Decided to stop in here on a cold afternoon for a nice bowl of French onion soup, sadly disappointed. Not sure if this is the same Rose and Crown that's in Banff but the French onion is not the same at all. Was very watery, all I could taste was the thyme and sage, not much beef broth and not very hot, cheese was barely melted, I had to give it to my husband to finish. The salt and pepper wings were ok. First, the portion sizes are huge! I love that for a pub. The server was friendly and efficient in grabbing our take out order, though it took a few moments to grab their attention. It's looks very much like an English pub on the inside and we almost missed it when walking to it on the outside. What a night. We stumbled upon this cool English style pub called the Rose and Crown and they happened to have Trivia on. The place was packed and Trivia had 25 teams. Obviously a very popular thing to do in the Canmore area. The staff, especially Daisy from Dublin was amazing and so much fun. We just had appetizers for food and some drinks. Typical bar food. Great ambiance, lots of room inside, and great location. Food was fine, not bad, not great, just standard fare. The downside was the service. Servers were polite enough, but could not get the orders right. We ordered straight off the menu, no special instructions. They missed the appetizers, forgot one of the meals, and once food was delivered they disappeared. We all ran out of water, and ultimately when it was time to leave I had to chase them down for the bill. Twenty minutes later she brought the bill. BTW, the place was less than 25 percent full, and the staff did not appear harried in any way. Just completely disinterested. There's probably better choices in town. read more

The food was solid especially with it being the last place to get food at that hour. Every restaurant stops serving food relatively early in canmore. Rose & Crown is one of the few options at a certain point. The chicken caesar wrap was refreshing. The poutine was a little underwhelming but the steak bites were pleasant. The vibe of the place though definitely carries it up to a must-go. Music is loud, people are lively and chatty. It has a party type atmosphere. The service is excellent. Locals recommended this one. Easy to find. We walked so not sure where good parking would be. Friday at 7pm was quite busy. 1 guy with a guitar taking requests in a corner which was fun. Lots of rowdy loud drunks by 8pm yelling requests and yelling period. Busy, quite loud. Beer on tap was super flat. My Mountain Mist cocktail was delicious. My shepherd pie was saturated in gravy - too much. Only 4 peices of veg in there. Just meat and potatoes. Potato with cheese on top was good. Friend who got the Gyros was just shawarma meat in a bowl with a side salad - but not the salad he ordered unfortunately but we were too hungry to complain. Fries were good. Friends fish and chips were as expected. Little too greasy.for my taste. Friends Philly cheesesteak was ?pork based and she thought it had too much BBQ sauce and didn't like it. We showed up here late night hoping for food after a flight since it was the only place open. We sat for about 10 mins at the bar without getting the attention of the bar tender (who to his credit seemed incredibly good at his job and kind) but in that time encountered two absolutely insanely drunk locals - we're talking screaming and cursing and actively bothering us. We had to leave bc didn't feel safe. Would probably try again but not during off-season on a week night to avoid crazy people. read more

This place gets five stars because the food was tasty and a good value, there's great outdoor seating, and the ambiance. Our waitress was friendly to us and our kiddies. The drinks were tasty. We exclaimed when we saw the fish and chips; it was a massive and delicious piece of fish. The tartar made there is excellent, but they proactively bring ketchup and mated vinegar too. Not sure if we got caught up in all the amazingness that is the Banff area, but we found Rose & Crown just ok. As far as patio views it's definitely hard to beat though. We had perfect weather with a nice breeze, and it was memorizing to sit back with a nice beer and lose myself in the mountains. Service - The waitresses were somewhat friendly, less than the average smiling Canadian. They definitely weren't there to chat or have a conversation. Our waitress was straight-to-the-point, and ready to be done with us. I'm fine with this quite often, but it took away from the laid-back mountain vibe. Food - Very just ok. I ordered the fish and chips based off of a recommendation from a random guy in the parking lot. The fish was huge, thickly breaded, and not overly greasy. It was good, but I found myself drowning it in vinegar every couple minutes. It was accompanied by a large side of fries. The fries were easily the best part of the dish. Crispy, soft in the middle, and packed with flavor. They also added a tiny scoop of cole slaw that I almost didn't even see. Not a lot of flavor, and just ok too. Heather ordered a side salad with beets. This was easily the biggest salad that I have ever seen, but sadly, was just ok also. So if you are looking for nice views and a bite to eat then give Rose and Crown a try. Maybe you will like it better than me. read more

LOL Seems like many pub owners in the USA go overboard in trying to make their place seem authentic. Rose & Crown is understated and actually very much like many places I visited in England. But the food - that is what really makes or breaks a pub, yeah? Rose & Crown fish and chips were excellent. I only ordered the one-piece plate, since the barmaid told me the pieces are fairly good-sized. I'm glad! I could never have eaten two pieces. The beer batter was light and golden brown, the fish was succulent and flavorful. The "chips" were fries, of course, but they were really good - seemed to be freshly made, with skins on, my favorite! I tried a pale ale called Big Rock Grasshopper Kristallweizen (filtered wheat ale) which was amazing! So refreshing with a lemon slice! The location is amazing and the patio is definitely my favourite in the whole town and I applaud them for supporting live music as my friend Doug plays guitar here frequently but honestly I wish they would fix their pool tables, they're on an angle so it's impossible to make it a good shot plus the cue ball is weighted wrong. All they need to do is fix those things and we would be back here a lot more frequently for example almost weekly. Also we noticed that Rose And Crown Banff has much much much better food and their laminated menus are cleaned frequently and not sticky and covered with beer as happens here from time to time. After being initially hesitant to eat here upon Clark's request, I would have loved to have more time to eat here again while we were in town! I was surprised at how amazing the food turned out to be. Clark ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and devoured it. He said it was perfectly cheesy, flavorful, and filling. The real star of the show, IMO, was the gnocchi that our server recommended. She said initially that there would be plenty for leftovers (which there certainly were!) and that she really loved the dish. I'm a big pasta lover and can rarely turn down any pasta dish and took my chances. The tomatoes were juicy but still cooked, adding a perfect texture to the chewy gnocchis. The sauce wasn't heavy or too rich for my liking either, and there was plenty of it to add to each bite if you liked. The combination of everything was simply delectable and even a few months after our visit, I find myself still thinking about this dish! Wish we lived closer to Canmore, because this would be a favorite go-to of ours. Added bonus: the restaurant/bar is huge and has darts and a pool table for entertainment post-meal! read more

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm going to go 4 because I think my feeling about this place is a bit distorted by factors specific to me and not due to the business. First of all, if you can sit on the patio you're pretty close to heaven. You can get a giant perfect Bloody Caesar here while surrounded by the glory of the Rockies listening to a perfect stream whispering past - all in all an excellent Canadian experience. The food is pub food a bit elevated, our first night in town we devoured great veggie burgers and fries and delicious local beers and watched the sunset and it was dreamy. When I came here again the patio was crowded and crazy hot and shade umbrellas were few and far between. Our dietary issues at the time left us eating the same burger again and a bit of the shine had worn off. I didn't eat inside but the indoor space is large and medium cozy seeming. Maybe a little more corporate than 100% pub vibes, or maybe that's just me. Staff were great, quick and super professional. All in all it's pretty likely I'll go back. read more

Second stop on our tour of Canmore. Stopped in for a cocktail and an appatizer. Word on the street is this is often the last bar going on any given night. To out dismay...after parusing the menu, we noticed the special was deep fried pickles. We promptly ordered a plate to go with our drinks. About 10minutes layer...a second waitress arrived to inform us that "the pickles just aren't working out today". Now I appreciate the honesty...but how does a dish just not work out? This is a neighbourhood pub for the locals. They have a nice outside patio backing onto a natural area. The food and drinks are surprisingly expensive. So not a cheap watering hole. The beef stroganoff was good with fresh mushrooms. The meal sized salad was good but we tasted a bit of grit that was either from the lettuce or the carrots. They have happy hour. My daughter was lost in downtown Canmore and did not have the phone with her. She kindly asked the waitress whether she could borrow their phone to call me, then the waitress asked the guy working behind the bar if she could use the phone and he flat out said no. My daughter was on the verge of tears and even tried using the payphone outside the restaurant and it was not working. She told him that the payphone wasn't working either and she was worried and scared yet he continued to ignore her. Just for a 10 second phone call!! Surprisingly good after I read a few reviews! We got there during late afternoon so it wasn't too busy. It's a typical pub but comfortable. Lots of seating available. The waitress was very attentive and quite chatty. The food overall was pretty good! My steak sandwich was a bit small, but regarding the price it was okay, and cooked perfect. The lamp just fell off the bone because it was so soft. The burger looked good and the fries were tasty. Good hearty food after skiing. The prices are reasonable.
