We were coming back from Quebec and stopped here. The breakfast was so good and the young lady excellent and kind. The food was fresh and tasty. Thanks!

    Seafood Alfredo with lobster ravioli!

The last time we were in the NEK we came here for dinner and had good memories of the place, so it was a no-brainer to come back. We were staying at an Airbnb in Barton, and made the short drive; it was busy, but we immediately got seats at the bar (ironically, the same ones that we had before!). We started with fried cheese curds (decadently delicious!), Jen ordered a chicken caesar salad and a side order of waffle fries, and I had the baked scallops. Despite one very relaxed and unfazed chef doing all of the cooking, everything came out fast, hot, and tasty. Since we showed up close to closing, we spent awhile chatting with the very friendly woman bartender. The next night we wanted to try Parson's Pub and Grill in Barton but, as we were parking, they were closing...over an hour before schedule (due to the increasingly problematic "staffing issues" that seem to haunt restaurants these days, very sad), so we headed back here. Friday night and the place was packed...except for those same two seats at the bar! Jen got a reuben and sweet potato fries; the sandwich was huge, and she could only finish half of it (she took the other half with her). I splurged and ordered the special: Seafood Alfredo with lobster ravioli, not sure what to expect. It turned out to be another amazing, decadent dish of four large raviolis stuffed with lobster that you could actually taste (unlike some I've had at other restaurants), topped with a generous portion of shrimp and sea scallops in a rich Alfredo sauce. Just terrific! And again, service was fast and very friendly. We will be back!

The largest pancakes we have ever had. So big he could not finish even one. So we packed the second one and half of the first one.

We had so much fun. The food was great. I had scrambled homemade corn beef hash and quality wheat toast. Hot coffee. My bf had the pancakes and we are eating his leftovers for dinner now. The owner and her crew were personable and generous. I don't think we have ever been so welcome and the food was fantastic.

Sup boo boos, I am back for another review for one internet stranger to read. Love you. Anyways, this place is dope. Cool atmosphere. Friendly staff. Looks cute from the outside. Anyways, I ordered the buttered cod and it was so delicious. Usually Cod is dry and flaky, hence fish and chips, but this was well made. I read another Yelper's review about the fries and they were delicious. Bring your kids here so they can taste true fries and not that Mcdonald's crap (yo MICKY D I'll remove that diss for a $1 million sponsorship). Hey, shooters shoot. Anyways, this place was delicious. They also have a breakfast menu and the prices seemed reasonable!

One of my family's favorites for breakfast, always leave full, happy with your meal & without breaking the bank! Small town, family run restaurant that is a must, at least to try! You won't regret it!

The food was well prepared. Very fairly priced. Local flavor that is uniquely Vermont. Wait staff was busy but very attentive.

Overall, it offered a unique experience, though not without a few drawbacks. To start, the appetizers were fantastic. We shared the beef tartare, mussels, and crab rangoon. The beef tartare stood out for its flavor, though the accompanying baguette was slightly stale. Despite that, the appetizers were the highlight of the meal. For soup, we sampled the French onion, which was met with mixed reviews--decent, but not particularly memorable. The main courses included kangaroo, venison, fish and chips, and duck. While the chef's talent for creating flavorful dishes was evident, all the meats were unfortunately overcooked. This may have been due to the challenge of preparing multiple meals at once, as we were informed that there was only one chef in the kitchen. The restaurant itself boasts a charming and homey ambiance that enhances the dining experience. Service was friendly and accommodating, with no issues on that front. A standout feature of the menu was the inclusion of kangaroo--a rare find, especially in Vermont. While it's worth trying for the novelty, be prepared for its distinctively high iron content, which imparts a metallic flavor that may not appeal to everyone. In conclusion, this restaurant offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite a few missteps. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for those visiting the Jay area. Just keep in mind that the kitchen's limitations may impact larger parties or more complex orders. If you're feeling adventurous, give the kangaroo a try--you likely won't find it anywhere else nearby!

We ordered the antelope Swedish balls, French onion soup, and firecracker beef. Most of the food wasn't great - the antelope Swedish meatballs were the best of the 3. The French onion soup had too much thyme and a very watery broth. The firecracker beef was offensive!! It has a warning that it's very spicy (which is true), but it was a really strange dish! I expected an Asian inspired spicy beef dish over rice, but we got a hot sauce drenched rice bowl. Allegedly there was beef in it, but there was really no texture or flavor other than hot sauce! To clarify to the owner comment - we did tell our server we didn't like it, and that it was not due to the spice - it was due to the gross flavor. She simply said "oh I haven't heard that one" and did not offer to take it off the bill or replace it. Now the drinks and desserts were fantastic! We loved our seasonal cocktails, and we ordered two desserts and polished them off. The maple chomeur was drenched in sauce and so good - we actually poured the remaining sauce over our apple warm too! I loved the fresh apples in the tart since there was some texture. Service was also very good from the front desk to our server.

Seated right away. Good enough atmosphere. It's not Bailiwicks, but good enough... Their bar area is super lively, I like it a lot. We both *don't* love the one and only, unisex bathroom that is always out of hand soap and not always super clean (according to Boyfriend who had to lift the seat.......). They need to keep an eye on that... Waitress was ok. A very loud talker. Food was amazing! I had both their "specials" - the fiddle heads appetizer and the Lamb chops... which were also served with fiddle heads, and a delicious risotto (I didn't realize the lamb was also served with fiddle heads, if I had, I would have tried a different appetizer - but that's my fault because I'm sure she must have mentioned it). Everything was amazing. Lamb was so tender and perfectly flavored. Boyfriend had the hanger steak and duck fat fries and loved it too. Says it's some of the best fries he's had! I'm not much of a dessert person but I like trying stuff at restaurants where I know it will be homemade. I had some whipped cream and butterscotch dessert and it was great - couldn't finish as I was full, but no regrets. We will be back! I love that their menu changes seasonally, it keeps things very interesting.
