This was my first time in tonight and it was a fantastic experience! The food was great, it was surprisingly busy for a Monday night and bartender Jen was amazing! I really like it here. Good food and the owner and chef interact with the customers. Specials are a plus because the regular menu is small. The only drawback is seating. Given the size, there isn't much they can do about that, but I do wish they could accommodate more customers more comfortably. I try to make it a regular watering hole! read more

Fantastic food and atmosphere! My husband and I tried this place for the first time last night and our only regret is that we haven't come earlier. Hubby got the special- surf and turf. And it was the most delicious steak and lobster that we have ever eaten!!! The cheesy grits are something to savor and then dream about later. If you like Nutella, you need to order the Nutella poppers! With a warm cup of coffee, it's just sinfully good! We enjoyed dinner so much that we just sat and enjoyed the Notre Dame game at the fun bar with a drink. Didn't want to leave! Will definitely come back soon! Having A late lunch at Tavern on Main in Crown Point, In . Ordered the Cubano Sandwich , it was absolutely OUTSTANDING !! Choice of tater tots or Fries , girlfriend got tots I got fries both hot fresh and really good !! Amanda our waitress was courteous, prompt service, and friendly !! Very disappointed. This was our third time stopping in. The previous two times were for a beer. We had high expectations for dinner because the menu items looked so good. This visit we had to flag the bartender down, though two of them saw us walk in and went right on talking to the wait staff at the other end of the bar. After we got their attention, they were attentive. We ordered tuna tacos and a burger. The tacos were relatively flavorless with little meat and filling. The filling in all three should have been for one. The brussel sprouts were okay, but could have been cooked a bit longer. The meat on the burger was so small and terribly salty. The fries were soggy and tasteless. And the craft beer selection seems to have shrunk. It's a shame because it's a nice place and love the decor. If they want to make it as a restaurant, they are going to have to step it up several notches. We likely won't go back. read more

Crown point has a lot of bars, but people fail to mention the word "dive" when they talk about them. Not this place. My Zombie Dust was the opposite of fresh. It was indistinguishable from any other run of the mill pale ales. Maybe the lines need to be cleaned??? The Peach Mule tasted fine, but the description said "hand smashed ice" and what I got was...gas station bag ice. Vibe was meh at best. read more

Slow service. Seating is way too close together. Felt like we were eating with the table next to us. Hated having to listen to their conversation but we had no choice. They were a foot away! Short ribs in the fries tasted like chuck roast. Our flat bread with pork belly and eggs was just over cooked eggs and chucks of fat. The flight of beers we order were warm. Called in for a reservation for a surprise party. Surprise was ruined because we weren't seated in time for the party even though we had a reservation because they were waiting for people to leave first. The service was slow and everyone's meal was wrong in one way or another. We specifically came here because they split checks. Even after telling the server how the checks would be split they still managed to combine different checks. I can't emphasize enough how much the server walked past us when we were trying to get their attention and how long we had to wait. This is the kind of place you go to when it's mid day and slow, maybe at that point they can handle the volume. read more

Normally, the wife and I dine outside of our town only because there's not much in Cr Pt. Since, "Tavern on Main" recently opened we'd give it a chance. We arrived early evening on a Friday, and just so happened to get seated at the front window. Giving us a picturesque view of the nearby courthouse. Our appetizer of Brussel sprouts were delish. I ordered a hamburger with a Greenbush & a region craft beer and she ordered a salad. She really loved her salad and my hamburger was ok (I've had better but not bad for an upscale bar). We had to fix our table to prevent it from rocking during our stay. I'd rather drink my beer than spill it. Oh well, what can be done about that but fix it yourself. I would give the food 4 stars and the setting 4 but I rated it 3 only bc it just opened and tables should not be unsteady. Maybe an uneven floor? We didn't visit the restroom so unable to rate. The waitress was courteous. So, we will give it another chance only bc the wife enjoyed their food and I enjoyed the craft beer. I had pics but they are duplicates of what is already posted. We stopped at Tavern on Main today while walking around the square. The new black awning caught our attention and we walked over. As we walked in we found a tavern/bar that we have been waiting to find in Crown Point. The decor is neat and there is a cool bar set up. There was a wide selection of liquors including Journeyman spirits. They also had at least 10 beers on tap from great craft breweries from the Region, Midwest, and Nation. We ordered a burger and were not disappointed. Overall Tavern on Main is a welcome addition to the downtown Crown Point area. Hopefully more taverns this style will join soon! read more

Disappointing. Confused staff greeted us. Cocktails were terrible. Chicken and waffles came with three burned chicken tenders turned over to hide burned black breading, drowned in syrup to try to hide it. Really wanted to love this place. Service: friendly, confused, extremely slow. Cocktails: terrible. Food: one meal terrible, one mediocre. Recommendation: Go down the block or head to trendy restaurant on square in Valparaiso and get your time and money's worth. So sad. Crown Point square needs a good, trendy, foody place. read more

We have experienced this establishment four times since they opened. Overall an excellent addition to downtown Crown Point. We've had different menu items each visit and found food items excellent quality and totally different than any restaurant in the area. Crown Point square as a lot of bars, so I know people were not that excited about "another bar", but this place is hands down, the best on the square for food and drinks, rival any Chicago gastro-pub restaurant. We went early on a Saturday night and it was still packed, any later and we would have had a wait, but we were seated quickly. Its a little loud, but the food and drinks made up for it, we ended up talking to people around us because their food all looked so good, we weren't sure what to pick. We ended up starting with the Ahi Nachos, but my husband had to try the scotch eggs too. I ordered the short rib flatbread (so good!) and my husband did the "Make your own man-n-cheese" making a lobster mac he said was amazing. We skipped dessert, but I had several Old Fashion cocktails that were perfect! Not everyone can make a great old fashion, but they nailed it. This is the best restaurant on the square hands down, don't think of this as a just another bar, the food and cocktail menu bring this up several notches! This establishment deserves every bit of these 5 stars! I have been here about 4 times, 3 for food and 1 just for a drink. The first I was here was just for a drink on a Saturday night after a dinner out this must have been when they first opened as the service was a bit slow (they were very packed) however the owner was very friendly and walked around making sure everyone was enjoying their time. Now for the food I have tried the scotch eggs, flatbreads, pretzels, mac and cheese and grilled cheese...at this point I couldn't even tell you my favorite everything was very very good. The square was in need for some updating and a break from that "club" scene that occurs after 10 pm and Tavern on Main succeed. LOVED THIS PLACE! Ambiance was wonderful, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Was a fun atmosphere and food was delicious. Highly recommend the chicken and waffles, best we've had. Burgers are really good. Amazing Onion rings, the only thing I would change is the Onion rings were served with a side of ketchup, seemed a bit off for a restaurant with a fun menu, they would be been better with some form of horseradish sauce. Other than that, we loved it. Have been here 3 times so far, and each time it has been constant. Great to see such a fun, clean atmosphere in the beautiful downtown Crown Point! read more

They make very good cocktails and have a good beer selection, nice bar atmosphere - I'd recommend it for drinking with friends and you can get something to eat if you want. The menu looks interesting, but the execution is just average. We had a pretzel with beer cheese dipping sauce, it was good, though $9. OTOH my grilled cheese with short rib open face sandwich was all bread. They couldn't have put any less cheese or short rib slices on it, the meat was no thicker than one slice of store cold cuts, for $15 - lots more meat & cheese at Panera or McAllister's. My partner had shrimp & grits, it was the least interesting take on shrimp & grits we've ever seen - just looked like a bowl of porridge. There was shrimp and mushrooms stirred in, but it was so bland she had to doctor it up with lots of Tabasco. When the server dropped off our entrees, she told my partner her Brussels sprouts side would be out in a few minutes. My partner was well into her entree and the server was BSing with the bartender. We assumed she might check on us, so we watched her for a minutes , she was BSing the whole time so I went and asked for Tabasco. Then she came by and asked about our dinner, and we reminded her about the Brussels sprouts. She brought them out right away, I am sure they were ready in the kitchen but she had forgotten entirely until we reminded her, too busy BSing. So if we were in CP we might get a drink there, but there's no reason to go there to eat - lots of better choices at that price point. read more
