I put this place on my list about 18 months ago and finally got there. I have been to Tay's Burger Shack a few times, so I know that Tay is very familiar with what it takes to be excellent. Tay's Cheesesteak solidified that. This is the best cheesesteak I've had outside of Philly. It's better than Pat's or Geno's. The only one that beats it is Dalessandro's in Philly. Seriously legit steak. I LOVE that Tay is committed to grass fed beef! That's all we buy at home. Amoroso's bread is what all the greats use. If you go somewhere for a Philly and they don't use Amoroso's bread, leave. Go to a real joint. Like Tay's. Wow!! What a great treasure for KC! The staff is very cool, kind and helpful. They gave me time to make my way through the menu and ask questions. Diners are encouraged to ask for exactly what they want on their sandwich, even if it's not listed. I love the pepperoncini sauce, which I've never seen anywhere else. What a nice balance for the peppery meat and the salty cheese. My sandwich was made after I ordered it and served so hot I had to wait 2-3 minutes before I could pick it up and another couple minutes before I got a real decent bite. Love that. HOT food is rare these days. I appreciate it so much. What a real gem of a restaurant. I'm not gonna shut up about it. My friends have already been warned. We're going again. A lot.

I ordered this through DoorDash the other day because I was craving a great cheesesteak. This came with great reviews so I thought I'd give it a shot and I have to say, holy crap this cheesesteak was delicious! I love the different varieties they have and the fact that they let you customize what you want inside. I ended up going with the Tay's with added jalapenos and a side of their pepperoncini sauce - do not skip this sauce! It was phenomenal and I'm already craving it again! The fries were not bad, the spice had a flavor that I couldn't put my finger on, but overall I honestly couldn't stop eating them. I'll definitely be ordering again in the near future!

I've been digging on Tay's burger shack for years. Now it was time to try their cheesesteaks. Which they knocked out of the park. Came here right before closing time on a Monday, the guy behind the counter was cool and told me to take my time. I had the entire place to myself, which was nice. The tay's cheesesteak and fries were soooo good. I look forward to coming back and trying their large selection of sandwiches.

I was on the hunt for the best cheesesteaks in Kansas City, and Tay's kept popping up, so I had to give it a try. I stopped by around 7:30 on a Thursday evening, and it was surprisingly quiet--maybe it gets busier earlier in the day? I ordered two cheesesteaks to-go: the Travolta and the Effin'. Service was quick--my order was ready in under 10 minutes. The Travolta was a standout! The cream cheese sounded like a strange addition at first, but it blended so well with the flavors. The sandwich was loaded with meat, and the roll was super soft and flavorful, which really brought it all together. As for the Effin' cheesesteak, fair warning: it's seriously spicy. I love spicy food, but this was on a whole different level. It was a bit too much heat for me to enjoy fully, so I'd probably pick a different one next time. All in all, Tay's has definitely earned a return visit from me. The quality and flavors live up to the hype!

The cheese steak is amazing! Highly satisfied with we were immediately greeted with an engaged employee who was cleaning greeted us immediately and so engaged. The service was excellent and the Ambiance is a classic urban sidewall sandwich shop.

We stopped here to have dinner and it didn't disappoint! I tried the cheesy and it had cheese whiz on it. I was a little skeptical but I almost couldn't put it down!

Their cheesesteaks are amazing!! I accidentally ordered the tays cheesy 8" but just wanted it with American cheese. I hate cheese wiz but it was somehow still delicious. The service was great and didn't wait long at all for it to be made. The restaurant has a lot of tables and seating but was very hot inside. I took it home to eat there.

Lively, popular, and pretty new age. If you're looking for a cheese steak that Guy Fieri is going to drool over and have dreams of...this isn't your cheesesteak, but it's not too bad at all. The price is good, the value for your money is definitely there and the food comes out HOT, like steam as you bite into it hot. Service is quick, you fill your own drinks and grab your own sauces and food is brought out to you fast. Really the only thing that can't quite get it that 5th star is just flavor, without cheese or any sauce the meat would be pretty bland.

I walked in cause i knew their fries are awesome and thier sandwich did not disappoint! I love Tay's burger shack and I wanted to try their other restaurant that's a few blocks away. I ordered the 8 inch Tay's: Steak, bell peppers, onions, & cheese. You order at the counter and it's brought to your table. I sat inside, but there are patio tables ( outside ) as well. I always start with how the food is served before I add anything. After 2 bites ( which were good ) I drizzled a half laddle of Au Jus over the sandwich. The au jus elevated the flavor and it was Fantastic. There is a sauce table with lots of options for in house dinners and take out. I assume it's complementary as i just helped myself. Tay's is so yummy! The cheesesteaks are huge and so tasty. You can get a variety of toppings and cheeses. The fries are amazing. Love the hot au jus for the sandwich. I was craving a cheesesteak tonight and decided to try this place out. For almost a $30 (12 inch original double meat no onions in a bowl) I placed an order online and came to pick it up 10 minutes later. I walked in, looked around and saw only one diner inside. I walked over to the counter and stated I placed a mobile order under my name and was handed my bag. I said thank you and left. When I arrived home less than 10 minutes later, I opened the bag and was disappointed. It looked reheated. The meat was dry, overcooked, and was in chunks instead of thinly sliced. There were also onion and pepper pieces I picked out. I was so disappointed, I couldn't eat it. I definitely do not recommend. read more

Went here for the first time on Saturday and it was delicious!! I love Tay's Burgers and finally made my way over. I got the Travolta Cheesesteak which has cream cheese... changed my life. The service was great and I had multiple people come up to me to check on me since I told them it was my first time. There are plenty of tables and will be back! read more

I don't typically consider cheesesteak sandwiches when I go out to eat, but when my friend took me here to Tay's Cheesesteak Restaurant all my thinking on that changed. These cheesesteak sandwiches are delicious! Service is good in that the food is served within minutes ad the ambiance is North Kansas City typical. Very nice!! Go ahead, give it a try. I really wanted to love this place after reading the reviews. I ordered the cheesy cheesesteak. The meat itself was too dry and too salty. I love salt but this was too much! And all of the fries were like 2 to 2.5 inches long. Very strange. And the place was just dirty. Best part is the friendly employees and their good service. Not sure if I would go there again. read more

I'm a huge fan of Tay's Burgers, but this sister restaurant needs some lessons on sanitation. Hair in my food. The staff all had long, unkempt hair...not nets or hats because they say the health department "doesn't require it." No offer for a refund, just re-made my order. If the cook can wear headphones, why no protection?!?! read more

Tay's was really good! The Cheesesteak fries were my favorite! My husband liked the Reuben and the pastrami was good too! The pastrami was a little different than I have had before, since it was on rye with cheese, but I liked the au jus with it. Great place with great food and great attentive staff. Tay's does cheesesteaks just as well as they do burgers! Limited menu (similar to the burger shack) but everything is done right. Solid inside space and extreme friendly staff. The standard "Tay's Cheesesteak" is about as good as it gets when it comes to cheesesteaks! I didn't try any sides this time but I loved the different dips they offered as well. Go Tay's! read more

Had high hopes for this place based on their burger spot. 12 inch cheesesteak Fries No drink $29 and change. Their burger joint is high too but weight wise I feel you get more beef for your buck there. I can get all this x2 at Chartreuse for the same price. I dont care if this is grass fed golden magic cows we are talking here. Its too high. This really sucks cause I love the sriracha ketch and mayo on those fries. These prices are just outrageous. Nice stuff and very fun decor (as a Jersey girl I particularly loved the NJ license plate light fixtures ) My only feedback would be to upgrade the cups from styrofoam to paper. Heck even plastic would be better. I'll bring my own water bottle next time. read more

I love a cheese steak. And Tay's is EXACTLY what I am looking for! Hot, melty, cheesy, messy! MMM! I went to Tay's for lunch and it was great! A bit of a line when I walked in but it moved at a reasonable pace. I order the Steak Travolta. Only waited a few minutes, 5 max. And the line had gotten even longer behind me. Popular place! 30.00 dollars for a 12" with American and Cheez Whiz, fountain drink and FF with a 15% tip. No thanks. It was just ok. For the price I felt there was little value. I'm not going back but if I did I would get the 8" for 11.00. Service was friendly though I have never had a Cheese Steak sandwich in Philadelphia so I am no expert but on its own without context it was akin to a ground up smash burger (without the bun) shoved into a roll with cheez whiz on top. Ambiance is not worth mentioning because this isn't a place you would typically judge based on decor. The "dumbfuckery stops here" gave me a chuckle as did someone writing "hot sause" on a box. read more

I split an 8-inch "Effing Hot" cheesesteak and a Reuben with my husband. Both had outstanding flavor. The Reuben did seem a little skimpy on the corned beef but the taste and quality were so good, it hardly mattered. The cheesesteak was packed with beef and deliciously spicy. Of course, we also ordered fries because Tay's fries are not to be missed. Real. Thin. Crispy. And so good. Now about the price. Our daughter was with us so we bought 3 sandwiches (2 8-inch cheesesteaks & the Reuben) + 3 fries and 3 drinks. The total was about $48. Now, I'm no Rockefeller but $16 per meal for this quality seems fine to me. A McDonald's Quarter Pounder meal is $10 now and is engineered out the wazoo. Tay's serves real food that is worth the extra money. The service was good despite being obviously shorthanded. The ambiance is nothing special but the food is the star and the only decoration the place needs. read more

We have eaten at Tay's Burger Shack (just down the street) and loved it every time ! Then we discovered Tay's Cheesesteak, and WOW, it's incredible good also ! The Cheesesteak sandwich with Cream Cheese was excellent ! The employees were very kind & friendly, which was much appreciated. Also, the french fries are really good ! This place is incredible! The best cheesteak I've had. The owner really is passionate about his product. The grass-fed meat is well marinated and it literally melts in your mouth. He goes out of his way to get the best quality ingredients around. The bread is warm and super soft too. We are addicted! Try the Travolta its delicious. I got the Tay's Beef cheesesteak and added hot peppers. It was VERY good and spicy. The spicy ketchup on the seasoned fries was a great side. I tried the Tay's Orange drink and thought it was weak and almost tasteless. read more
