What a cute little place on college with quality food! You know when you see the red and white checkered table cloths you're in for a good meal. We started off with pizza and diablo shrimp and both were amazing. My entree, a white wine sauce pasta with shrimp and tomato, was excellent as well. Good prices as well. where the resto loses points is for a very cramped dining room. The space is small and they are trying to maximize it which is fine, but there was a light by the bottom of my chair I kept bumping into? The food was okay. we made a reservation for 6:00 PM and were sat between a broom closet and the stairs to the bathroom at a tiny table. At 7:30 PM, in the middle of dessert, the waiter told us we had to leave because there were people waiting to be seated. We literally had just been served dessert and were in the middle of a bottle of wine. Shocked, we said okay and proceeded to finish our wine and dessert. 2 minutes later the waiter came back and said we needed to leave now. We were flabbergasted. On the way out my husband went to talk to the host to complain and the host said sorry, that's the way it is with open table and shrugged his shoulders. I have eaten in the restaurant once, and ordered takeout twice. Today was my third time ordering takeout. The woman who answered the phone was very abrupt. She said we couldn't add prosciutto on the pizza - no modifications. I asked why, and she said no modifications for now. Odd, because we have before, but okay. She confirmed what we wanted to order, then almost immediately said "ok bye". No name, phone number, total, or how long it'll take. My partner and I thought it was very rude, but maybe she was new, idk. We pick up the pizzas, and they seemed a bit cold; we didn't think we were too late by any means. Once home and ready to eat (and after warming it back in the oven), I noticed how horribly my pizza was cut and burnt. Overall really disappointing takeout experience. Upon searching for traditional red sauce Italian places this was a main return on my query so I felt like it had to be done. It also ticked several boxes: red and white tablecloths, family history on the website, and standard macaroni and red gravy options . We ordered a couple of drinks to start and the burrata as a starter. I thought the burrata was perfect - loved the arugula complement and the salt and pepper seasoning. So good. Also with pizzas being a large part of the menu we ordered one to share as well. We went with the traditional margherita pizza - which came out lacking basil and almost looked over cooked if that is even possible with me. For my entree I went with the chicken parmigiana which is no secret - though I really was eyeing the carbonara. Any time I see carbonara on a menu and prepared the way I like it - I should be getting it. But I didn't. The chicken parm was good - tender chicken and properly seasoned and sauces macaroni. After our first two choices failed (one was closed for the day, the other was closed forever), we were hungry and decided to give this Italian family restaurant to try. Service was attentive and friendly despite being constantly busy. Came here with my polycule for a Valentine's Day extravaganza and it was lovely. Staff is really nice food I really fresh and yummy even on the craziest days of the year. I was craving pizza for supper this evening. I was walking along College Street and came across Trattoria Taverniti. It looked interesting and I'd never been there so I thought I'd check it out. When I got here around 6:30pm, it was fairly empty but filled up pretty quickly. I ordered the Carne pizza. It was a good pizza and I ended up taking some home for lunch tomorrow. The crust was crispy and I guess it was the sausage that had a bit of a bite. I paid my bill and was finishing up my wine, getting ready to go. Then one of the servers asked if I would move to the patio to a high top chair because they needed my table. I said I wasn't going to be much longer and didn't want to move to a high top (I have a wonky knee). About ten seconds later, the second server came over and asked me to move and I told her the same thing. About five minutes later, one of the servers said I really had to leave because they really needed my table. I just had a sip of wine left and again said I'd be leaving shortly (and did). I felt a bit uncomfortable because the table next to mine was looking over and wondering what was going on. So what started out being a pleasant meal got ruined. I understand that a small restaurant needs to turn the tables over to make money. But if the table was reserved and I needed to be gone by 7:30pm (so in about an hour), they should have said so when I was seated so the expectations were set ... rather than kicking me out because someone else needed the table. Definitely a customer service fail. As good as the pizza was, I didn't feel valued as a customer so won't be back. read more

OMG!! This is by far THE BEST Italian restaurants I have been to in Toronto. We were teleported to Italy :) My husband literally got emotional having their Arrabbiata pasta. I got pesto pasta. Both vegetarian. Both were very fresh!!! Crew is very friendly. They even had canopy setup for the guests for rainy days. I think this is going to be our place when we feel low and wanna get something yummy in our belly!! Definitely recommend this to all my friends but do reserve ahead of time. So I'd you plan to come here it may be a good idea to reserve a table in advance. Once we were seated we ordered the gnocchi gorgonzola, rigatoni Bolognese, and Stracciatella soup. Let me start off by saying the gnocchi was great. The texture was great and the sauce was nice and creamy. However do note that the sauce was a little bitter so maybe the rosee sauce would be a better choice in this case. I tried a bit of the rigatoni and it was delicious. Loved the sauce. Finally we tried the Stracciatella soup which had shredded chicken and egg drop. It was our first time trying it and it was perfect for the weather that day. The service was alright here. The servers were friendly but they were really busy so there was no further interaction after they brought our food until we asked for the bill. The restaurant itself was nice and comfortable. It is not a very big space but it never felt cramped. I am glad we tried this place out. We enjoyed the food very much and I would love to come back here to try the pizzas next time. read more

This place is so cute inside with exposed brick and lots of outdoor seating. We were seated at the two person high tops right outside and there was not much room. You're definitely bumping into the people next to you. The service is also slow, it took an hour for us to order and a while to get the check. We would have ordered more drinks but servers didn't come by after dropping off the food. However, the food and drinks were amazing. They have great gluten free pasta. First the wine had cork in it and when I mentioned it to the waiter he took away my glass and brought it back with half of it gone. Then we asked for the salad to come first and one came while we waited ten minutes for the second. The second also came with the pasta ( which was not suppose to come yet). The waiter said the kitchen was too fast (?) so we ask for it to go back as we were not ready for it. After finishing the salad, they brought out the pasta which was cold. Trattoria taverniti is a little place in Little Italy downtown. Staff are very nice and the decorations are very homie. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese and the pasta is uncooked but that's how it is served but it was very good ! The flavor was good the sauce was just right and there was lots of meat in it! My friend ordered the spaghetti and it was a bit salty for him and it was uncooked a bit. The Quattro formaggi was good and very cheesy and oil ! The only bad thing was the service it was very very slow. My friend finished his food before us and we had to wait about another 15-20 mins for our dishes to come. Stumbled across this cute little gem after a drive through little Italy. We found a street adjacent to the restaurant that we were able to park on for free (after hours). The service was great we were promptly seated upon arriving. There was only one table for two left but I think they were saving it for a couple as we were seated at the bar. My cousin and I decided that we would order a bunch of food and share everything which was great! We ordered the original bruschetta and it was delicious! There was Parmesan cheese on top and perfectly season tomatoes with a crispy baguette bottom. We also had the calamari which was lightly battered but very flavourful. As a main we ordered a pizza with salami and carbonara pasta. The pizza was really good I loved the crispy crust and the thick layer of cheese. The pasta was good but I've had better. My friend ordered a margarita pizza and it was sooooo good. I ordered the gnocchi with shrimp and I fall in love it was to good. The waitress was very friendly. The only thing I didn't like was that the table was not stable it was moving around with every move we did. The food was perfect would definitely recommend it. This place is pretty much the definition of a hole in the wall (which full disclosure is in my opinion the best type of restaurant). It's dark and tiny and has very intimate and authentic vibe. We started with the meatballs appetizer and those things were melt in your mouth amazing. The marinara was so rich and flavourful we were ecstatic when the server dropped off some bread so we could soak up every last bit of it. We opted to share a couple things since neither of us had been there before: The Bolognese Rigatoni and the Diavolo Pizza. Both were great but the real standout was the Rigatoni. We both heavily favoured it. The sauce was rich and hearty the pasta perfectly al dente, there was absolutely nothing lacking in this dish. The only down downside to our experience here was we did have to wait with dirty dishes on our table (which is my biggest restaurant pet peeve) for about 15 minutes after we had finished eating to get our bill. Normally this would really bother me but the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food really made this place enjoyable. We look forward to coming back. read more

This is a tiny place but luckily there were tables open without a reservation on a Friday evening. They have a good amount of wine options and the wine doesn't come in wine glasses but just normal drinking glasses.
