Shop is conveniently located in Kapahulu across from Taco Bell.

UPDATE: Came back, Brandon is STILL THE MAN! I got my existing tattoo touched up & got another piece. I can't imagine going anywhere else for ink.

She had an appointment with Britt who was awesome. Britt walked my daughter through what to expect, she answered her questions and was really patient with her as my daughter went back and forth about wanting to get it done. My daughter ended up feeling comfortable enough to decide to go for it and the experience was great. Super fast and low pain. While I know there are cheaper places to get your kids ears pierced, it was worth it to me to have the knowledge and comfort that came with booking with HPC and Britt, in particular. Would suggest them to anyone looking to get a piercing. PS- the shopping experience was also super great. The person working the retail area showed my daughter lots of options and talked through pros and cons of different styles of earrings as her first set. My daughter and I were both happy with what she selected. Also really appreciated the education given regarding after care and how my daughter can take care of her piercings.

Shoutout to Brit for installing so many sparklies in my face and ears and piercing me as well. Everyone I've interacted with has been pleasant, patient, and very informative. I've always felt safe in their piercer's hands (and gloves)! As for the studio itself, it's a really pretty space to be in. The shop is super clean and features a nice mural from a local artist. The jewelry are all in very shiny display cases. The jewelry selection is also sooo awesome. It's all body safe/implant grade materials (think gold and titanium). Coolest studio I've ever been in. I know I'll be back to get some more pretty pieces soon!

You have got to be kidding me, but I always wanted to go to Lisa the only reason why I call other places in the first place is because they open it on the little bit later side and I wanted to get it done as soon as possible but long story short EVERYWHERE else has crazy inflation prices... Lisa is seriously the only person that I remember it being the same amount from 10 years ago that is so crazy honestly I feel like she should make everything at least $10 more That's how good her services, she ain't even answered all my questions that I have about why my industrial fill out before and all that this is literally my first good review normally I only review places when it's like extremely bad not just a little bad I can handle that but if it's like the worst place I've ever been to then I have to write something to one others but Lisa is my first good review and I'm very thankful that she took me in as a walk-in and had me out within 10 minutes maybe even 5 minutes at the most thanks again Lisa :) PS she even exited the tipping screen and said to not worry about tipping her but of course I want to~she already has her prices ridiculously cheap.. "I'm wearing short sleeves, I don't want to expose my tattoos."…read more-Jerry Seinfeld Well now I DO wanna wear short sleeves to let my new honu peek out a bit! Been wanting to get a honu ink'd to remind me of where I came from... where home really is. Everytime I go back, I run out of time or just didn't want to give up the beach day. This time the whole fam was IN... when I explained my design concept, both my wife and daughter wanted their own version, still honu themed. da Scene: Determined to get this done done during the 16 day visit back home on Oahu, I did my research early and narrowed it down to 3 spots initially. After some dm's, email exchanges and finally some voice calls, it was Lai @ Tattoo Hawaii who I connected with most, so we scheduled an in-person consult and then our sessions, with 2 days left on our trip - only lost 1 beach day (it was a perfect one too). da Service: Every contact before our session was courteous and replied to promptly. I did have to be insistent on Lai doing our work, even if it meant spanning multiple days. His work on social media and Yelp! most connected with me. At our consult he explained how he would approach my design concept and adapt it to my wife and daughter. Lai was confident he could get us all done in one afternoon/evening session. The shop is tucked away on the 2nd floor of a little building on the corner of Kapiolani and Piikoi... parking is a challenge, so arrive early to wait out a spot. The shop is comfortable and can accommodate 3-4 artists working, with friends looking on in support. da Work: Kai was up 1st as hers would be the least complicated. She went with 3 petroglyph style honu, each about 3.5" diameter, ink'd fairly heavy - vertically on her upper arm, pretty classic design. She has several tattoos already and was surprised that Lai didn't work with a stencil... he simply free-handed the design with several pens, directly on your body. He's a very cool, confident cat, laid back and within minutes has you chatting it up like you went to high school together. I went next as my wife wanted to see how mine's worked out to help solidify her concept. Lai drew a honu/dragon/shark tooth design on my upper arm and I said "go for it". 2.5 hours later I was stunned at the fine details he added to the shark's teeth encircling the honu shell, as well as tribal accents in the honu, while incorporating the dragon profile. It really was satisfying to see my concept executed closely, while adding style and depth, bringing it to life. Carla was last up and really wanted to stick close to what I had done... just smaller and wanted the dragon to "pop" more. As you can see, Lai nailed it... however subtle, the dragon does appear more prominent on her piece. da Wrap: Really happy all-around, already thinking about how to add to it, maybe add color, grow it further down my arm, how to add to the story. It's a very personal thing and I really suggest you take your time to research and find the right artist. I'm confident that you'll find the right one at Tattoo Hawaii. We were there most of the day and saw several folks and artists' work, there was actually one guy there the whole time getting a large whole body piece worked on with a manual tattoo tool, that's an investment! HUGE shout out to Lai for making our sessions so enjoyable and comfortable... When he found out it was my and my wife's 1st work, he said he was honored to be 1st... such a humble guy, great disposition. We'll see you soon brother!

All of their jewelry was stored in plastic containers where the employees were just digging through, without gloves (SO unsanitary), to find the jewelry that the customers wanted. I wanted titanium flat backs because I'm allergic to sterling silver and I don't heal well if it is pierced with steel. The girl who pierced me looked through all the containers before finding 3 gold colored titanium flat backs with silver colored titanium ball toppers. The piercing process started out okay, she cleaned off the area, although not very thoroughly, and marked where she was going to pierce and let me see before she started the process. I don't think they sterilized the jewelry before they pierced me either, even though different, ungloved, employees were digging around in the jewelry boxes just before. She opened a new needle and started on my lobes, these were pretty smooth. The biggest issue came when she started on my mid helix. Told me take a deep breath and she pushed the needle through, then went to guide the jewelry in, but could only get it HALFWAY. I heard her whisper "oh shoot" under her breath before proceeding to try multiple times to push the jewelry all the way through. She asked the other guy, Jay, for help and they both stood there pushing my ear around for a solid 3 minutes before the jewelry was fully through. It was a while before the piercing was done, I could feel the blood on my ear slipping around while he essentially tried to repierce it with the jewelry. Neither of them used a clamp, or even a tube to catch the needle as it went through to the other side, just used their hands which I could feel were slipping off my ear. To top it all off, my mom told me after that they used the same needle for all three of my piercings, super unsanitary! I've gotten thick cartilage piercings done before this (rook, nostril, helix) and I have NEVER had an experience like this. I will not be coming back here, not even for my jewelry changes. The only good thing I would say about this experience was that the lady at the front was polite and friendly, and the girl who pierced me was also nice, I just wish the process of the actual piercing was a bit cleaner and smoother. I hope nobody else has an experience like this, and I hope my piercings don't get infected.
