Awesome tavern up on the hill in Newport, VT. This place has it all classic home town ambiance , great food and an excellent drink selection including a variety of local beers!! Despite the dreary weather we felt welcomed upon arrival. Our server was friendly and responsive. For my drink, I ordered a Vermont beer staple, Switchback, which was one of the local drafts on tap. For my meal, I ordered the shroom burger which was both delicious and filling. My wife ordered the popular poutine appetizer for her meal. It was huge and tasty! Stopped in on a Friday during the live music. It was really nice, not too loud, mostly classic rock. We had kids with us and thought we might need to find another place to but it was fine. The fare was on the nicer end for a tavern while still being moderately priced. A good selection of drinks too. We got the poutine, bbq sandwich, scampi special, and a wrap. The bbq was a little too saucy for my preference but I might be in the minority there. Id definitely try again. read more

One of the best steak and cheeses i've EVER had. BF and I are from MA and are here to visit for the weekend. This place blew us away. The food is spectacular and drinks are awesome. I ordered the maple bourbon burger(9)and my husband got the grilled chipotle chicken sandwich(7). We also ordered the duck wontons(6) and the mozzarella sticks(8.5) overall the service was great and fast! The waitress was very friendly and worked fast paced. She didn't even need to write the order down she just took it, remembered it and everything. The room is laid back, there's a bar people are sitting at, and high tables to eat at. The seats are nice. Not the biggest place for huge families but definitely recommend the place. The only thing I can say bothered me was the amount of flies that would Not leave us alone. We had 3-4 of them like not backing off, I had to cover my drink and food when not eating just to keep it from them lol def would've gave 5 stars if not for that. read more

It's hit or miss with the food, typically their drinks are good though! The service is generally good also. This isn't a restaurant you go to, to chat with your friends. You most likely won't be able to hear them due to the music! read more

I love this tavern . Their broccoli cheese soup, French onion soup, balsamic maple salad dressing and their bourbon wings are to die for. Staff is wonderful and very friendly. But... unfortunately They have a sign in sheet for contact tracing and signs up about mandatory masks but 90 percent of the patrons were not wearing them ...instead walking around inside & going in and out to smoke cigarettes on the porch without masks. I found this a bit unnerving. One party mentioned this and it fell on deaf ears but then they did have Fox News blaring in the bar. read more

Ordered for take-out during COVID-19, but they had inside dining available, and plenty of tables were full during lunchtime. I had the grilled chicken chipotle sandwich with a side of curly fries. The sandwich was very good and had all the toppings listed on the menu for the sandwich. The only drawback, and this is not a fault of the restaurant, but take-out in general, the fries were a little soggy. I guess I could have put them in the toaster oven to crisp them up a bit. It also came with a pickle spear. Wife had the knuckle sandwich, which is pastrami and other things, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. It came with potato chips on the side. Her words: "The succulent combination of brie, pastrami, caramelized onions, and brown sugar siracha sauce was so tasty and well worth the calories." Even though we're not from the area, if we're passing through the area, I'd eat here (or takeout from here) again. read more

First timer at this place. Sportsy environment, nice bar however we sat at a table. The girl singing live sounded great! Our food was good! We got the duck wontons (Saturday special) and wow they were delicious! Husband said the burger he got was really good. I got the clam strips (another Saturday special) and they were good! Kinda chewier than normal, almost choked because I was having a hard time chewing it, but that's clams for ya. Strong local establishment with great kitchen and beer list (with daily $3 pint specials). Montreal smoked meat sandwich was tremendous as was the special buffalo cauliflower. My friends and I enjoy going here for some beers and a bite to eat. Always great service from Sheena and the other guys. We stop in after softball games to relax and soak in some other the local music. Great place with really good people working and also the patrons are cool as well. read more
