Taxi Mom is a great service for PARENTS AND CHILDREN. However working for them didn't go too well. The local franchise I worked for was fine. But when that owner left and corporate took over managing our location everything went down hill. First, they didn't take any taxes out of the drivers' pay the first three weeks and said it was because they were waiting on their attorney to advise them how to handle the transition. I kept asking about the tax situation and they finally said we would all need to be 1099. I was furious!!They didn't discuss this with any of us or ask if we would mind making this switch. I know nothing about how to be 1099, didn't want to have to pay my own taxes, nor did our job duties even fall under the category of 1099 (contract employee) according to department of labor and IRS. So to me that seemed like a violation of the IRS employee classification law. Secondly, when corporate took over after the previous owner left, they didn't have any vehicles for us to drive. Those vehicles were owned by the previous owner and left with her. Corporate asked for all drivers to rent vehicles in our name using our personal insurance (which I refused to do) and they would reimburse us for the rentals. This was a huge hassle, not OUR responsibility, and one driver didn't have a credit card to even rent a car on. So that driver agreed to use their own vehicle. There is actually more to this story that involves corporate giving this driver a vehicle from another location but it broke down twice so she ultimately was still asked to rent a vehicle which she was unable to do. Corporate thought buying a tank of gas for using her own vehicle would be sufficient reimbursement. I advocated for this driver to be reimbursed the standard $.70 per mile the IRS has in place for this type of situation. It came to way more than a tank of gas. They agreed to that but told the driver it would be a few weeks for them to get the money to her. 3 months later and several email reminders later she still has not been reimbursed, it came to about $600! So if you want to work for a company that does right by their employees and follows employment/tax laws properly, I would go somewhere else. Luckily, all the drivers are wonderful and love helping children and families which means service to these families was not impacted by the chaos corporate caused the drivers. read more

Joe Stevenson and Yolanda Stevenson and their drivers are unreliable, untrustworthy, and rude. They like to bait and switch: get you to sign their agreement, pay a registration fee, and then change their prices without adequate notification. Three different times (that I know of), they have left my children on the curb and not waited or made sure my kids entered the home safely. The Taximom app is glitchy, inaccurate, and unreliable. I found this service over the summer when I was in desperate need of help with my child's summer camp and needless to say we signed on for the year! The owner has been nothing but kind and helpful.
