One of the few places open on a weekday after 9PM in Mankato. Lots of tables and bar area. A dozen or so TVs with sports running. The table service was friendly but slow as they got hit with the after game crowd. The food came out quick though after ordering. We had the queso with chips and they offer pita option too(nice add of seasoned beef). The bowl was large .. we asked and received more chips. Then we went for the boneless wings ... two orders of 12 with four different flavors. The bang bang was meh. The teriyaki and Korean bbq were good. But for me the bourbon glaze was smack ... serious bourbon flavor. read more

I've been sleeping on this place. The burger I had was delicious and the warm toffee cake was amazing. It's a great casual dining/ bar situation. I feel like it could be a fun place to have a drink and watch the game if that's your thing. read more

Tav is a regular on our local restaurant rotation and it never disappoints. They recently updated their menu to include some new menu items. I tried their new Bang Bang Shrimp tacos and they were delicious, they definitely had a spicy bang which I loved. Super fries are a staple app that come with ranch dipping sauce. They have the best ranch around, imo. I tried their margarita, they have an option to upgrade to house infused tequila which I did. Their jalapeño infused margarita was my favorite drink I have had there! Definitely recommend but it is very spicy so not for the faint of heart. Service is always attentive and friendly. Tab on the Ave looked like a very popular place and when we arrived it appeared that the reviews were on point because the parking lot was full and the restaurant was packed. We sat at the bar and enjoyed good service from the bar tender. He didn't seem to want to chat but I give him a break because he was busy. There are tvs everywhere in this place. There are at least two separate dining/bar areas that I could see and the one we sat in had 13 TVs so if you want to watch a game you ought to be able to enjoy it here! It is loud but that is expected for a sports grill. The decor is inviting and we felt really comfortable. The menu had so many good sounding options we struggled to pick but landed on a burger and chips and a chicken Philly with fries. Both were darn good! I could only eat half the Philly and fries so I enjoyed it the next day for lunch. The service was pretty fast too. The drinks were pricy but the food seemed to be about average for an establishment like that. The one downside is that I think they need to work on their ventilation system. The restaurant smelled so heavily of grilled and fried food that we left with a thick layer of that smell and it stayed with us the entire day which was very irritating. I will definitely be back when the weather is nice and I can sit outside. read more

My spouse and I dined there for the first time last night and it was, by far, the worst and most overpriced meal I've ever had. The garlic fries arrived cold and were doused with canned, cold chopped garlic. The tacos and quesadilla, as well as the wild rice chicken soup weren't even room temperature but stone cold. We mentioned this to the server, who spoke to her manager, and rather than taking these items off our bill, merely took 20% off each one. The bill, plus tip, was over $100. Avoid this place and go to Arby's instead. read more

Tav on the Ave had always been a favorite stop of ours when we were in the Mankato area. This time, our dining experience was terrible. Our group of 4 had stopped for an enjoyable evening on 11/27/2024 around 7:30. Surprisingly , there wasn't many customers dining and our wait to be seated was only 5 minutes. It was not a busy night compared to other times we had dined there. Our waitress, (we will call her E)- her service was less than mediocre. It took over 15 minutes to place our food portion of our order while I watched our waitress complain to coworkers, mess around with the popcorn machine, hang out by the bar, suck up to the only table full of people behind us, etc. We eventually had to flag down a bartender just to ask for our waitress to take our order. We jokingly asked if she had forgotten about us and "E" didn't apologize for the delay- she curtly responded with "I have other tables to serve." We observed our food sitting on the kitchen pick up window for 5-10 minutes before it was brought to our table by the bartenders. The Food was great but lukewarm. She didn't stop to check on how our food was, ask for refills on sodas or if we needed anything else until we were almost finished with our meal. The bill was the quickest item " E" brought to our table the entire evening. Our dining experience was extremely long and very unpleasant. We won't be back. Note- negative reviews via word of mouth can spread rather quickly. I rounded up the score to 2 stars because of the food and definitely not the service. read more

We went here while working in Mankato it was after lunch rush so the staff was doing other tasks and was not so attentive . The place is decorated in old school Mankato bar grill .dank and dark lots of posters and beer lights " not my style " but the burgers were good not great! everything had a sysco feel would not go back Note to owner if you are open have staff there to wait on people not clean up for next shift read more

Very expensive for what you get. The wings had no sauce. Literally maybe a teaspoon or less. Long Islands are VERY sweet and VERY expensive. They aren't even filled to the top of the glass. I got a French dip which was good but the "world famous" waffle fries were cold and floppy. Disgusting. It may have been sitting in the window too long waiting for my husband's food because his was super hot. Beware - there's a surcharge for absolutely everything. All in all we were very disappointed. When it took about 5 minutes for someone to finally come seat us and a long line of people behind us, I should have seen this as a sign to go somewhere else. We came before Vikings Training Camp to get this four dollar glass for my sister so of course we had to stay. Our food was alright and it came out at a decent time but it was SO not worth it for the price! After all the "additional charges" our 3 meals (a sandwich with fries, a wrap with fries, and a basket of wings) along with one beer came out to 56 dollars!! That was just insane and the meal wasn't worth that much at all. After feeling like I was severely overcharged and that all I was left with was a 60 dollar Vikings glass, I would not be back. This place is too expensive and the food is not worth it. I would look somewhere else for sure. read more

We have been visiting The Tav regularly for over 20 years. It was one of our favorite places to go in college at MSU and as a young married couple. When our daughter was born 13 years ago, our favorite server Tasha (now a Mankato Independent Originals business partner), used to carry her around for us so we could enjoy a little "alone" time as a couple. She was fantastic. :) If I'm being truthful, I'd have to say it's lost a little bit of its charm over the years. The days of that personalized service are gone. I miss the menu classic "Blackjack Melt" and "Blue Whale" cocktail (the souvenir whales doubled as tub toys for our kids!). I wonder if the Tav is resting on its laurels just a bit. ETA: On our latest visit there, the server said they still do offer the Blue Whale. Maybe their specialty drinks should still be included on the menu. That said, it is still one of our favorite local spots. They still offer free popcorn and board games to keep kids busy while we wait. The menu has a little bit more diversity than the typical Mankato bar/grill, which we appreciate. Our new favorites are the Cubano, the Thai Lettuce Wraps, and the Sashimi Ahi Tuna. The wings are arguably the best in town. A Mankato favorite, you really can't go wrong. read more

Well... let's start with the negatives. The drinks are overpriced. I'm fine paying more for a drink if it's made well but these were poor. Looks like the long islands are pre-made which is a big no no. The mojitos were about as bad as the Cleveland Browns. We saw on the menu, "Best Wings in MN"... gave it a try. The barbecue and spicy garlic was terrible! Worse than Bdubs and Bdubs is average. That needs to be taken off the menu. Pub 500 has good wings if that's what you are looking for in Mankato. The positives? We tried the chicken Alfredo which was good. The sauce isn't the best but still a good meal. Our waitress was good so that was nice as well. Would I come back? Honestly, probably not. There are better restaurants in Mankato that are cheaper and have a better quality of food. read more

This place should change their name from Tav on the Ave to Additional Charge on the Boulevard. I really, really wanted to like this place. They have a nice patio and a happy hour - what more could we ask for? Unfortunately, after we got several surprises on the bill, we all felt nickel and dimed to the point where we won't go back. (I recommend bringing your own food to the Mankato Brewery for awesome beer and happy-hour prices all day every day). A group of us stopped into Tav on the Ave to enjoy happy hour on their patio. The drink prices were not great - but the appetizer prices were good so we started with onion rings and cheese curds... both were about what you'd expect. Good - but not because they were gourmet - good because they were deep fried anything. We all ordered veggie burgers - two plain and one with cheese. My wife asked for sauerkraut and I asked for a side of barbecue sauce. The burgers come with chips - and the menu says it's 1.50 extra for fries. When two of us ordered fries, the waitress asked what kind of fries we wanted and listed some pretty amazing choices. I ordered sweet potato and my friend ordered waffle-cut. My wife asked for a salad - which the waitress said would be extra. Everything was about what you'd expect - with the exception of the salad. I think this salad was one of the first salads ever invented. All the lettuce was brown around the edges - the carrot shavings had dried out - and the croutons were petrified. I know gerbils that wouldn't have eaten this salad. The food, other than the salad, was fine. Then we got the bill. Each of us had been additional charged to the tune of about 10% on our bill... the fries weren't 1.50 extra, they were 2.50 extra. The 1.50 was for french fries. Specialty fries were 2.50 extra... which is fine if it's printed or your waitress tells you. It is not fine when someone says I want fries to offer them a selection and not tell them that there is an additional additional charge for most of them. Inedible salad? 3 bucks. Barbecue sauce? Extra. Sauerkraut? Extra. The only reason I gave them two stars is because the service was fantastic. We won't be back. read more

I ordered pick up, called at 11:00 am and ordered 2 burgers with kettle chips...sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes waiting for our food, finally had to get out and go inside and get it myself...no apologies for the wait or for having to come in and get the food, terrible customer service, won't come here ever again read more

This was my husband's pick and it was based on the amount of cars in the parking lot. In hind-site I believe the amount of cars had way more to do with the idea of it being a SPORTS bar and a sunday during football season! I was rather shocked that they actually had a gluten free menu....but the server was pretty vapid and really didn't have a grasp of the menu (hired more for looks than kowledge I am pretty sure). This combined with the abundance of red meat on the menu.........I ended up with red meat chili, which had no GOTCHA moments, and an Artichoke chicken breast sandwich minus the bread. This was basically a grilled chicken with the Artichoke dip you can pick up at any store......but it was okay. It was either this or salad. Yea, not memorable. Just okay........and the big televisions and cute girls were deciding factors in the number of cars present. read more

Good ol' Tav on the Ave! This is my husband and I's go to place for a late night beer/meal. I often work until 9pm and most places are empty by this time in Mankato. Tav is a nice exception and has a pleasant, not rowdy but lively mix of ages there well until 11pm when we normally call it quits. This has a modern sports bar type atmosphere but is not overly sports oriented if that makes sense. There are TV's all over, normally set on sports but the sound is often off and if you don't want to watch are easily ignored. Food overall is excellent quality, great soups! My husband says they have the best fajitas in town and my favorites are the taco salad and walleye tacos - yum. Beer selection is overall very good with cycling microbrews on tap, only domestic though but a good variety of ales, pilsners and IPA's. Mostly good service, food quality like I said is consistently excellent but waitresses are not. Bar tenders are always the best, friendly and good service. Do I recommend - Yes! read more

Pretty good restaurant/bar spot. They have a patio that is so nice in the summer you'll feel like you just have to get yourself a nice cold beer. And what do you know, they have a strong selection of craft beers on tap! Perfect luck. To the food. As I suspected from the yelp photos, the spinach artichoke dip was the highlight of the meal. Thanks yelpers! We also got a wrap and a PBJ burger special. The wrap was top notch and definitely better than the PBJ burger. Vacationing on the family farm and the wife said "find a bar with wifi". Pish posh - I didn't need to look - I knew just the place. Have been here many times and it does not disappoint. Good food, friendly servers and a pretty expansive beer selection. I mean - where do you find Left Hand and Odell's side by side in Mankato, Mn? No, seriously - is there anyplace else?
