The last time we were in the NEK we came here for dinner and had good memories of the place, so it was a no-brainer to come back. We were staying at an Airbnb in Barton, and made the short drive; it was busy, but we immediately got seats at the bar (ironically, the same ones that we had before!). We started with fried cheese curds (decadently delicious!), Jen ordered a chicken caesar salad and a side order of waffle fries, and I had the baked scallops. Despite one very relaxed and unfazed chef doing all of the cooking, everything came out fast, hot, and tasty. Since we showed up close to closing, we spent awhile chatting with the very friendly woman bartender. The next night we wanted to try Parson's Pub and Grill in Barton but, as we were parking, they were closing...over an hour before schedule (due to the increasingly problematic "staffing issues" that seem to haunt restaurants these days, very sad), so we headed back here. Friday night and the place was packed...except for those same two seats at the bar! Jen got a reuben and sweet potato fries; the sandwich was huge, and she could only finish half of it (she took the other half with her). I splurged and ordered the special: Seafood Alfredo with lobster ravioli, not sure what to expect. It turned out to be another amazing, decadent dish of four large raviolis stuffed with lobster that you could actually taste (unlike some I've had at other restaurants), topped with a generous portion of shrimp and sea scallops in a rich Alfredo sauce. Just terrific! And again, service was fast and very friendly. We will be back! read more

Not a great expeirence. Came in February and was reminded as I found the receipts in my wallet. The tap list which appeared good on untappd was pretty mediocre this day. Noticed that they had fried cheese curds which is why I went out of the way to drop by. I expected frozen curds at a place like this, but I also expected them to be cooked. It's hard to not cook frozen cheese curds right, but all but the smallest curds were still cold in the middle. On top of it, they charged me for a main course I didn't order. Passing through and stopped here for a late lunch. I had the carriage house burger with added bacon and onion rings. The burger was cooked perfectly medium, like I asked, with lots of tomato and red onion. He ordered grilled ham and cheese, and I never saw so much ham on one sandwich before. If you are visiting the area and looking for a good place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, then this restaurant should be on your "short list." The food and service are really good. It is clean and modern and the restrooms are spotless. This place suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a bar/saloon or is it a fine dining restaurant? The answer is it is a little of both. If you want to sit at the bar, drink a beer, and eat bar food, then this is a nice place for you. If you want a booth with good European or American food, then you can get that too. Make sure you read the specials because those are definitely worth considering. You will be surprised that this place serves the upscale type of food that it does. They also have a full bar. One of the problems with this restaurant is its location. If you don't live here, chances are you will never just drive by it. You need to set your GPS to the location. Because of the location they seem to attract a lot of locals who all know the owners and each other. That's a shame they don't get more tourists because tourists would love to discover a restaurant like this, especially in this area of Vermont. I love this place, they make the best hand-cut fries within a 100-mile radius! The grilled chicken caesar is fantastic as is the ruben sandwich. I was quite excited to learn that a sit-down restaurant had opened in Orleans. I was even more impressed when I saw the layout. However, one cannot eat the layout. I ordered a burger, instructing the waitress "as rare as the chef dares". No courage was on display that day. This makes me nervous. E Coli is not a risk if one grinds one's own hamburger. E Coli is not IN the meat like trichinosis in pork. It is put ON meat during the slaughtering process. Slaughter houses do not grind up good meat. They grind up meat blasted off the bones in such small fragments the cleaning is impossible. A chef that buys this hamburger has to overcook it a bit. One who prepares his or her own from "cuts" of meat that he or she has cleaned can serve steak tartare or rare hamburgers with confidence. What I was served was medium well-done at best. However, my wife said her salad was satisfactory. The French fries seemed to be "home-made" and quite tasty. When we arrived, service was prompt. However, when we wanted to leave, it was 23 minutes before we could catch the waitress' eye. Business was not so brisk as to preclude a glance at the tables which had been served. read more

Me and.some friends went here and ordered breakfast, we got there at around 9:30 a.m. they where busy but everyone had their food that I could see. Two ordered the skillet breakfast and two ordered homemade cornbread hash and egs. Around 10:30 the food food finely came, by this time most of the people that where there where leaving and some that came in after us where done eating, two said their food was barely worm and the skillet breakfast where cold. A brand new establishment that is much needed in the area. Chef cooked food with your typical Bar & Grill scene. The food is excellent and you have to realize that this is in rural Vermont. On busy nights in winter, be prepared for a line. In summer, there is plenty of great seating on the huge deck with tables that stretch around half of the victorian home. Opened in Fall of 2015. This establishment will be improving with time and perhaps expand more into the old home that has been refurbished with hard work. Try it, and don't be picky.
