You are in Italy; when you book a reservation, they plan on you being there 2-3 hours and enjoying your time and wine. I have dined at Taverna Agape twice now and the food and service gets better every time! The restaurant sits in a quaint piazza with plenty of outdoor seating. The servers are attentive, kind and welcoming. They answer any and all questions you have and even make recommendations. The atmosphere at the restaurant is a family vibe, which I love. The owner is as friendly and hard working as his staff and makes you feel like you're at his home. If I could order everything on the menu at once, I certainly would. Instead, I recently had salmon tartare as a starter and had the grilled octopus as my main. The octopus was a very large portion and grilled to perfection. The chef knows what he's doing. I did not have dessert this time, however, looking at others enjoying their desserts, I know it did not disappoint. I will be returning to Taverna Agape in the future and definitely recommending it to more friends and family. I have heard from friends that they have recommended to their friends. Wonderful evening sitting outside and enjoying the meal and atmosphere. We were well taken care of and the food was delicious and the service excellent. We enjoyed some nice wine , bruschetta , fried artichoke heart to start. Then we each had a bit of pasta carbonara (delectable) and a pasta with meat perfectly herbed and spiced, the pork with apple was also delicious but a tad over cooked. The best tiramisu so far ! Came here with two local friends late on a weeknight; they had made a reservation. We got outdoor seating near a fan which was critical for a hot evening. I had the giant beans and then the carbonara pasta. My friends ordered the zucchini flowers and the mushrooms. Hands down the best mushrooms I have ever had in my life. Wow. So much flavor and an interesting texture. The carbonara was amazing and worth every calorie! I liked the beans a lot. They weren't mushy and the menu described them well - with a hint of vinegar. Service was perfect. Bathrooms were clean. I broke my golden rule. The rule: "Never, I repeat never, eat at the same restaurant twice in one vacation." First, it won't be as good. Second, you are missing something else. But I wanted my other cousin to try the carbonara. The rule is wrong. The second meal was equally delicious. The waiter, Vito, said, "trust me" as he lead me to the ice mound of fresh fish and shellfish. And he said if didn't like it, I didn't have to pay. OMG. When he came it check on me, i held up my hand and said, "don't talk to me, I'm eating the best meal!" Wow. I inhaled that plate. One of the best meals of the trip. We ended up here as the restaurant we were headed to was closed. We weren't familiar at all with this restaurant, but they did not disappoint. We started with Bruschetta that was incredible, different than others we had experienced, with sliced red onion (little bits that enhanced, did not over power), some really good tiny green olives and the perfect blend of garlic, olive oil and basil. My husband ordered fish, made sure he emphasized "one portion". He enjoyed the fresh fish, he said it was cod, with a tomato/olive sauce on top. I had lamb chops, perfectly grilled, and we had dessert. All was reasonably priced, deserts were tiramisu and quite honestly, I can't remember what I had. The service was good, the food was good and it was several blocks away from where our hotel was, not central tourist area. I can't imagine any of our waiters asking for a tip, but after talking to others in the service/hospitality industry around where we stayed, who made it through Covid, people are still reeling to get stability back. However, being that the service was great, we did leave a tip. It's personal choice, but where people are still recovering, I'd err on the side of caution and leave a tip, even if just a small one. read more

THIS IS A TOURIST TRAP. The food is delicious, the ambience is lovely, the service is impeccable, but the prices were outrageous! The waiter was friendly and outgoing, but he tried to sell me a €350 bottle of wine. I "settled" for a €155 which was good, but not worth the price. The oysters were €4.5 each and a fresh snapper, large enough to serve three people was €115! Make sure you ask about the market price before you order! Two plates of sautéed mushrooms were €50 (delicious but not THAT good!) The only reasonably priced dish was the pasta with fresh shaved black truffle. €350 for a three person LUNCH excluding tip (which you don't give anyway) There is just as good food to be had in Rome at much more reasonable prices. And to top it off, the waiter had the nerve to ask me to leave a tip -- no other server during my entire vacation in Rome asked me for a tip! I will NOT be coming back here! read more

Stopped here with a reference from our tour guide and we were not disappointed. So good. One way to describe our experience -"mama mia". Ask for the lasagna and the house wine with the fresh bread. Plan to sit and take in the breathtaking view - perhaps take up a conversation with a nun or a monk, there was a number sitting around us. Just 3 blocks or so from the Vatican. This is consistently one of my favorite places to dine in Rome! The service is always polite and kind. The servers speak enough English, and you cannot beat eating outside in the piazza. I originally found it when I started nearby in the neighborhood. There is always a crowd of both tourists and locals with great taste having the servers bring out dish after dish of delicious looking food. I recommend the pasta gricia, although I have enjoyed many appetizers and pastas there. Dessert and coffee and amari are always great! read more

feb 2, 2023 the place looked nice, outside under plastic tarp.. in a small kind of plaza... but was totally disappointed. ordered a seafood pappardelle for lunch and boy was that bad!!!!! first, the noodles were folded over on themselves forming layers... second they were at least 1/8 inch THICK!!!!!! I MEAN it looked like they forgot to put it through the pasta machine for the final TWO pressings to make them somewhat thin. third, the were cool to the feel, like they hadn't even put them in water to cook... and FINALLY, because of that they were like hours short of al dente... they were doughy!!!!! and chewy!!! it was a chore to eat them. I dont know.. is THIS supposed to be Italian??? is that what it's about? cuz man, the Italian food I get in the US far outshines what I got here!!!!! would not recommend., wish i had pix to show. but i only take pix of good food... this was not worth the battery power to shoot one. read more

The service was incomparable, with no less than three mean waiting on us throughout dinner, each with his own role. We went to this restaurant by mistake since we thought it was the restaurant with the 'best tiramasu in Rome'. We we walked up and asked the waiter for a table he stared us up and down and said 'oh there is a 15 min wait'...even though there was clearly a table for two outside and Noone was waiting for a table...just us. We think the waiter didn't like the look of us from the beginning since we weren't dress fancy like most people there. We should have left but thought it was the 'best tiramasu' place. We wait for 20 mins then he finally seats us since we didn't go away. We sit down and got greeted by our waitress who was nice and brought us water and a glass of presecco. Okay cool. The rude waiter guy comes over and we said we just wanted to order dessert and he got super rude and said we couldn't do that and we had to order a meal then dinner. We said fine and was about to pay for the water and walk away. Our waitress came back and said oh its okay you guys can order dessert. ( I wish we would have left). So I ordered a creme Brulee and my husband order tiramasu. My creme Brulee is the most disgusting thing I've ever had. It was not made properly since there were still grains of sugar on top that was not glazed over like it's suppose to be. Tiramasu was also awful. We paid 22 euros for both plus water. What a complete rip off...oh and that waiter came by and was like looks like it's your lucky night (since we were able to order just dessert). Such a horrible dining experience. This is an excellent seafood restaurant! We went on the recommendation of our hotel concierge and we were very pleased! the staff is super professional and friendly. This is a very nice humble restaurant rooted in service, variety and diverse selection. They brought us a chef sample when we first arrived which was very tasty. They make their bread daily with only the freshest ingredients and a variety of breads to sample on. We chose to split the sea bass with a polenta which was incredibly light and refreshing, Cooked and seasoned to perfection as well as the lobster flambé for two prepared table side. This is hands down the best lobster I've had this entire trip and I will go back to have this dish again. We also ordered the truffle and butter pasta but substituted it with gnocchi. This was such a perfect compliment to the lobster. They were more than generous with the white truffle and my husband and I were debating on who should have the last bite, it was that fantastic. The wine and champagne list is robust. We were able to order our favorite champagne, followed by lemoncello and Capacinos and cafe latte, all perfect. I am a foodie and this place is on my short list of places that are absolutely one of the bests in Rome. It is for those with a sophisticated palate and who love seafood! Can't wIt to go again! Delicious, Authentic, Romantic, e MOLTO BENE!! We came across this hidden gem by following the smell of the delicious food wafting through the alleyway all the way from the main road. When we finally came to the beautiful Piazza de San Simeone and found the perfect candlelit table for two waiting for us, we sat down and had no idea that we were about to experience our best meal in Italy! Our server, Vito, was beyond courteous, funny and very entertaining - I highly recommend you try to be waited by him and his team. The food was absolutely delicious, and dining al fresco with the backdrop of a bubbling fountain at the center of the plaza was pure bliss! The salad with the fried scamorza cheese was unbelievably good (we ordered it twice). The Carbonara dell Agàpe with pork cheek was the best pasta I've ever had. All' Amatriciana was excellent as well. Not to mention an extensive proper cocktail menu (hard to find in Italy beyond spritzers), and very reasonably priced bottles of wine. Stumbled across here on our first night in Rome. Looked pleasant enough and was far enough away from the main Piazza tourist traps that we thought we'd be in for a good meal. Got a table easy enough, but was then forgotten about for a good ten minutes. No menus or anything. Once we had menus it was then another ten minutes or so before anyone asked if we wanted drinks or anything. The starters (both pasta) were ok. Nothing at all special. The mains were a joke. An over cooked piece of fillet and some so so lamb chops. We'd ordered some potatoes and vegetables to go with them which the waiter simply forgot. After promoting they'd turned up after we'd already finished the meat. Even though this was brought to there attention, no apology was offered. One saving grace was they made sure the sides, rightly so, were not on the bill. The service is simply awful. It isn't worth the money they charge. Put simply - avoid! The food is not good, the place is expensive and, if you're a tourist, check your bill - we found more than one inconsistency! When we pointed out that we'd been overcharged once, they took the bill and completely changed it and overcharged us somewhere else to compensate! Fought the urge not to throw the twerpy waiter through the glass door. Got up and spoke with the manager who did not apologize and had to be convinced of the error when it was clear as day! We had a wonderful dinner here! We passed it one night on the way to another restaurant and we happened to meet the owner on our journey to the other location. He was gracious and invited us to dinner the next night. We met friends here the next night and had one of our most memorable dinners in Rome. It's a quaint, quiet place that had both locals and tourists having dinner. The food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect Rome experience/dinner. One of the very best things about having dinner/supper in Italy is that you aren't rushed through a meal. In the land of the old Roman Empire, you are invited and even encouraged to dine. What a wonderful experience when compared to the "Get 'em in and get 'em out!" approach of some of the most expensive restaurants in the United States. In the best Italian tradition, our experience at Osteria dell' Antiquario was an exceptional one. Not only were we invited to dine, but we were encouraged to stay when we asked for our check. After an absolutely wonderful meal, we were still enjoying our wine when we were surprised by a text from close friends who happened to be in nearby Piazza Navona. When we told our main server, Luigi, that we were leaving to meet our friends, he pointed out that we hadn't finished our wine and assured us that our friends would wait for us. He even offered to save our wine if we would come back after we visited with our friends. When has that ever happened to you? It's never happened to us. Osteria dell' Antiquario was a surprise find while we were wandering around looking for another restaurant and happened into Piazzetta di Dan Simeone with its little, typically Italian, fountain. After looking at the restaurant menu, my wife and I decided we had found our dining spot for the evening. And . . . what a special find it was. We had arrived well into the Italian dinner hour and hoped we would be seated within a reasonable time frame. To our great surprise, the head-waiter said he would have a table for us "Subito!" (right away). And, he did. We didn't wait five minutes as a table was quickly cleared and prepared for us. Then, we had barely gotten settled in our seats when a team of three servers began an artistic display of how fine service is delivered. After one server poured our water, another arrived with "complimentary" Proseco . . . which was an unexpected treat. While they had no way of knowing that we were on a trip to celebrate our 35th anniversary and my wife's 60th birthday . . . you would have thought they had known days in advance. Luigi, Stefon, and at least one other server gave us one of our nicest evenings in Italy . . . and we were all over the country. In my opinion, you do yourself a great service by finding and enjoying Osteria dell' Antiquario. I wish you the same experience my wife and I were very pleased to enjoy. If you have time, call or stop by and make a reservation. Introduce yourself and say that you were referred. Also, smile and be pleasant. Warmth goes a long way in Italy. After many trips to Italy and numerous conversations with waiters/servers, their most common complaints are related to the arrogant, rude, and unreasonably demanding attitudes of foreign patrons. And, be assured, if you are any of the above, you are unlikely to have a pleasant evening at any restaurant in Italy. The evening we were there, every table was filled and there were people waiting.
