We have young kids and they made us feel welcome and never rushed. They do have a kids menu available and made us something that our kids wanted...meatballs and pasta. Frank S. is in town and the people of Vancouver should be on guard. Especially the hostess at Tavola. Remember the mean girls from Mean Girls? This is them all grown up, in the body of a skinny hot mess. I called to see if one needed a reservation. She said yes. I said how long is the wait if we're walk ins. She said, "Could be 5 minutes or two hours? That's what happens when you don't make a reservation." Lovely. When we arrived - yes, we still went b/c we heard the food was excellent - the same woman (I could tell by her pinched voice and general aura of misery) told us the wait would be 30 minutes. 45 minutes later we asked if our table might be ready soon. She said, "If you want a snack, sit at the bar. Otherwise, wait." In my twenties, I would've dated her. Needless to say, we sat, we ate. It was delicious. The waitress was delightful. Such a cute homey restaurant on a quiet street in the West End. We had the special crostini with balsamic soaked strawberries and marscapone - so divine! We shared 2 pastas- one with fennel sausage meatballs and another was linguine with anchovies, lemon, chili flakes. Both were so good and complimented each other quite nicely. Wines by the glass were good - they had our favourite Valpolicella so we had 3 of those. Service was quick and friendly. read more

My second and last time at the restaurant. Came in at 7:28 pm on Friday, July 20, 2018. Were seated at 7:42 pm. Food arrived at 8:25-8:30. Poor customer service: the couple that arrived later was served first, as was from the same part of the World as the server. We specifically asked for a desert menu in the beginning. The menu was brought immediately, but then taken away without asking what we chose and brought again in the very end. Ordered a featured dish - pasta with cherry tomatoes and crab. What was served for $32: bowl full of spaghetti, 3 cherry tomatoes cut into 2, about 15-20 grams of crab meat "smeared" on the top, a little bit of cheese. Very disappointed. read more

Ambiance was good. Salami plate and pear salad were amazing! Our main dish came and we were disappointed at the presentation and side dishes as there were none. Juicy pork chop was a pork chop with 3 Cantrell mushrooms, delicious but even a carrot and bouquet of something would have dressed it ! Having a bigger special menu on the entrance blackboard than the actual menu doesn't help, i don't envy the hostess repeating this over and over again, pity. Food was good but too pricey. Love this gem in DT Vancouver. We had the meat platter special, which was ENORMOUS. There were 4 of us sharing this platter, and we each got to take some home for lunch the next day. We also shared the arugula salad and tonarelli cacio e pepe. Both were delicious, although and obviously the pasta in Italy was fresher and more flavorful. I recommend you try it once, only once. Extremely pricey for small portions of food. The staff tell you the $40 plate is for sharing, it really isnt. The food is good, not exceptional. Service is generally below average but expected, the snobbish waiters of the west end. Had the brick chicken, the plate has no sides or anything but two small pieces of chicken which were kind of bland. The fuss i believe is about the patio and the location. read more

Very tasty Italian food near the Oceanside in Vancouver. We went here while visiting the city and very much enjoyed our experience. Despite not having a reservation, we were able to get a table (on a Friday night) relatively quickly. The service was a bit slow, but the food made up for that: we had some assorted crostini, the buffalo mozzarella, a simple arugula salad and then some fabulous pasta. The Campanella with mushrooms and prosciutto was fabulous! The deserts were equally delicious. Highly recommend Tavola! read more

Terrible food. The fish was drenched in butter with no flavour to speak of. The local greens were gritty with flavourless parmesan(?) cheese on top. The service was pretty good but came with some forced happiness and lingering at the table at times. Perhaps the pandemic made the server overeager to make it a good time. Absolutely a gem! We had a great time not only talking with locals but also one of the owners, Brad. The Burrata must be tried, easily enough for two. Main courses came and they were easily shareable as well. While the wine list was a little sparse, Brad was able to steer us to wines which were very complementary to the meal. I would suggest considering some of the specials as we ordered a few of them that evening and were very happy with the choices. As for some of the staples we ordered the burrata to start, then 3 pastas (cacio pepe, bucatini and pork ragu - all wonderful and cooked perfectly al dente) and finished with the brick chicken. The reviews do it justice so I'll keep it short. Amazing burrata, amazing pasta, amazing service. The waiters were even playing with a fussy toddler to try and make the dining experience better for the parents, so sweet. Every dish was amazing, the cacio e Pepe was the favorite, but honestly you can't go wrong. Will be back. Very impressed. ooooooooooh 5stars!!! look, i am not that hard to impress. i like good but not fancy food, friendly but not fake service and basically, a friggin good time. who doesn't? but for some reason this tends to be really hard to find in this city and really, anywhere. so i was close to giving 4 stars but realized...everything about the food, attention and service was a super friggin good time people! first off, i made a reso for 10 online, but apparently they lost it, yet immediate accomodated once they realized something fishy happened. we were a group of stinky, post-run marathon clinic-ers and while we were TOTALLY late we were hungry and ready to rock. tey appreciated that. the owner/manager was crazy awesome. love him. super hilarious and friendly. we started ordering but it was a gong show so i asked him to just look at us, accomodate for one vegetarian and bring us what he thought was yums. well he did just that. salad, appis (burrata...i just want to be alone with you), several amazing pasta dishes (pork ragu, pomodoro, pesto) and halibut. soooooooooo good. could i criticize the dishes...well, yes the halibut was a bit overdone and while i loved almost all the pastas and they were cooked perfectly al dente, i found the pomodoro a bit boring and missing a little something (maybe anchovy paste???). but really, that would be crazy nit-picky. because the folks at Tavola BROUGHT IT! BROUGHT IT!!! basically everything awesome about Nook but we could make a reso for a large group and not worry about waiting. i WILL be back. read more

This place is alway busy and finally had the chance to try. Ordered the burrata with prosciutto and seafood linguine. The prosciutto was tissue paper thin, it could be easily missed on the wooden plate. With the price they charged with prosciutto add on, was kind of a joke. What can I say... came here last night for my 3rd time... the consistency of tavola amazes me. It's a home run every time I visit... the food quality is second to none in Vancouver in terms of Italian food. I've dined at the more pretentious and expensive Italian restaurants in Vancouver and there is not a single place I'd rather eat than tavola ... started with the burrata last night - perfect as always. My girlfriend and I split the veal chop, I had a cavatelli with oxtail Ragu, and she had the brown butter sage gnocchi. All dishes were exemplary and show true mastery of Italian homestyle cooking. That veal in particular is something special . It's rare for me to find a restaurant I love this much. 5/5 read more

I stopped by last week, I got a quick bite ordered the spaghetti.It was pretty decent, sauce a bit sweet,pasta a tad too soft (I prefer Al dente) but the clincher was later that it did not sit very well with me if you get my meaning..any place where I have a cleansing experience after is not a place I am going to chance again. read more

Went here for a guys dinner (12 guys). There are not a lot of places that would accommodate that many people without having to get a private room or a big F&B minimum. We had reservations for 8pm. Place was pretty packed. Ambiance: Very low key. Not terribly big but very homey feeling. YOu can see everything that is going on from all angles of the restaurant. Restrooms were clean. Service: Fantastic. We were seated right away, smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. The server came and discussed the menu with my friend. Pretty much it was going to be a chef's choice done in a family style way. I love not having to make decisions. Drink orders were taken right away and brought out in a timely fashion. Food came out at a decent pace. The manager came out and asked how things were. We did not feel rushed. Great service. Food: I had no idea what to expect. We were all hungry. First course was a crostini, burrata cheese, and prosciutto plate. The burrata was amazing, very creamy. I could have eaten the whole plate myself. Next came a tomato salad. Very simple but the tomatoes were delicious and sweet. The entrees came out all together. I love family style. We had 2 different pastas, a pork ragu and and the buccatini. I loved the ragu, but my friends all preferred the buccatini. The pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente. Seasoning was on point. I could have had just the pasta dishes. However, next came the protein. The roasted chicken was fantastic. Very juicy. Some thought it was the best chicken they have ever tasted. The rib eye with the salsa verde was my favorite. IT was cooked perfectly medium rare- medium. The salsa verde was kind of like a chimmachuri. I also enjoyed the arugula salad that came with it. You couldn't go wrong with either protein. We thought we would have no room for dessert, but alas, we opted for the tasting. There were 3 items. There was a banana bread pudding of sorts that was really really good. However, my favorite was the panacotta. It had some berries in it. Very creamy, yet not overly sweet. So delicious. Value: The bill came out to about $70 (USD). Quite a value if you ask me. The food is just as good as the first time I came which was more than a year ago. My friend and I shared a few dishes and every dish was very yummy. We had the following: 1)white anchovies with boiled eggs- my friend was hesitant about trying it, but I convinced her. To her surprise, she actually liked it. The anchovies were tangy with hints of saltiness and the egg yolk was very creamy. Good combo! 2)crostinis-the bread wasn't too hard and the toppings were really fresh. 3)BBQ spot prawns w/fresh herbs on top-love the chargrilled flavour. Can't really screw up this dish cuz, simple preperation so the prawns could shine. It was cooked perfectly. 4)gnocchi w/brown butter, sage & pine nuts-simple classic preparation. The gnocchis were pillowly soft. 5)rigatoni w/sausage, basil, tomatoes & olives- I could taste the hints of fennel in the sausage-lovely addition. The pasta were cooked al dente and thank goodness it wasn't drenched in tomato sauce 6)lemon cream- very lemony, smooth, not too sweet dessert. It was very light and refreshing. 7)pistachio icecream- the texture was grainy. I didn't get enough pistachio taste on the icecream. Thank goodness it was on the house. Overall, we had an amazing meal at Tavola. They're very good at serving elegant rustic Italian food. read more

Wow what a meal! My wife was running the BMO Marathon and we did not do a good job of making dinner plans. We called Tavola and Brad graciously offered us a table based on a last minute cancellation. I have to add my two cents because my husband and I had the privilege of dining here thanks to discovering it via Yelp. We go up to Vancouver every few months, and in a city of great restaurants, this one is a standout (particularly if you are at this end of Robson). The food is great and the service is laid back without making you feel ignored. I'm already excited to go up for the half marathon in a couple months and revisit Tavola yet again! read more

Perfect place ( if you can get in) for a quick delicious meal! If you are just a couple coming in for something fast I would say that sitting at the bar would be the best bet..( show up right when they open at 5 and should be no problem) and as mentioned in other reviews the burrata and prosciutto is excellent and by far the best deal in the city is the brick chicken. The servers are very helpful for suggestion on food and wine..just ask and they will oblige. Great place..great location and glad to see they made the switch to Italian cuisine read more
