Some examples include ITIN, K1's from syndicates , alternate investments , FBAR (india income), Gift taxes and many more. You can throw any complex investment or gain/loss and they will do the right thing and take care of it appropriately. They are very responsive via email and are also really excellent at following up with IRS directly incase any issue arises. Negative stars. They never call back or respond. No response to emails. No voicemail response. Not just responsiveness, overall their work is also poor. Repeatedly asking for same docs, no follow through etc. Go somewhere else if you would like to avoid a headache. Taxes are stressful as is. These guys add onto it. read more

Worth giving a negative star rating, but yelp doesn't support that feature yet. I have been using Tax Vista for the past 7 years, despite the hiccups over the years of randomly increasing the quote late in the tax season, missing information in tax filings etc I had some stock options and AMT to be reported in my 2017 tax returns, and they seem to have miscalculated the amount that I owed, which was caught when they were filing my 2018 tax returns and offered to file an amendment. A month after the amendment was filed, I got a letter from IRS to pay a tax penalty of a few thousand dollars for the taxes that I had owed, which was miscalculated and amended recently and was given two weeks to pay it or risk having to pay interest on it. I had contacted Anand regarding the issue as I was totally caught off-guard, as they had not informed me that I will have to pay a penalty or interest on the taxes that I owed. Anand took no responsibility on this matter and blamed it on the fact that I wasn't able to provide some documents which led to the miscalculations to begin with. I had pointed out that I had no prior experience filing taxes where I had to report stock options, and it was their responsibility to have stated all the required documents that were required and if it was that trivial, I would have used tax filing tools to file the taxes myself. They lacked professional understanding of AMT deductions, difference in stock option types etc which apparently led to the scenario which they were able to spot while filing 2018 tax returns without the aforementioned missing documents(so the fact that it was the missing documents that was responsible for us landing in this scenario is moot as they were able to deduce the difference in amount owed regardless, the next year) Spot checking a complicated tax return is only as simple as looking for a needle in a haystack and they expected me to have caught the discrepancy the previous year, before the returns were filed. The recommendation given was that I appeal to IRS to have the tax penalty waived, on the grounds that it was the first time such an event has occurred and circumstances were beyond my control, I had to pay the tax penalty to avoid any further penalties and appealed to IRS, which was declined without any reason. I had paid close to $1000 for tax filing for that year, and the service didn't live up to the cost nor was the scenario handled in a professional manner and I could not recuperate the loses. If your tax returns are simple, please do yourself a favor and use a tax filing tool and file it yourself, to save money. If you had passive income, stock options, RSUs, rental properties, etc, find a real tax service/accountant to save yourself from all the hassle. read more

Anand & his team does a great job in filing taxes each year. Their prices are highly competitive with others in the market. One thing I noticed is, once you schedule an appointment they are very prompt on it and will work on your case right away. The number they have on the profile does not work and it does not have a voice. There is no way to contact them other than Email. You have to always email them and wait for them to get back to you and it's usually a couple of days. Never on time with their appointments. Initially, I went with them because they were offering competitive prices but these days they are charging quite a lot for taxes and they don't have enough knowledge of taxes and I have to Google and tell them what forms to file. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

On the phone, I was promised a refund estimation before having to pay for the filing. After sending the W2 and all related forms online, I was told to pay the preparation and filing fees via a link. I asked them to give me the refund estimation first. I got a reply saying that they do not do estimation. This was a waste of my time, and a clear misrepresentation to the customer. I hope they don't do this with others. read more

Tax Vista is pretty reasonable and competent enough to handle India as well as US Tax reporting. This is my second year of doing business with Anand and his team, and by far it has been a smooth and easy process to file my taxes with them. I'm giving a 4 star because the first year experience was not that great. May be in the first year when my account was created new the amount of information required caused more back and forth. Update: Recently I filed my 2017 tax returns with Tax Vista help. It has been 4 happy years so far. As always the team is very patient and polite to answer all the questions. I called this place as I wanted help with declaring my foreign accounts and I was surprised I knew more than what they knew about streamlined and OVDI procedures.
