The food was what you come to expect at a restaurant catered to tourist. We had the duck wings and they were ok, I had the fish and chips and there was zero flavor to include the tartar sauce. My husband had the burger and said it was ok. Overall we were there an hour and saw our waitress once when she took our order and then when we had to flag her down to ask for the check. Came here for their amazing $5 happy hour (tons of beers to choose from, sun-Fri 3-7pm) and ended up staying for dinner. When I came in, it wasn't super busy as I was expecting for happy hour, but that was fine. Service was good and they always made sure my beer was full! For food, I got the Thai peanut chicken Buddha bowl, with steak instead of chicken. All of the ingredients were super fresh and tasty, and the peanut sauce was delicious (but a little watery). I had one of the best nights of my life at the Drake! I was visiting Canmore to celebrate my birthday and my group and I came here after the rose and crown. I was SO excited to find that it was a karaoke bar! The wait to sing was not long at all- the nice woman leading karaoke serenaded me for my birthday and she was so organized despite the chaos our group made. It's such a cute pub with great ambiance, activities and an outdoor patio. The bartender, Chris, was the best part! He was so sweet, tolerant of our craziness and did the most amazing magic tricks for us. He literally pulled an apple out of thin air. I told him to cut me off because I had had too much to drink and he made me lemon waters instead so it still felt like I was having cocktails. If you're in Canmore looking for a good time, you must go to the drake! It is one of the best bars I've ever been to in my life. I will 100% be back next time I visit this amazing place!! read more

We came here on a Monday night, when they have karaoke. I love karaoke so obviously needed to come. It got pretty busy and seemed to be a lot of locals with some tourists. We got there around 11pm and stayed until the karaoke stopped (2am). The lady running karaoke was very sweet. We didn't have any food so can't comment on that, and honestly this is not a place I would probably get food anyway. Definitely a place you go to drink. They have a decent draft list it seemed, I had a few of the same Pilsner. It is cash only, so heads up on that. read more

I haven't actually eaten here and won't because while I was standing at the bar recently I could see into the kitchen and how filthy it was.There was quite visible grease and dirt on the wall tiles ,sides of the kitchen steel units,on the floor under these units,discarded waste on floor all very visible from the outside so I can't imagine what else I would find if I was actually in the kitchen.There is absolutely no excuse for this as a commercial kitchen.How is this allowed?? read more

Great service, beautiful views of the 3 sister mountains in the backdrop, located close to downtown Canmore, but the foods were horrible. The drinks were good and really affordable. I'd say skip the foods and stick to the drinks and sit on the outdoor balcony to enjoy the views. I tried the Caesar salad with chicken along with sharing 60oz of beer. The salad tasted like it was mixed with old lettuce - it actually gave me stomach pains after. It came with two breads that looked like plain white bread with butter smeared on top of it. My friends had the sandwich and quarter leg chicken with fries. The chicken was incredibly tiny (almost just a drumstick + wing), my friend was still left hungry afterwards. The ingredients didn't look fresh so I would please warn folks to avoid eating here if you can. Otherwise, come here for the affordable drinks and an amazing view. read more

Staying in Canmore for the night and our group was looking for a pub to dine at. We had many choices, but chose the Drake and were rewarded for our selection. I had a pulled pork sandwich loaded with delicious coleslaw. My wife had fish and chips. We had fish and chips in Scotland over 10 years ago that were the gold standard that we measure all others to. The fish and chips at the Drake have come closest. Tender fish inside and perfectly golden brown, crispy coating. The portions are large and filling. Conveniently located off the main drag in Canmore, we popped in for a small lunch before heading out of town. It wasn't overly busy, but service was a bit slow and scattered and the food was just ok. Stumbled upon this place when walking around downtown Canmore and I'm very happy I did! We happened to come on a Wednesday and they had chicken wings for $5 a pound (about 8/9 wings). Tried the BBQ, Honey Garlic, and Hot Honey sauces and all were very good but the BBQ and Hot Honey stood above. And don't worry the Hot weren't too hot at all. Another in my group got the brisket and very much enjoyed it. Also on weekdays from 4-7 happy hour has 20oz beers for only $5 which is another great deal - they have a draft lift of about 20 or so beers to choose from. Finally, our server seemed very knowledgeable about the beers and menu overall which was. If you come during good weather I would highly recommend sitting outside, the deck was very nice and had some great views (and the inside seemed a little dark to me) read more

Went there on a recommendation from our guide. We were the only POC in the whole place. They told us we could sit anywhere and someone would bring us menus etc. after being ignored for 30 mins we tried asking the waitresses for help. One didn't even bother answering as we yelled for her and the other one who said she would bring us menus proceeded to help other tables for the next 10 mins. We left without incident. Off the bat I am going to say I have no opinion about the restaurant. As far as the bar goes, after 22:01 it becomes cash only. This is probably because they don't want to deal with the very young crowds of teenagers (who usually look like they just got **into** high school), or people who just straight up can't afford drinks card from declining. That's fair enough, however is helpful to be posted at the door before you have to pay $3 thieving fee at the ATM in the lobby. The majority of the patrons are drunk teenagers or clueless tourists. On Saturday there is a $5 cover charge, even for locals (which is stupid because a lot of the local teenagers are regulars and drop at least $60 on drinks), the dancing Sasquatch, a respectable dance club is free entry, however it's located in Banff). Upon entry, any-day after 22:00, they will ID you, obtain a photo of you taken when you enter and scan your ID. Scanning the ID is fine, if not necessary. (If you have a non-North American ID, they will pop-quiz you on who you are as the scanning doesn't work. However they do not declare that your entry is logged and sent to external entities. *I would like to remind management that that is illegal in California and Europe, the law(s) apply to any entity collecting information on either citizen, and must be declared and disclosed upon request at anytime for any reason. - https://www.oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa - https://gdpr.eu/ *) The drinks progressively get more expensive the more they bar tenders gauge your soberness. The drunker you are the more it costs. A $7 shot of tequila will become $12, before leaving an obligatory tip. The DJ is actually garbage. The songs are good, usually but they don't have any technique. There is no qualification for them to be DJing music. They have a whole table and literally anybody could do better from their phone. I'm not even joking. The bartenders are usually nice, like everyone they can get moody, sometimes. Even if you're just asking for a water. Management is so clueless as to all the activities that happen within the pub areas. I think the fire code for the building is violated every Friday and Saturday. I have not seen a maximum occupancy document which are usually posted. However they fully have the ability (granted they scan ID's) to get an exact count of how many patrons they've had at night. I do not imagine it's more than 280 occupation maximum, which is easily violated if you are able to count heads. (This point was thought of when I was fully sober after the bouncer followed me into the bathroom which triggered me to be an observer for the night.) There are three bouncers. Two of them are okay, sometimes they are overly confrontational or aggressive in ways they definitely should not be. I have been followed into the washroom and watched literally take a piss by the bouncer, while completely sober. I think that's fairly inappropriate from an establishment such as this. I have no idea what their intentions are, or if I'm even safe alone in the washroom while they are peering over my shoulder (as much as I wish this was an exaggeration it's not.) Food service stops at 22:30, if not 22:00. I understand some of the service suspension however these sorts of things are kind of important services, the card machine is a modern service and will be the soul difference between me tipping or not. TLDR, The Drake (restaurant) is definitely one of the most poorly managed dives in the entire Bow Valley with horrible music on most nights while acting unprofessional and ignoring safety requirements (non-covid related). The Tavern is a better alternative, with no cover fee! read more

Great place in Canmore AB, we got lodgings here and stopped in for drinks and food. Lodging was very reasonable for a 2 queen room rate of $75, adequate and affordable in a touristy place (Banff / Canmore area). I grabbed a burger and fries and it was good food, it wasn't anything special (avocado paste vs real avocado on my burger), but it was just what I needed at the time. Beer was good, atmosphere was very pub'ish and enjoyable. Definitely a place I would recommend to someone that's visiting the area. read more

The drake is a nice pub with great food. Great place to come and play some pool, darts and have pints with friends or large groups. This spacious pub also has a pretty good food menu. I wasn't expecting too much when I came here for some food and drinks with my boyfriend while we were staying in Canmore this past weekend. However I was actually very impressed by their menu. I ordered some wings and a salad on the side since I wasn't very hungry and what I ordered was very well put together. For a pub they have pretty good skills when it comes to presenting the food. My salad not only tasted very fresh and good it looked super fancy!! The wings I ordered which were salt and pepper and honey mustard were YUM. Super crispy and tasty! Giving this place one star is pretty generous considering how bad the experience was. I went here with a few of my friends over the August long weekend. From the beginning our server was super sassy and gave blunt rude answers when we asked about the menu. Our server let us know that our food would take up to half an hour and we were fine with waiting. I was hoping that the food would make up for the bad service but it just made the experience worse. Almost 50 minutes after we ordered, we finally received our food. My friend and I shared the 3 appetizers for $25 deal. I was expecting each to be the size of the full appetizer but it was as big as a side dish. Some parts of the dish were cold and some were warm. The poutine was just salty. The gravy was already cold & chunky and the cheese curds weren't melted at all. The spinach artichoke dip tasted grocery store spinach dip with cheese melted on top and the bread it came with was crunchy. I couldn't tell if it was stale or was previously toasted but just was cold. The last appetizer we got were the pork tacos. They were the most satisfying out of the 3. The pulled pork on them was sweet and tender, but I wish there was a bit more of it in the tacos. I understand kitchens can get backed up and it may have been understaffed. Our server was barely there and and I was really reluctant to ask for anything because she looked really annoyed to be doing anything for us. The restaurant looked about 20% full so I'm just confused to how the food took so long and the service was just rushed as if they needed the table. The patio has a great view so this would be a nice place to go for a beer if you want some scenery. Been there three times. Once was for an afternoon beer between a wedding reception and ceremony. It was quiet enough during the day. Good place for a beer and music wasn't too loud, so you could still talk. The other two times were weekend nights. Both nights they had a cheesy cover band and $5 cover because of the bands. It was loud and the played pretty popular songs. Good for a game of name that tune with friends, but not actually that great. There were lots of drunk people on the dance floor, if that's your thing. Just about went there a fourth time on a Saturday night, but there was a $10 cover for a band I hadn't heard of and it was incredibly packed. We stopped in at The Drake on the Monday of the long weekend. I gotta say, it was a pleasant morning experience! We sat on the patio out back, it was well maintained and, despite a few rings on the table from the patio partiers the night before (which were wiped up within a few minutes of us sitting down), quite clean. The breakfast special on the holiday Monday wasn't the full menu. We had our choice of eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast or blueberry pancakes. I went for the pancakes. Three fluffy buttermilk flapjacks showed up at the table a little while later. I would've preferred a jug of syrup as opposed to the little paper cup that came with them, but it was enough to soak my pancakes in and, honestly, probably easier for the staff to clean up afterwards. Service was great, orders were taken, coffee was refilled, and meals brought and cleared in a reasonably amount of time. All in all, a nice top-off to my long weekend! read more
